The Papua New Guinea Rugby League has made a formal submission to play in the 2010 Queensland Cup as a stepping stone to an NRL franchise.
The submission will go before a QRL Board meeting on Friday with managing director Ross Livermore indicating his directors were not opposed to expanding the competition to 13 teams.
"The PNG proposal is comprehensive and we will certainly give it serious consideration," Livermore said.
"If they were to be admitted they would have to meet their own travel costs and the costs of visiting teams.
"The PNG Government is helping fund the NRL bid so hopefully that will not be a problem."
