Titans juniors score double

The Jetstar Gold Coast Titans' junior representative sides have moved into the top-four on the ladder after registering wins over Redcliffe in the Mal Meninga and Cyril Connell Cup competitions on Saturday night.

At a packed Bycroft Oval on Saturday night, the Titans' Under-18s finally hit their straps in the Mal Meninga Cup, scoring a 42-10 win over a determined Redcliffe Dolphins outfit.

The win takes the Titans to third spot on the competition ladder as they head into next weeks clash at Parkwood against struggling cellar dwellers the Ipswich Diggers. Kick off is 5pm.

Having watched the other Gold Coast team the Vikings destroy the Ipswich Diggers in the first game of a double header at the Bay, the large local crowd settled in to see what the Titans could offer and were not disappointed as the Titans gained and held the momentum.

"We know we have a strong, fit, mobile side and it was pleasing to see the cohesion we practise at training start to show on the field." said coach Jaime O'Connor.

"In the last few games we have been good in patches but today we reduced the unforced errors and kept the momentum going for most of the game. We still have areas to improve but we are heading in the right direction as a unit.''

In the Cyrill Connell Cup clash, the Titans Under-16s held off a gritty Redcliffe side to record a 20-18 victory in a tight, see-sawing encounter.

Controlling the game for large periods of time, Under-16s deserved to win but a series of unforced errors allowed the Dolphins a sniff of the points.

"We showed glimpses of what we are capable of tonight but just need to respect the pill more,'' said coach Aaoron Zimmerle.

"Redcliffe are a tough side who scramble well and will punish you if you let them in and our pushed passes and poor execution allowed them to score cheap points."

Both Titans sides looked well coached and as the season progresses will only improve as the boys forge combinations and cohesion in the run up to the finals
.
The win takes the Under 16s to fourth spot on the ladder ahead of next weeks round 5 clash with the Diggers.
