Default Players missing from World Cup

This Thread for any players who were likely to be playing in forthcoming Rugby League World Cup but will be missing due to injury or another reason.

I'll start by letting you know that England's World Cup hopes received a setback when Bradford's outstanding forward Sam Burgess was told he must undergo shoulder surgery which will force him to miss the tournament.

He was named young player of the year for 2007 after an outstanding first full season in Super League and made a try-scoring debut for Great Britain against New Zealand last October at the age of 18.

A real shame for Sam,i was looking for him to burst onto the world cup as a bit of an unknown to the people who dont watch SL.Still he is young and will hopefully come back stronger. His tackling style is sometimes of the SBW mould, and that will often lead to shoulder problems.

Leeds Whinos have just announced Clinton Toopi is out between 9 -12 months with serious knee ligament inujury so New Zealand will also be without him for World Cup.

It must be heartbreaking for Toopi as he only just returned after 4 months out following dislocating his shoulder.

Well after tonight's match Willie Mason will be missing the World Cup, needing a full knee reconstruction. On form shouldn't be selected though.

O'Loughlin to sit out World Cup

England have suffered another World Cup blow with the news that Wigan's Sean O'Loughlin has been ruled out after failing to overcome a shoulder injury.

The forward made an abortive comeback six weeks ago after breaking a shoulder blade in May and scans have revealed the bone has still not fully healed.

"He will not be ready for the World Cup which is another blow for England and for him," said Wigan coach Brian Noble.

England coach Tony Smith is already without Bradford prop Sam Burgess.

The Bulls teenager will miss the competition, which begins on 26 October, to undergo shoulder surgery.

O'Loughlin's injury is also a setback for Wigan ahead of the Super League play-offs.

"It's a shame for the lad but clearly he now needs to rest it for at least four weeks before he can start training again," added Noble.
