Great Britain Amateurs v France 'A'

France ?A? 22 Great Britain Amateurs 26
Tuesday 1st November Lezignan (Kick Off: 3.00pm)

The Great Britain Amateur Rugby League side produced a stunning all round team display to beat France ?A? in a thrilling contest in Lezignan.

Despite going 10-0 down within the first 11 minutes, lead from the front by captain Paul Davidson and man of the match Mel Alker, Great Britain hit back to lead 16-10 at the interval, after scores from Simon Warhurst, Lee Wingfield and the first of an eventual brace from half back Danny Kilshaw.

Siddal?s Liam Walsh opened the visitors account on 18 minutes with a penalty, before adding the extras to Wingfield?s effort on the stroke of half time to give Great Britain the advantage at the break.

Despite the French hitting back and levelling matters early in the second period through substitute Jean-Philip Bailey, Great Britain refused to buckle and they were rewarded on 62 minutes as Kilshaw crossed for his second try of the game, before adding the extras himself.

The hosts played enterprising rugby league throughout this absorbing contest and once again put the game back in the balance after Joris Clement crossed the whitewash.

However Great Britain were not to be denied, and with just six minutes remaining prop Paul Davidson made a break, before the ball was fed to winger David Whitworth who raced in from half way to seal a famous victory.

?It was a fantastic effort from one to seventeen, I can?t fault any of the lads, their effort was superb? said Head Coach Jimmy Taylor. Coach John Monie ? who oversees the French ?A? side in addition to the full international team - was philosophical in defeat.

?We have plenty of talent in our side, however I think we?re still pretty raw.?

?I like these away trips?, added jubilant skipper Paul Davidson.

?It was a great team effort and the spirit in the side is second to none.?
