Whoever it is - this is devastating news!

The Broncos have generally been a club which prides itself on a good ethic I hope they finalise investigations soon ...

Come on guys, lets start throwing some names around and get the rumors rolling before the evidence comes out.

$50 there's a center involved, and an extra $100 that the low profile player(s) get sacked and the high profile player(s) get spared. Any takers?

I doubt anyone will miss Saturdays game

Perhaps its just wishful thinking but i get the vibe that its a dumb/stupid act rather than a serious crime
    At least i hope so.....

    September 16th, 2008

THE Brisbane Broncos last night confirmed police had interviewed 'some' of their players over an alleged sexual assault of a woman in a Brisbane nightclub toilet on Saturday night.

Chief executive Bruno Cullen declared the club had also launched an internal investigation into the alleged incident and would co-operate with police in an investigation which threatens to derail Brisbane's NRL premiership campaign.

The Alhambra Lounge in inner-city Fortitude Valley became a crime scene after the 24-year-old woman lodged an official complaint, alleging rape, with police yesterday.

The three allegedly engaged in oral sex with a woman in the men's toilets of the nightclub. Two of the players are alleged to have had sexual intercourse with the woman while the third recorded the acts on his mobile phone.

It is understood she first made the complaint at the weekend after speaking with friends and family before notifying police.

The woman was physically examined by police at the weekend.

Cullen confirmed his players were assisting police with their inquiries.

"The players are also co-operating fully with the police and have presented themselves for interview this afternoon," he said in a written statement last night.

Cullen said the club reacted as soon as the news broke.

"As soon as the Broncos were made aware of the allegations, an internal investigation team was formed.

"While the club has not been contacted by the police about this matter, the main focus of the internal investigation team is to co-operate fully with the Queensland Police and collectively ensure all the relevant facts are recorded."

Cullen warned the public not to get caught up in the rumour mill.

More than half a dozen Broncos players and their partners had lunch at the Story Bridge Hotel on Saturday afternoon with the majority gone by 5pm.

However, it is understood some players stayed on and enjoyed a night out in Brisbane.

The evening out also included a stint at the Normanby Hotel at Kelvin Grove.

"At this point in time there are conflicting stories, some misrepresentation of the facts in the media, and generally wide and varied views in the public arena," said Cullen.

"I can understand that, but I will not engage in speculation, only in the facts."

The Broncos were in regular contact with NRL chief executive David Gallop who has branded the issue as 'concerning' but did not wish to give widespread comment until he knew the facts of the matter.

Queensland police were officially remaining tight-lipped on the incident as they carry out their investigations.

A Queensland police spokeswoman said three men had been interviewed in relation to the incident.

Broncos players were cornered by media scrums as they left the club's Red Hill training base yesterday. Most did not comment, but Karmichael Hunt said he had been out.

Hunt, the man dubbed by Wayne Bennett as the next captain of the club, said on TV yesterday that he enjoyed a few beers with mates despite the club being in the midst of a semi-finals preparation.

"I had a few beers with a few mates," he said.

Asked if he had 'met a girl', Hunt said: "I met about 10 girls. Brisbane's got a lot of people."

NRL premiership betting is in turmoil over the allegation.

Bookmakers across the country have suspended grand final betting and all betting involving the Broncos until police complete their investigations.

Lasseters betting manager Gerard Daffy said that with the rumours floating around, all premiership betting would be suspended until investigations were completed.

"If the Broncos were to lose any players at all, particularly key players, their hopes go out the gate," he said.

"If that happened, Melbourne Storm would become flavour of the month again."

Daffy said punters would be left only with the Warriors-Roosters game to bet on this weekend.
