Default Catch the Pacific Cup live on NRL.com, highlights on NINE

Catch the Pacific Cup live on NRL.com

The SP Brewery Pacific Cup is set to attract unprecedented radio and television audiences for a Pacific Nations Rugby League tournament with coverage into the UK, Australia and throughout the Pacific.

The Pacific Cup will also be broadcast live on internet platforms within Australia from www.NRL.com with Telstra BigPond today confirming it will cover all four tournament matches at Lloyd Robson Oval, Port Moresby.

Fans in Australia keen to tune in to the action can do so through the Nine Network, which will broadcast a one-hour package of each weekend’s matches on Sunday November 1 and November 8 at midday.

The coverage will extend to British audiences through BSkyB’s Sky Sports in November.

Papua New Guinea’s eminent radio broadcaster FM100 will distribute coverage throughout PNG and the Pacific Islands.

FM100 will also conduct a live broadcast of this Saturday’s qualifying match between Samoa and Cook Islands at Barlow Park in Cairns, which is set to attract up to 7,000 local fans.

In Papua New Guinea long time league broadcaster EM TV will deliver the coverage terrestrially to more than half of the people of PNG.

Fiji TV will broadcast the games in Fiji on its free to air service Fiji One and on its Sky Pacific platform to the rest of the Pacific Region, while arrangements are being made for terrestrial coverage in other Pacific Island nations.

RLIF Chairman Mr. Colin Love AM said:

“The Pacific nations play an exhilarating brand of Rugby League which television audiences around the world are really going to enjoy.

“It’s very encouraging for the tournament to have received such solid support from our broadcast partners.

“I know that a lot of fans around the world who were pleasantly surprised by how well these nations performed during the World Cup will be looking forward to seeing these matches.”

The four SP Brewery Pacific Cup matches will be held at Lloyd Robson Oval over the weekends of October 24-25 and October 31, with the final to be played on Sunday 1 November.

Competing nations are hosts Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Tonga and either Samoa or Cook Islands, who play in Cairns this Saturday in a tournament qualifier at Barlow Park (winner to progress to tournament).

Bloody brilliant. Now I have the 4Nations and Pacific Cup to tide me over.

This is exactly what rugby league needs to do to grow the international game.
