Friend extends Titans deal
April 22, 2008 THE Gold Coast Titans have re-signed hooker Nathan Friend for next season and are in discussions to have him remain at the club beyond 2009.
The Titans elected to take up an option in Friend's existing contract which will see the Toowoomba Junior remain in Gold Coast colours until the end of next season.
Managing director Michael Searle said the club was also looking into the possibility of extending his contract beyond 2009, with discussions continuing with his management about his long-term future on the Gold Coast.
"We're really pleased to be able to extend Nathan?s contract for next year and the fact we are negotiating beyond that highlights how much we think of him and his importance to the club," said Searle.
?He is a key member of the playing staff and a real natural leader."
Since joining the Gold Coast outfit last season after playing behind Test hooker Cameron Smith at Melbourne, Friend has become a regular in the forward pack ? playing 29 of the club?s 30 NRL games to date.
Friend said he was excited about the future of the Gold Coast club and was hopeful of remaining beyond 2009.
"I can see something building at the club and I'd love to be around for longer if we could come to an agreement," said Friend.
"It's nice to know where I stand for next year. If I can lock something in further, that would great."
