Default Crowe celebrates Souths recent form in style

    From: http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegrap...006066,00.html
Crowe is Master and Commander By Josh Massoud

SOUTH Sydney hopped off the finals roller coaster and on to Sydney Harbour in pursuit of thrills and spills yesterday.

And they weren't disappointed, with co-owner Russell Crowe treating the entire side to a jet-propelled adrenalin rush.

Currently clinging to the edge of the top eight, the Rabbitohs applied their white knuckles to the safety bars of a racy red jet boat before stepping onto a tall ship, the Svanen, for a barbecue lunch.

It certainly befitted the dizzying form of rookies Issac Luke and Eddie Paea, both of whom were gagged yesterday but greeted the ride with open-mouthed excitement.

Although the pair have played just 11 NRL games between them, they are tipped to remain in the side despite the return of experienced duo Jeremy Smith and David Peachey.

Ok now if this is how he rewards the Souths Players for winning a few games... imagine how he will treat them if they win the grand final.... I agree with someone on radio today who said that he's like the bad uncle, doesn't know when to stop giving... they are football players, not 5 year olds...

Yeah, I actually thought they were paid all that money to win games, but shows how little I know about the game.

Surely what Russell Crowe is doing by 'rewarding' the players has to be kind of against the rules... considering the players are getting extra benefits outside of the salary cap... :|

A day out and a BBQ? I'm sure most teams do similar things, its just not funded by a Hollywood star. Maybe if he brought them a car or something, but I see no problem with this. Same could be said if Ricky Stuart footed the bill for lunch and visit to the blow holes in Kiama for the Sharkies last week.

Add to the mix the Amarni suits, and plenty of other possible under the table goodies, and it might be worth a bit of an investigation IMO.

I doubt every other player from every other club has to buy their own suit and tie to sit on the sideline during suspensions and injury.

I think Crowe is a tool of the highest order, but you can't include clothing as part of the salary cap.
All players have corporate clothes that is supplied to them by the club. If you counted that you would have to count all their training wear as well..

I was a Dragonms supporter before the merger, so i lay claim to all those priemerships.

And while were on the subject, the saints won most of their titles in the 60's 70's when the competition was tough, souths won them in the early 1908 to 1950, when their was like souths, roosters and newton, and newton were always getting the spoon.

I didn't realise Bert was that old ... Or played League for that matter.

And Hoppy I'm not gonna compare eras or argue the toughness of those eras, but St George epitomized 'BUYING PREMIERSHIPS.' The Australian team just changed jumpers from gold chevrons to red V's. No matter how tough the comp, with the best players money could buy I'm sure it was made a hell of a lot easier, hence 11 trophies in a row.
