Warning this preview originated from Manly Sea Eagles official website.

Toyota Cup match preview - Sea Eagles vs Titans
    Scott Bailey

The Sea Eagles have a chance to put themselves on the top of the Toyota Cup ladder when they take on the Gold Coast Titans on Friday night.

After enjoying a week off due to Sydney’s big wet, the Sea Eagles will be looking to capitalise on the Cowboys second successive loss when they travel up north for the clash against the 13th placed team.

While the Cowboys still sit on equal points with the Eagles, Manly have only a slightly worse for and against, and with that game against the Broncos still in hand, are ready to take top spot.

However, the Titans will be no easy task, despite their low spot on the ladder, they have won two of their last three matches, with their only recent loss being a close one to the Roosters.

The attacking problems which seemed to ruin their early season appear to be gone, with the Coast having no problems in racking up 30 points in each of their last three games, and a half century alone last weekend.

The Sea Eagles meanwhile, are beginning to become victims of their own success. While Hopoate and Whare have made brilliant first grade debuts in the past few weeks, it has left the Toyota Cup squad without some of their key players.

This, coupled with the suspensions of key players in Davey, Bennett, Portlock and Tasi, will make the match much harder than the ladder and 50-6 flogging just two months ago would suggest.

The Titans can put much of their recent form down to one man, halfback Cody Walker, who has scored an amazing seven tries in his last three games.

Walker was unstoppable last week against the Raiders, setting up three tries to go along with the hat trick he scored himself.

The youngster has been a revelation for the Titans in his first season in the Toyota Cup, and now that he is beginning to find his feet, the pressure will be on the Sea Eagles to shut him down.

Given this, the Manly defence will need to be quick to rush up onto him with ball in hand, in order to limit the time he has to set up, or score his own tries for the Titans.

Meanwhile, the Sea Eagles will be looking to their own half in Garry Riccardi to create their point scoring opportunities, something he has done at will so far in 2010.

Riccardi has consistently been behind the big scores the Sea Eagles have been positing, however his abilities will be further tested this week given he will be without so many of his regular outside backs.

The key for the Sea Eagles will be as to whether Riccardi can adapt to work with these more inexperienced Manly players in order to post a score big enough to defeat the Titans.

Despite the Titans lowly position on the ladder, and the fact they have only defeated the Sea Eagles once in five attempts, this match will not be as clear cut as it first looks.

Kick-off is at 5pm, in what could prove to be a defining match in the Sea Eagles season, as they look to claim top place for the first time on the Toyota Cup ladder.
