    Default Australia Travel Advice

    I come seeking advice/tips/recommendations.

Unfortunately not for me but for my brother. He will be hitting your shores for about 6 weeks from late November through to January before moving on to New Zealand.

He's seeking information and recommendations of places to visit and activities to do.

He thinks he will be going to Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney, although he is open to other places depending on whats there or things you can do.

Any information/tips would be greatly appreciated.

Go to Adelaide it is very relaxing no real hustle and bustle. Some nice beaches down there. Very flat no good for surfing

    Don't bother with Melbourne.

If he goes to Sydney. Stay in Sydney and don't venture to the suburbs. Its not worth it. If you get to Redfern you have gone too far. Sydney City, The Rocks, Sydney Harbour, Manly and Darling Harbour are the only places worth seeing.

Canberra. Its good if you are a political analyst or something

If he comes to the Gold Coast, don't bother with Surfers Paradise by night. We have the best beaches in the world and have alot to do by day like theme parks and wineries, sporting events the list goes on.

Byron Bay is a must see place and is great to see the alternate laid back lifestyle.

Great Barrier Reef, Hamilton Island and the Whitsundays are awesome.

The top end is ruggedly beautiful Darwin the Kimberlies, Alice Springs is well worth a look.

Go to Adelaide? Steer clear of Melbourne? No mention of Western Australia? Glad your not my travel agent mate.

Canberra and politicians is a myth. Unless parliament is sitting, it should be recognised for porn, explosives and pot.

definately do not miss melbourne. i live in sydney but prefer melbourne. sydney is very expensive and pretty boring unless you go into the city.. the shangri-la hotels are really good they are all over the place.

just really depends on how much money he has.

His budget will be low maybe about $100AU a day, which will likely rule out anything of the luxury of a hotel lol.

When does the AFL season kick off?

Really depends what he likes. I think leaving out the reef is crazy.
Canberra? Well I guess he can go see umm.. well.. ****ington Green?

I agree with Dee about Melbourne and Sydney. Never much liked Melbourne, and while Sydney is good to visit, only if you pretty much stick to the harbour area/beaches. Definitely worth visiting for that.

I'm told Perth is nice and there's definitely a lot of beautiful places over in WA I'd like to see, but if he's on a budget return flights would probably rule it out.

If he goes to Melbourne, Tasmania is only a short hop away, beautiful place, but again may not be for him.

Depends if he wants to go see nature, historical sites, do the touristy things or just get blotto every night like a lot of tourists.

If the $100 a day includes travel that could limit where he goes too.

If he's happy to stay in backpacker hostels the accomodation at least should be pretty cheap!

    $100 a day?

Buy Mad Max box set on DVD, he does a fair bit of traveling around Australia. Gotta be better than watching Pracilla Queen of The Desert.

I couldn't survive on $100 a day interstate, let alone overseas. I go to Sydney for State of Origin/GF and it sets me back the best part of a grand, and I only stay a day and a night.
