    Default Souths bid now official

    Source: www.foxsports.com.au
RUSSELL Crowe and Peter Holmes a Court's bid for South Sydney is now officially in the hands of the Rabbitohs board.

Holmes a Court yesterday sent the pair's formal proposal for control of the foundation club to Souths chairman Nick Pappas.

Souths' nine-member board is expected to digest the $3million offer over the next fortnight.

The board will then decide whether to recommend selling Crowe and Holmes a Court a 75 per cent share in the club.

Holmes a Court told The Saturday Daily Telegraph the proposal had been "slightly altered to address concerns of Rabbitohs fans".

At a fans' forum on Monday night at Souths Juniors, the millionaire businessman was repeatedly quizzed upon safeguards to prevent future sale to a hostile buyer.

In response, the model now includes a right for members to veto any sale not deemed in the best interests of the football club.

Holmes a Court will again be present at the Juniors on Monday night - this time in company with Crowe who is doing a one-off show at the club.

All money raised from the performance will be donated to the pair's "Young Bucks" program, which promotes the district's junior talent.

Meanwhile, a meeting between Rabbitohs patriarch George Piggins and tennis great John Alexander over the future of South Sydney Leagues club has been postponed.

The pair were scheduled to meet yesterday or Thursday to discuss Alexander's $10m plan to convert the club's building into a gym and fitness complex. But Piggins said Alexander needed more time to finalise his offer.

"It does take a little while to get all these things together," he said.

    * JUST days after being turned down by retired Sydney Roosters captain Luke Ricketson, English Super League club Castleford have acquired one of his former teammates, powerful back-rower Richard Fa'aoso.

The Tongan international was released from the final year of his NRL contract with the Roosters to take up a two-year deal with the newly-promoted Tigers.

Fa'aoso is the latest in what has become a flood of forward departures from Bondi Junction, following the off-season loss of front rowers Jason Cayless (Wigan), Ned Catic (Wakefield), Ben Hannant (Brisbane) and back-rowers Michael Crocker (Melbourne) and Ricketson.

The losses have been offset by the arrival of lock Ashley Harrison from neighbours Souths and the addition of Charlie Tonga (Bulldogs), Glenn Hall (Souths) and Mark Edmondson (St Helens) to the front-row ranks.

Well I cannot see anythink wrong with Russel Crow wanting to buy the club although, It does go to show that some people have too much money and don't know what to do with it. As long as the pay phones are secuerly bolted to the walls, The souths leagues club should be a safe place
