Creagh wins Dragons player of the year
September 20, 2007
Lock Ben Creagh has claimed St George Illawarra's player of the year award following an outstanding season in which he played every NRL game.
The damaging 22-year-old forward had a superb 2007 season, culminating in selection as 18th man for NSW in the final State of Origin clash.
He also gained selection in the Australian train-on squad but minor surgery has forced him to withdraw from the running for the one-off Test with New Zealand next month.
Creagh was presented with the player of the year award at the club's presentation evening at the WIN Entertainment Centre in Wollongong.
Previous winners of the Dragons player of the year award include Mark Gasnier (2006), Jason Ryles (2006 and 2001), Luke Bailey (2005), Mathew Head (2004), Ben Hornby (2003), Shaun Timmins (2002), Trent Barrett (2000) and Jamie Ainscough (1999).
Creagh also confirmed his status as the new fan favourite, winning the Red V Members player of the year award.
Centre Matt Cooper, another of the Dragons' most consistent players in 2007, was awarded the Immortals Trophy - an award chosen by the St George Immortals in consultation with the Dragons coaching staff.
Other award winners included Beau Scott (coach's award), Chase Stanley (career development award) and Matt Prior (premier league player of the year).
