Building brighter futures!

Jetstar Gold Coast Titans forward Brad Meyers will tomorrow commence a Certificate IV in construction at the Boss Institute of Advanced Technology, Gold Coast Campus.

A registered training provider, the Boss Institute of Advanced Technology has designed a flexible course to suit Brad?s hectic NRL playing and training schedule.

Over the next eighteen months Brad will be provided with classroom and practical training (Two hours, twice a week) that will include work on a Gold Coast building site.

At the completion of his studies Brad will be recognised as a licensed builder, specialising in carpentry.

Jetstar Gold Coast Titans Managing Director Michael Searle said preparing players for life after the NRL is the responsibility of all Clubs.

Michael said ?I congratulate Brad on the commencement of his training with the Boss Institute and hope that many other young footballers may follow his example and start preparing for life after their career in the NRL is over. To receive this type of training on a flexible basis while he is still playing, will ensure that Brad is well placed to make a successful switch to the building industry at the end of his playing days,? said Searle

MP Margaret May a supporter of the Boss Institute will be present to welcome Brad as he commences his training tomorrow morning.

Great to see the Titans helping their players prepare for post rugby league careers.

I think seeing older players under go courses like this, obviosuly helps them but also sets a great example for even fans to follow suit. There are some amazing courses for all tastes and dreams.

I read a post on another team's forum saying that their club was a better club because it cared about the players and prepared them for life after rugby, unlike the Titans who seem to be more preoccupied with money.

Needless to say I had to respond to this worthless dribble, particularly since at that time the Titans hadn't even played their first trial game and were already being accused of not preparing players for retirement.

Good on the club for showing their intention to support players in preparation for life after league, and good on Brad for using the opportunities that are provided to him for his future.
He's a shining example for the younger players who think their whole life is just about playing football.
