AUSTRALIAN production of the Hollywood blockbuster Superman Returns has injected more than $110 million into the New South Wales economy, says Deputy Premier John Watkins.

Reportedly the most expensive film ever made, Superman Returns cost more than $320 million.

And Mr Watkins said today those who bankrolled it had helped boost the the state's profile.

"Sydney is now a top tier filming location for international film makers," Mr Watkins said in a statement.

"The efficiency of our local industry is well known to the boardrooms of the financiers who bankroll these blockbusters.

"It's injected tens of millions worth of investment into the local film industry ? and that means jobs and continuing growth for this sector of the state's economy."

Filming of the Superman prequel wraps up this weekend after months of shooting at sites across the state, including Sydney's central business district, Narrabeen Beach, Tamworth, the Hunter and Belligen. "The big film makers are increasingly coming to Sydney because we've got the talent, skills, crews and supporting industry to handle the world's biggest films," Mr Watkins said.
