Haggerty out of Catalans fixture

Salford forward Gareth Haggerty will miss the trip to Catalans Dragons on Saturday but has been told he has not suffered a serious neck injury.

The 25-year-old hurt his neck in the Challenge Cup loss to Huddersfield and was carried off on a stretcher.

He was taken to hospital but X-rays cleared him of any serious damage.

"He's got a sore neck and won't play this weekend," said Salford football director Steve Simms. "We'll just have to wait and see with him."

It is another setback for the bottom-of-the-table Reds who have already lost Paul Highton, Ian Sibbitt, Aaron Moule and Karl Fitzpatrick to injury .

They may have to take several academy players to Perpignan this weekend.

"If we had to name a squad today, we wouldn't be able to," said Simms. "We've just got to battle on. We may have to take a few kids over with us just in case."
