I think this will be a good game, two teams in the top 8 and Newcastle have a crack at the top 4 which will make them more desperate for a win. At home i rekon Manly will be too good and keep up their recent winning ways

Spot - and dot - the difference: Knights to wear one-off jersey

IT WON'T take long for hardened Newcastle supporters to spot the difference when their team takes the field against Melbourne on August 17 for the NRL's Close the Gap round.

This striking new jersey, designed by NAIDOC Aboriginal Artist of the year Les Elvin, is a symbol of the contribution indigenous players have made to the club in its short history. All NRL clubs will recognise the need for awareness of Aboriginal health issues in Close the Gap round from August 14-17, but the Knights have gone that extra yard by redesigning their jersey for the event.

Knights chief executive Steve Burraston said it was also a symbol of the commitment the club has made, and will make, to nurturing Aboriginal talent in the Hunter region.

A former Knights indigenous player and member of the 1997 premiership-winning side Brett Grogan said indigenous players needed to feel comfortable in their surrounds to succeed at NRL clubs.

"We've already spoken about establishing an indigenous working committee to initiate mentoring and development programs for Koori youths so we look forward to progressing," Grogan said.

Elvin, a former Cessnock Goannas winger and Knights fan, said the painting represents the landmarks of Newcastle and indigenous people making their way to Newcastle for the event.

The Knights will launch festivities for Close the Gap round with a family fun day on August 11 and a gala evening at Wests Leagues Club in Newcastle on August 14 before the Monday night game on August 17. Close the Gap seeks to raise awareness and close the 17-year gap between the indigenous and non-indigenous life expectancy in Australia.

Here they come alright, that was a great performance by them. What annoyed me was how the commentator said, "look out Dragons, Dogs and Storm, theres another player at the table." What about the Titans for god sake! We are 3rd for a reason, coz we are contenders!!!!
