    IPSWICH v REDCLIFFE
Saturday, May 16 @ North Ipswich Reserve 6.30pm

THE Jets venture back to the traditional home of rugby league in Ipswich when they take on the Redcliffe Dolphins at the North Ipswich Reserve. The match will be played before the Legends of League game and a big crowd is expected to be on hand to watch the round nine clash. It?s a must-win game for the Jets, who are two wins outside the top six after their loss to Wynnum last week. Sam Tagataese has again been named on the Ipswich bench. The former Melbourne Storm utility was rusty last weekend in his first game back from injury and Jets coach Glenn Lazarus will be looking for the star Titan to make a greater impact. Ipswich has enjoyed a great run of success against the Dolphins in recent seasons. However, Redcliffe still holds a considerable advantage in the head to head battle, having won 20 of the 27 previous matches.

    Improving Jets Take Down Fins

IPSWICH returned to the scene of their 2008 grand final capitulation last night but this time the Jets emerged with the spoils of victory.

Playing their first match at the North Ipswich Reserve since their 24-18 loss to Souths Logan in last September?s premiership decider, the Jets buried any lingering demons with a comprehensive 24-6 victory over the Redcliffe Dolphins.

The Jets were rarely troubled in a clinical performance in front of more than 1500 fans at the traditional home of rugby league in Ipswich.

The Queensland Cup clash was played before a Legends of League game featuring the likes of Cliff Lyons and David Peachey.

The mercurial Lyons would have been impressed with the silky skills of Ipswich halfback Ian Lacey.

Lacey was outstanding for the Jets, who scored five tries to one in an impressive display that keeps Glenn Lazarus? outfit within striking distance of the top six.

Ipswich led 16-6 at half-time after scoring three of the first four tries of the game.

Lacey opened the scoring for the Jets when he sprinted in behind the Redcliffe defensive line to regather a well weighted chip kick to score under the posts.

The Jets skipped further in front when powerhouse back-rower Lorenzo Maafu found space on the right edge and left the Redcliffe players in his wake.

Redcliffe tightened its defence at that point and repelled a number of promising attacking raids.

The visitors were rewarded for their effort at the other end of the field when a grubber kick behind the line resulted in a try to centre Chris Fox.

But just when the Dolphins appeared to be back in the contest, disaster struck and they conceded a match-turning try on the stroke of half-time.

Redcliffe fullback Liam Georgetown spilt a towering bomb from Ipswich five-eighth Jeremy Golf and the ball trickled towards the dead ball.

That man Lacey was on the spot to dive on the ball for his second try of the game.

The conversion gave the Jets a handy 16-6 advantage at half-time.

Ipswich came out firing in the second half and was the first to cross the line through giant winger Ramon Filipine.

However, Filipine was ruled to have been held up by the Dolphins, whose loyal contingent of supporters breathed a huge sigh of relief from the grandstand.

The play mattered little though as the Jets swung the ball to the right in a movement finished by Vili Fainga?a .

The Jets added a fifth try in the closing stages through rapidly improving fullback Luke Walker.

Seventh-placed Ipswich (eight points) has now drawn to within one victory of the Dolphins (10).

Redcliffe coach Gary O?Brien will monitor the fitness of winger Mitch Rivett (ribs) in the lead up to next Saturday?s round 11 clash with Easts.

Rivett left the field midway through the second half after a heavy tackle.
