yeah I had a look around and the best I could find was a badly out of date 08 signings thread, oh and a Titans only thread for 09 (Zillman a very handy pick up for next year ), still its good to cast your eye over how the whole league is looking come kick off 09.

I heard the bulldogs have basicly recruited a whole new team for 09 (thank god!), if anyone know's the full movements it would be interesting to see. The Eels from what I know may be in for a long season next year after a rather unimpressive 08 and from what I know no new signings for 09 I have a feeling I can sniff a spoon heading their way next year.

I expect another big year from the Warriors. They'll be sporting a fine 1-5 next year and I think they can man up and cover the loss of Wiki in the pack. Still mediocre halves in my opinion but that will again be negated if the forwards work to their abilities and open it up for some early ball to anyone of the fliers out wide. Might have a dabble on Manu for top try scorer. Don't forget McKinnon causing all sorts of havoc up the middle sniffing for an offload.

Warriors will have a premiership in 5 years at this rate I reckon.

Souths will also go well in 2009 I think. Wing and Sandow with an off season under their belt have the potential to be lethal. I'm predicting Isaac Luke to improve out of sight again and a return to his best from Reece Wesser. If Asotasi gets the big lads up front competing consistently it ought to be a good year for the Bunnies.

Hard to pick a spooner. Once again there are no dud rosters. It'll be another very close season with not much between 16th and 8th. But maybe Penrith just because I can see them fading out in the back end of the season seeing as it'll be the 1st full year in first grade for the majority of their squad, most of which haven't celebrated their 20th birthday yet. Civoneceva will lead them well, and they'll stand up in absense during Origin before steadily going down hill after that.

Cheers Ryan, very comprehensive list, thanks for chasing that up. I was reading the bunnies (and raiders) were being listed equal favourites for the spoon next year, I'd have to totaly disagree, not that I'm picturing them holding up the shield come October but still worth betting a couple bucks that they'll make the top 8.

looking at that list I'd also have to say the panthers are going to have to hope their under 20's can step up to first grade cause there's some real lack of depth developing.

I think they are probably right up there for depth. They've got some amazing juniors. I think what they lack is experienced players. If they keep a core group of these young ones though they have to be considered serious contenders over the coming years.

Yeah I saw a few of their under 20's step up at various times of the year, perhaps if they blood some heavily next year they may start to take shape in 2010 as a bit of a force again.

Looking at their roster though they would want to hope they get an easy time with injuries, they can barely field a decent Hooker / halves combination even with everyone fit and healthy!

    NRL

David Stagg signs two-year deal with Bulldogs
    By Peter Kogoy
December 22, 2008 FORMER Queensland State of Origin backrower David Stagg has signed a two-year deal with as a replacement for sacked Test star Reni Maitua.

Stagg is seen by new Bulldogs coach Kevin Moore as an ideal fit as the club looks to rebuild after a disastrous 2008.

He will link-up at Belmore with former Brisbane Broncos team-mates Ben Hannant and Michael Ennis.

"The club sees him as a nice fit for Maitua. He certainly fits the bill in a lot of ways. For what Todd (Greenberg) and Kevin Moore want to do at the club, he'd fit right in," Bulldogs recruitment manager Peter Mulholland said.

"Character-wise, football wise, David Stagg ticks all the right boxes. He and Kevin Moore hit it off in talks at the club last week. He has made a point of wanting to play 13 (lock) and we feel we can provide that."

The Bulldogs' image has been tarnished in recent seasons, highlighted by Sonny Bill Williams' controversial walk-out to play French rugby union and Maitua's sacking last month after an incident at a Sydney nightclub and failure to attend training the next day. Stagg met with Moore, Mulholland and club chief executive Todd Greenberg in Sydney last week to discuss his future.

Broncos chief executive Bruno Cullen recently confirmed the club would consider releasing Stagg if he wanted out.

The Broncos have signed Ben Te'o from Wests Tigers and Lagi Setu from St George Illawarra, so they have plenty of backrow depth at their disposal and Stagg's best chance of a starting spot is at Belmore.

Meanwhile, Maitua's odds of returning to the NRL next season lengthened further with word that North Queensland, despite showing interest, can't fit him under the salary cap.

Maitua is understood to have an option to continue playing football in the UK or join Williams in French rugby, but the 26-year-old's preference is stay in Australia. Cronulla and South Sydney remain his best options for an NRL return.

Well the bulldogs can add one David Stagg to their starting 13, not a bad addition for this time of year.

Well, the b'dogs are starting to look good on paper for next season. David Stagg will be a real good acquisition for them both in the forwards & the backs. They should bounce back real well next season I think, my dark horse already atm...

One interesting dynamic I can see in the bulldogs recruitment for 09 is they have dumped some of their "high maintanance rowdy players" and replaced them with a few nice clean living mature headed players for example ben hannant and david stagg. It'll be a cold day in hell before you see either of their names linked to any off field scandal and I think it is a smart move for the dogs to start bringing in players that set a good example on and off the field. Smarter recruitment then most will realise... but then again with all the coffs harbours, willie masons, sonny bills, and now reni maituas you'd be worried if they hadn't learnt from their mistakes!

very true, before Titans came along i was a dogs supporter for 25 years.
for the last 8 years i have been embarrased by them, scandals with players and then the salary cap breach, everything was going from bad to worse, now they have got rid of most of the bad elements and signed good players with good values.i totally respect what the board and coach are doing and hope to see them have a great 09.
