Australia all out 258.. well done to South Africa for giving us a fight and to Makaya Ntini for getting 5 wickets..

Lets hope the contest continues to fester of the next 4 days..

If we are all out for 258, no reason SA won't be there abouts the same with our attack

After the first day's play over, it is pretty easy to come up with that assessment

Again, if we can be bowled out for 258, our attack is more than capable of doing the same today. To beat Australia, your going to have get us out cheaply twice (rarely happens) so there is a long way to go in this test match - a solid batting performance here today could be pivotal, Graeme Smith is the key wicket.

One question I pose to Australian fans, is this the end of Andrew Symonds as a Test cricketer?

IMO it is. He looked out of his depth in the middle yet again yesterday and I think Michael Clarke will come back into the side at 5 or 6. Symonds has not made the most of his opportunity with Watson injured and Clarke dropped - it is as simple as that. The only thing that may save him is the selectors chasing the one spectacular innings from him that will be a 'told you I belong here' type knock.

Well I am kind of eating humble pie at the moment. SAF are 2/127 with one over until lunch and are looking good. Anyone else surprised?

Lee & Warne are leading an Aussie fightback with the Proteas now being 4/147.

We fought back well headed by a long, long spell from Shane Warne and Brett Lee.Our fielding was a feature as well.

This is SA's best chance of beating us and they have performed brilliantly especially in the last session today with Boucher and Pollock putting together a great partnership.

I still think we have their measure when it's all said and done

Fantastic effort by Warne to break Lillee's record & we finally have a true test match with South Africa having a 38 run 1st innings lead.

Ah Kimmeh.. don't worry I am sure Symonds is headed out of the side if he doesn't perform in the 2nd innings.. Clarke will be recalled for sure for Melbourne IMO..

I have to ask about Hayden.. what is going on.. did he have a brain explosion or something.. he got out playing the exact same stroke in 2 innings.. surely after the first he would have learnt..
