I know it's early, but at this stage, who would you be picking to wear the mighty Sky Blue or that silly purply-reddy rag.

New South Wales
1. Anthony Minichello
2. Matt King
3. Timana Tahu
4. Jamie Lyon
5. Eric Grothe
6. Preston Campbell
7. Matt Orford
13. Braith Anasta
12. Nathan Hindmarsh
11. Willie Mason
10. Jason Ryles
9. Danny Buderus (c)
8. Luke Bailey

14. Andrew Ryan
15. Brent Kite
16. Ben Creagh
17. Craig Wing

An alternative to the above given that I believe the Blues selectors will NEVER pick Preston Campbell is Lyon to 6, King to 4, and Nathan Merritt onto the wing. Other players with a look in would be Mark O'Meley, Dean Young (if fit), Alan Tongue, Steve Simpson, Anthony Laffranchi, Craig Gower, Matt Cooper, Steve Southern, Kurt Gidley, John Sutton, Ryan Hoffman, Anthony Toupou and Reni Maitua

Queensland
1. Matt Bowen
2. Billy Slater
3. Brent Tate
4. Justin Hodges
5. Karmichael Hunt
6. Darren Lockyer
7. Jonathon Thurston
13. Tonie Carroll
12. Dane Carlaw
11. Sam Thaiday
10. Petero Civoniceva
9. Cameron Smith
8. Steve Price

14. Paul Bowman
15. Dallas Johnson
16. Matthew Scott
17. Carl Webb (if fit)

Other players in the mix would be PJ Marsh, Scott Prince, Tim Smith, Ben Smith, Willie Tonga, Cooper Cronk, Anthony Kaufusi, Jeremy Smith, Chris Beattie, Danny Nutley, Daniel Wagon, Jason Smith, Joacob Lillyman, and Ashley Graham.

My NSW team based on current form...and of course incumbents.... :)

1. Anthony Minichiello
2. Matt King
3. Timana Tahu
4. Matt Cooper
5. Eric Grothe
6. Jamie Lyon
7. Brett Kimmorley
8. Luke Bailey

12. Nathan Hindmarsh
13. Reni Maitua

14. Andrew Ryan
15. Anthony Laffranchi
16. Ben Hornby
17. Mark O'Meley

The big question is though what City vs Country brings up this year, because it could decide many of the NSW places, which is awesome as it will bring some meaning to the game once more.

The likes of Merritt, Orford, El Masri, Monaghan and co will more than likely get their chance to show their worth in City vs Country and if any of them impressed, I expect Muz to pick them as he normally picks on form, not previous results.

Steel Dragon, I am bloody hoping he improves... he is one of the best players around on his day and I know he's been about as impressive as paint drying in the opening rounds, but I hope he sparks, because not having him in the team will be a massive loss.

I'M not sure how often it has happened since 1980 but this year Queensland will head into the State of Origin series as favourites.

It almost goes against the culture of the inter-state series, doesn't it?

For years, no matter what team we have assembled and whether we were the defending champions or not, the Maroons have been lumbered with the underdogs tag.

And, for the most part, it is a label that has sat well with the teams of the past, motivating them to prove the so-called experts wrong.

Just look at us last year.

But in 2007 I don't think there is any doubt that Queensland deserves their favourites' mantle. All you have to do is read the papers or watch the news for proof of that.

The depth we possess this year, particularly in the backline, is unbelievable.

There is a wealth of talent to choose from and I don't think anyone, other than perhaps our captain Darren Lockyer, can consider themselves a shoe-in for their position.

On one hand it is a great situation to be in and on the other I think it is a bit of a curse and I certainly wouldn't want the responsibility of being a selector.

For starters, look at fullback.

With the way my little mate Matty Bowen has been playing at the back for us he should be a near certainty but unfortunately for him and the fans he is anything but.

As well as `Mango', selectors have got guys like Karmichael Hunt, Rhys Wesser, Billy Slater and even Greg Inglis to consider and all five have equally legitimate claims to the No. 1 jersey.

So then you have got to start thinking about playing guys slightly out of position or moving them on to the interchange bench in a utility capacity.

But then what do you do with Australian Test players Justin Hodges, Brent Tate and Shaun Berrigan?

There is also Steve Bell, Ashley Graham and Israel Folau to consider.

Although I played for Australia at halfback a week or so ago, I don't think I should start counting my chickens, mainly because there is a guy named Scott Prince playing brilliantly for the Gold Coast at the moment.

As good as I am certain the Queensland team will be in 2007, I reckon the biggest stories in the media will be about the blokes who missed out.

But despite all those selection headaches, I know one thing for certain.

No matter who is selected to pull on the Maroons jersey ahead of game one at Suncorp Stadium, Queensland will be well represented.

Bring on May 23 and look out New South Wales, we're looking for back-to-back crowns.

Matt Bowen, Billy Slater, Justin Hodges, Greg Inglis, Brent Tate (I'd go for Wesser), Darren Lockyer, Jonathon Thurston, Steve Price, Cameron Smith, Petero Civoniceva, Carl Webb, Brad Thorn, Dallas Johnson, Tonie Carrol, Antonio Kaufusi, Sam Thaiday, Karmichael Hunt

Anthony Minichiello, Jarryd Hayne, Matt Cooper, Jamie Lyon, Matt King, Braith Anasta, Matt Orford, Willie Mason, Robbie Farah, Brent Kite, Nathan Hindmarsh, Andrew Ryan, Anthony Tupou, Ryan Hoffman, Steve Simpson, Luke Bailey, Kurt Gidley

I'd personally go for Rhys Wesser on the wing ahead of Brent Tate but that won't happen. I feel Wesser is in good form in a rubbish team and Tate hasn't played very consistently this year. Hunt or Berrigan on the Bench would be good - both are going average at the moment and neither commands a spot. Hunt and Bowen will probably be switched and they may play Berrigan on the bench if they go for another 80 minute forward other than Thorn.

Tate is one of those hard players that consistantly tries his best each game, making him hard to drop from any side but I agree with you and would love to see Slater, Inglis and Wesser all playing in the one side.

14. Shaun Berrigan??? I'm a bit concerned there about his club form. I reckon Aaron Payne would be another option here. He has been on fire, and of course has a great combination with Thurston. I don't think it will happen, but yea that would be another option.

loving the Costigan in peoples sides. IMO he was born for Origin, full of aggression and will always stand up for his team mates.

Awesome bench but Bull should be wearing the 8 & i think Tahu had played his way into the side tonight before his hamstring gave out again.

Too many opinions of the NSW team are from Queenslanders...what are we doing?...lets let NSW work it out for themselves.

Interesting stat
Out of the top 8 dally M leaders...6 were over looked for an Origin spot
Farah, Bird, Bowen, Prince, Slater and Stewart

Obviously selectors don't use current form.
