    Default Titans Elite Academy success

    Titans Elite Academy success.

Plans for the second Titans Elite Academy camp are well under way following the success of the inaugural gathering. The group of 27 players aged 16-18 will meet again under the watchful eye of Head Coach John Cartwright towards the end of January.

The next camp will build on the momentum of the first, gathering and may include an overnight stay. This will allow for more time to assess individual players and their skills in their current positions.

Titans Football Manager Scott Sattler said the tests and screens the Academy squad went through in the first training will be repeated.
?We tested the boys so we could establish where they were at physically,? Sattler said.

?We?ve formulated programs to cater for their individual strengths and weaknesses and the players will be expected to work on these programs over the next few weeks. At the next camp we will test them again to measure the difference and we?ll also be working more closely with each player.?

Sattler said the contracted players hailed from all over the region including Northern NSW, the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
?There are players at clubs which are spread all over the place, but they?re home grown and we?ll do whatever we can to give them a chance,? he said.

Both Sattler and Cartwright were impressed with the talent and expect them to step up physically over the next few months.

?They all worked hard at the first session and a lot of the players have raw talent,? Sattler said.

?It?s very promising to see them have the same ability as the elite juniors in top clubs in Sydney; they just need to work to improving their physical strength. Over the next two to three months we will be testing them physically and mentally to see how they can cope against Sydney players and we?ll get them up to that standard.?

Looks like the Academy camp was a great success.

I particularly love stories about the juniors coming through and find it nearly as interesting as news about which NRL players we might sign.

Once our team takes to the field the young blokes certainly won't let down the senior players.

The titans Certainly are not doing anything wrong. From the success of the inagural signings and now the success of the training camps, I am confident in supporting an awsome team when they take the field in 2007.

The Titans Elite Academy is the most exciting initiative that has come up since we got the green light from David Gallop and the NRL back in May 2005 - spending the time, effort and money developing the best junior talent on offer for the Titans will see maybe *3 to 5 of these young kids go through to first grade and potentially be hous hold names. If your not excited by that as a rugby league fan of the Titans, your a hard sell.

What I would give to be at that age again with the opportunity to be apart of this exciting initiative - good luck to all the young men who have been lucky enough to get this opportunity. One tip: make the most of it - the parties and women will come later, put your head down, a$$ up and set your goals high! The rewards are there if your prepared to work hard for it and remember, "success isn't final, failure isn't fatal".

    Good luck to all involved.

    * I am not selling the talent of these youngsters short - more putting a realistic goal in place with the potential to over achieve

This is a fantastic initiative as it gives the local juniors a visible pathway to the NRL. The other benefit it does give is that it encourages the players who may not be quiet good enough for the NRL, but still good enough to attend the sessions. Will benefit the QLD cup and footy in the bush as a whole.

This was the sqaud a few months ago:

Brodie Williams, Tom Kingston, Mitch Hayden, Michael Keating (all Seagulls), Ryan Simpkins (Tugun), Shannon Walker, Michael Walker, Harry Witt, Damien Buckley, James Rix, Will Matthews, Cameron Gibson, Luke Bartlett, Dennis Gordon (Northern Rivers and Grafton), Luke Krauss, Luke Dumas, Travis Drought, Kevin Pease, Chris Sandow and Todd Brennen

The final squad had 27....so there is a few missing from the above.

There are some very good players in that squad from what I have read up on the QRL website.. and the Titans are once again doing the right thing and showing the rest of the NRL the way..

I really am looking forward to seeing some of these players become household names in the future, as Deegan has said, there is a real chance that having locals in the side will increase the support for the club and these players will be able to be one club players hopefully who will create the aura that the Titans will be known for in years to come.

Once again another very superb initative from the Titans and once again looks like 2007 will be the year this team shows the rest of the NRL what it is made of..
