Schoolboys get a dose of Titans' excellence
QUEENSLAND are hoping a secret training session at the Gold Coast Titans' Centre of Excellence will give them the edge when they run out for the semi-finals of the Australian Schoolboys Rugby League Championships at Pizzey Park, Miami, today.
The Maroons will fight for survival against NSW Combined Catholic Colleges, who yesterday lost to NSW Combined High Schools 28-26.
With a day off yesterday, Queensland prepared at the brand new Titans facility at Robina.
"It has been a great benefit to us," said Queensland coach Geoff Bagnall. "A bit of local help from the Titans has been great."
The defending champions, Queensland lost to NSWCCC 28-22 on Sunday before bouncing back against NSWCHS 28-16 on Monday.
"We have obviously been beaten by the Catholic Colleges, so we have got everything to play for," said Bagnall.
"If we beat them this time we go straight into the final, otherwise we are out.
"They have got a few good players that we need to watch. But we need to concentrate on our own game more than anything and make sure our defence is good.
"We have to move up and match it with them in the middle. They might be slightly bigger but we have to get up off our line and harass them."
In Group 2 yesterday, Combined Affiliated States beat NSW Independent Schools 36-16.
Today's games at Pizzey Park:
10am: VIC v SA;
11.15am: WA v NT;
1pm - semi-final: NSW CHS v ACT;
2.30pm - Semi-final: Queensland v NSW CCC.
