    Default Living in Canberra

I was gonna send a private message to social loafer and capital shark but i thought this would be easier able to get everyones input.

I'm more likely than not moving to canberra at the end of 2008 and i have been doing a bit of research on the suburbs and house prices and transport, things liek that, but what i really want to know is what is the best suburb in Canberra. I'm after like what thier is to do,see, hang out and being close to canberra stadium would be nice to.

My Bias opinion is that North Canberra is better, that is suburbs in Belconnen and Gungahlin.

There are quite a few houses going up in Bruce, which is the Suburb that Canberra Stadium is located..

As for stuff to do, depends what you like.. But there is enough night clubs here to keep you occupied, as well as plenty of places to have some games of pool. There is also a few Irish Pubs around the place if that's your go.

After every home match the Raiders run free shuttle buses to the Tradies club, membership to the club is only like $5 a year and you can get some reasonably priced drinks and chat with the players..

I'll write some more tomorrow, I'm pretty much out for the count at the moment.

Well i was looking at Bruce, Belconnen and Kaleen. But after doing a search every place is pretty much no more than 20mins from the city central were i will more likely than not be working and i just think that is great.

I tell you what having a look on the net, i can see why so many people are moving to canberra, looks like thier is heaps to do.

Ive only been to Canberra a couple of times and a mate of mine lived in Amaroo

It was a nice place where he was although a little out of the way

I was quite stunned when I first went there how open plan the place was

Have some great memories (mainly at the Casino!) there of Canberra and look forward to being back there soon

North Canberra mate, like SL says. South Side is like the dark side of the moon IMO. Cops the brunt of any bad weather the place gets too.

Bruce, Belconnen, Kaleen, Gungahlin is all good. I live in Belconnen, which is 5-10min from Bruce and Kaleen, and about 15min from Gungahlin. I work in the heart of the city, but the furthest section of the heart if you get my drift, and if I miss the traffic it takes me an average of 12mins to get to work, hit the guts of the traffic we're looking 20-25mins max. Your looking at the same if your coming from Bruce or Kaleen as they pretty much converge at the same inter-section to get into the City. Gungahlin now has the new multi-million dollar, 5-10years in the planning GDE (Gungahling Drive Extension) which knocks the travel time from there to the City down to the time it takes from where I am.

Coming from South Canberra you've got the Parkway which is Earth's little imitation of hell. I used to work in Erindale which is in South Canberra and even hitting the Parkway at 9:30am was still rubbish - would hate to see it at 8ish when everyone is going to work.

I don't often do public transport as I can get a lift so don't need to worry about parking in the city, but the majority of people in my department bus it from all corners of Canberra and reckon its the way to go.

At this stage i think i'll stick to the northside, not really worried about getting to work, 20-30 mi ndrive to work is nothing, it takes me that long to get to the train station here which is still a 20 min train ride from Uni, so traffic isn't a problem, i was more looking at afforadibility and things to do, but looking at it, its all very well planned and all very liveable and thus i think anywhere would be good.

Better planned than Sydney IMO. Sydney is much too cramped for my liking.
