Sorry if this is in the wrong section, if it needs to be moved to General sport, feel free to do so, I'm not sure if Touch counts as a Rugby League topic or a general topic.... :peace:

OK now to the business at hand...

If you are free this Saturday or Sunday and live in Sydney, more preferably on the coast, GET down and see this, because it is going to be really cool.

The great Gorden Tallis has gotten together some mates and they are going to be playing a competition of Beach Touch football, at Maroubra Beach both Tomorrow and on Sunday.

The difference between this and any normal game of touch football, is that Gordie's mates aren't just his mates from the Broncos or down at the local pub... they are real sports stars, some of the best in the world.

Imagine seeing the likes of Gasnier, Mason, Slater, Lockyer, Hodges on the field against each other, and you already have a great prospect.

Add to that though the likes of superstar All Blacks Jerry Collins and Ma'a Nonu, Superstar AFL player Nick Riewoldt, the superstar of rugby league Andrew Johns, the champion winning Aussie Women's touch team and some of the biggest league up and comers in the game including Josh Morris and John Sutton... and now you are salivating.

Top it off with celebrities including golfer Peter Lonard, model and TV celebrity Jake Wall, Boxer Anthony Mundine, Wiggle Anthony Field and Big Gordie himself and you have a must see event. Then to add the cherry to the cake, Bill Harrigan is referee and the Hooters girls are providing additional entertainment with a beach modelling parade... :D :D

Yes so if you are down in the area of Maroubra tomorrow or Sunday, get down and watch this... I will be if I can find some time around the hectic Christmas schedule because I just reckon it will be awesome to see the likes of Mark Gasnier up against Ma'a Nonu or Andrew Johns taking on Jerry Collins.

Just to make the game extra interesting as well, you are also able to kick the ball in the game.

I wonder who will be the champion of the beach, and just who will be able to do the job in what is sure to be some great games of touch footy.

Ok so for everyone now who is interested, here are the teams.... :)

Can't believe the selectors overlooked the Raiders again

p.s- Well I guess we can claim Tyran Smith, pretty sure he spent longer in Green then his other 47 clubs.

Lol, yeah

They could've atleast included Zillman or Carney in the Young-Guns side.

Yep Queensland won.... Well done to the beating the young guns, who beat NSW in the semis.... and well done to the Celebrities for making the semis ahead of the Pacific Islander/NZ team... :)

Overall a great weekend of Touch, I didn't get to see it live but from all reports it went really well and it is something they will look at doing again next year.. :D :D

Life's a beach for Maroons
By James Phelps
December 18, 2006 12:00

WITH bikini girls parading and rock music pumping from the stands, Maroubra beach yesterday turned it on for the final day of the Harvey Norman Beach Footy extravaganza.

About 5000 fans lapped up the sunshine as the biggest names in the NRL showcased their skills on the sand.

It was the Queenslanders who stole the show, with captain Darren Lockyer leading the Maroons to a closely fought 3-2 win over the Young Guns in the final.

The Blues were knocked out by the Young Guns in the semi-final.

Lockyer capped off a remarkable year, having won every tournament he has played in.

"It is a good feeling," he said. "It was a lot of fun out there today."

Led by Andrew Johns and Anthony Mundine, the Celebrities proved the surprise packet of the tournament, beating the Kiwi side and the Australian women's touch football side for a semi-final spot.

Event organiser George Mimis said he was hoping to put the event on again next year.

"It has been a huge success," he said. "The crowds were treated to a great spectacle.

"You don't get too many chances to see all the big names in the NRL in the one place. Hopefully we can do it all again next year."

Talk to Mimis... he said on radio this morning he will keep it in East Sydney ATM as it is only small, but if there is support from sponsors and enough players, then they will have several tournaments in different areas in the future once the initiative has support... ;)
