Yea, it is a big shame. This could have been a big event for Titans fans.

Its good in one way. You know a full compliment of players will be at recovery on Sunday morning. Great oportunity to get your jerseys and cards autographed. The players are usually very relaxed at recovery.

Tweed Digs Deep For Tough Win

TWEED Heads has withstood a determined second half fightback from the Ipswich Jets to record a nail-biting 12-10 victory at the Briggs Road Complex.

The Seagulls rolled up their sleeves on a heavy track to secure their fifth successive victory and perhaps their most important win of a campaign that is looking more promising by the minute.

Despite missing a number of stars from the previous week?s win over the Central Comets, the Tweed did it well in the first half and skipped away to a 12-0 lead following tries from Luke Dumas and James Wood.

Classy five-eighth Brad Davis had the ball on a string in the opening 40 minutes.

He tormented the Jets with his brilliant kicking game. Two of his long kicks were successful 40/20s that put the Seagulls deep on the attack.

Davis also found the touch line from a drop out under his own posts with a pin-point accurate kick that floated over the head of a despairing Danny Coburn and landed inches inside the sideline.

The play resulted in a Tweed scrum feed and eased the pressure on the Tweed in the first half.

Ipswich turned over too much possession on a wet field and in the end the deficit proved too much to overcome in the second half.

However, the Jets did give the Tweed a massive scare in a thrilling finish to the willing round 15 clash.

The Jets kicked early in the tackle count throughout the second half and the Seagulls struggled to get out of their own end.

The home team had a mountain of possession and they were rewarded with a try to Luke Walker in the left corner in the 60th minute following a slick backline movement.

Jackson Nicolau nailed the difficult sideline conversion to reduce the deficit to a converted try.

The momentum was well and truly behind the Jets when Brendan Marshall was on the spot to score a try in the left corner after the Tweed failed to clean up a grubber kick from Nicolau.

A determined Marshall was able to ground the ball just inside the dead ball line after showing a great turn of foot in the slippery conditions.

Nicolau?s conversion attempt shaved the upright and left the Jets needing to score again to keep their faint finals hopes alive.

Ipswich came close on numerous occasions and were held up over the line in the 76th minute.

Tweed?s goal-line defence was first class, although the Jets were guilty of taking a number of wrong options.

Forwards Ryan Simpkins and Brock Hunter were outstanding for the Seagulls.

The Jets also had a number of standout performers but the talking point after the match was Matt Srama?s encouraging debut.

The boom 18-year-old halfback was promoted from Colts after Ian Lacey was ruled out.

Srama trained with the Queensland Cup squad all week, but he only found out that he would take the field on match eve.

The Titans contracted youngster was happy with his overall contribution.

?It?s a lot different to what I?ve played before,? he said.

?The speed is incredible but it was good to get the experience.?

Srama comes from a proud rugby league family, with his half brother Paul a former Jets coach and premiership winning player/coach with Booval Swifts.

He said he was rapt to be given a chance in the top grade.

?They?re a good club and I?ve got an opportunity, so I?m just grateful that they?ve showed faith in me,? he said.
