2009 NRL Trading Cards

Hi guys,

There are a few of you out there that are like me and into collecting trading cards.

On the 23rd March 2009 Select will be releasing the new set of NRL cards.

The set includes:
195 card Basic common set
195 card Holographic jersey card set; 1 card per pack
48 card Folied signature card set; 1 card per 6 packs
32 card Sketch card set; 1 card per 12 packs
16 card Superstar mascot gem card set; 1 card per 18 packs
4 card Double Trouble card set; 1 card per 216 packs

I have seen some of these cards and Select really need to do something new. Even if they just change it a little bit by retitling their sub-sets and adding new special effects. Last years sets had Gems Foil signatures and Sketch cards. The year before had Sketch and Gems.

This years set is exciting because it is a new set but it really is getting a bit stale.

They really need to include an expansion set mid-late year. To include a further 6-8 players in each team. For example Josh Graham is in his 3rd year at the club and he hasn't had his face on a card yet and I could think of at least 7 others that would deserve to be on this years cards. Surprisingly mark Minichiello is out.

Hey guys, here is a thread about this year's series of trading cards.

Picked up 4 packs today and scored only one Titan, Nathan Friend but got a Billy Slater gem card.

Who else is collecting?

My wife and I have been smashing these packs to pieces. We now have almost 2 full sets. 6 gem cards 16 Foiled signature cards and 11 Sketch cards.

This year I am going to try to get a common set signed by every player.

Tracey is more addicted than me.

We have 4 sets of the Titans common cards. We need 3 Titans jersey cards. Anthony Laffranchi Foiled signature card and Preston Campbell Sketch card.

I have got about 250 doubles of these cards. Email me your numbers in about 2 weeks and I will get them to you next game.

No Titans doubles though. I use them to get signed

Every year I get 1 set of Titans commons and a set of Titans commons signed by the 12 players. I have 3 sets of signed commons this year already and the cards have only been out 1 for week.

I managed to get 6 of the 12 Bulldogs cards signed so I will have to trade around to get the other 6 throughout the year.

If you want a set I have a mate that has a card shop at Carrara Markets that sells the set for about $35-$40.

I used to have cards from about 1976 and a set of Scanlens cards from 1977 (long gone now)

Mine weren't quite that old. Early 80s through to the 90s.
My Greg Alexander cards were my favourites, but had John Cartwright too.

Yea you would have had some sweet cards Steve. The earliest I really have in decent number is 1987.

I managed to sell the 1977 set in about 20 years ago for about $100.

If I manage to get my 2009 set fully signed, I know a guy who sold last years fully signed set for about $1800.00 so it is well worth trying to do.

I finished my 2009 Titans collection today. I have all 3 Titans foil signatures, 2 Titans Sketch cards and the Mascot Gem card of Ash Harrison. I have 6 sets of common cards (3 of the sets are signed) and 2 sets of Die Cut Jersey cards (1 set of die cuts is signed).

For those interested, there are now 140 Titans cards and 15 Tazo/Frames cards to collect from 2007-2009. I will compile a list and post it up soon.
