    Default Round 3 Preview

    Hyundai A-League Round 3 Preview

It?s Round 3 of the Hyundai A-League already. Last week saw another milestone reached with Carlos Hernandez scoring the 1000th Hyundai A-League goal. This week crowd numbers will reach 5,000,000 for all-time Hyundai A-League attendance. To celebrate this milestone Football Federation Australia (FFA) is giving the 5,000,000th Hyundai A-league attendee tickets for 2 to catch the Qantas Socceroos take on Oman in their must-win AFC Asian Cup qualifier at Etihad Stadium on 14 October.

This is the Official Preview for the Hyundai A-League Round 3. Please note squads are subject to change.

    Stats, Facts & Milestones

As a relatively new competition, building from the ground up, 5 million spectators in less than five years is a cause for celebration.

The 12,161st spectator to make it to match day in Round 3 is all it will take to record the 5,000,000th attendee to the Hyundai A-League. 4,987,839 fans have already attended a Hyundai A-League fixture to date and the 5,000,000 mark will be eclipsed this coming weekend.

With 34 goals in just 2 rounds, including another milestone with Carlos Hernandez scoring the Hyundai A-League?s 1000th goal, the Hyundai A-League will heat up even further in Round 3 with Perth Glory to host their first home match versus Newcastle Jets, Wellington Phoenix crossing the Tasman to face the Brisbane Roar, the Hyundai A-League's best credentialled team, Adelaide United, taking on league leaders Gold Coast United and Sydney heading to Gosford to face the Mariners.

    Simon Hill's round 3 preview:

Fox Sports football commentator Simon Hill runs the rule through round three of the A-League, which includes an exciting derby between Central Coast Mariners and Sydney FC.

Adelaide v Gold Coast, Hindmarsh Stadium, 8pm (EST), Friday

Simon says: "The so-called clash of styles! I don’t know what Aurelio Vidmar has done to upset people because everybody seems to be having a pop at them. I think that’s a bit unfair! But having said all that, I do think the Gold Coast will win. They are terrific going forward and at the moment they are holding up defensively. I think Bas Van den Brink has been a super purchase for them and they’ll have just a little bit too much up front for the home side. The problem the Reds have got is they can’t score. In fact, I was looking back through the A-League records and found that their top scorer in any one season is Cristiano in 2008-09 with eight. They need to find a 10-15 goal a season man, and with Lloyd Owusu still injured, I’m not sure they’ve got one."

Mariners v Sydney, Bluetongue Stadium, 3pm (EST), Saturday

Simon says: "I’ve got egg all over my face so far for tipping the Mariners to run last – but it’s early days. I like the look of Sydney – they’re not as spectacular as some would have had us believe – but they’re obviously still a work in progress. I think the two teams are evenly matched given the Mariners are playing at home and I can see this one ending up in a draw, to be honest."

North Queensland v Melbourne, Dairy Farmers Stadium, 5pm (EST), Saturday

Simon says: "You’ve got to go for Melbourne here. I thought they showed a lot of character last weekend against Brisbane to come from 3-1 down and they’ve still got a lot of quality in the squad even without Kevin Muscat. Obviously Robbie Fowler may be able to exploit Muscat’s absence but I just think, man-for-man, Melbourne has got just a bit too much. The home side may desperately need the points but the visitors should be too good here."

Brisbane v Wellington, Suncorp Stadium, 3pm (EST), Sunday

Simon says: "I’m confident it’ll be a home win here. Brisbane has to win sooner or later and there’s no better time than this. They’ve got home advantage, they’re are in good form, even though they ran out of legs a bit against Melbourne, and with the likes of Sergio van Dijk, Michael Zullo, Robbie Kruse and Mitch Nicholls, they’ll have too much firepower for Wellington."

Perth v Newcastle, Members Equity Stadium, 5pm (EST), Sunday

Simon says: "I’ll going for a Perth win here. If you look at the quality of their side, at least on paper, then sooner or later they’ve got to put it together. And there were a couple of signs last weekend that they were starting to get back on the right track – it may just take a while for these teams to gel. It’s a heck of a trip for any team going over to Perth so I’m going to say the home side will get their first win of the season."

    www.foxsports.com.au

Owusu is expected to play tonight so Simon is wrong there, we will have some more firepower although it might not b til the 2nd half.

And our defence will hold up. But for how long is the question? Adelaide will need to attack to relieve their defenders every now and then.

    Cant wait!

i must admit, i actually enjoyed watching GC in the 1st half. Adelaide woke up after an hour and Owusu was a threat but credit to Smeltz..definately one of my fave players. Still dont think you will be undefeated but will be very hard to beat.

Good to see about 5 GC fans nearly as many as you get there

Dyron Daal from the Fury should have equalised in the last minute. Fury's keeper Henderson made 2 great saves to deny Thompson a hat trick and stop a 3-0 defeat.

Was at Hindmarsh tonight, what a game! Fowler scored which i was happy about seeing one of my idols but Owusu was the crowd favourite tonight! Shame were blew a 2-1 lead. Adelaide were 3-2 down and got a penalty in injury time to steal a point Vidmar....idiot! You dont take your in form striker off and consistent defender. Proved very costly
