St George Illawarra prop Luke Bailey took out the club's player of the year award at a formal presentation at Town Hall in Sydney on Friday evening.

The 25-year-old New South Wales and Australian prop won the St George Bank Medal ahead of fellow forward Dean Young and skipper Trent Barrett.

The club's highest honour is decided by a variety of criteria which includes voting by first grade players and coaching staff and other factors taken into account by the club.

Bailey will play one more season with the Dragons next year before linking with the new Gold Coast outfit.

Previous winners of the award are Mathew Head (2004), Ben Hornby (2003), Shaun Timmins (2002), Jason Ryles (2001), Barrett (2000) and Jamie Ainscough (1999).

For the first time, the Dragons also teamed with St George Bank and the club's three immortals - John Raper, Reg Gasnier and Graeme Langlands - to introduce an "Immortals St George Bank Trophy" Award.

Young was chosen as the inauguaral winner of the award which is based on performance, attitude, commitment and dedication.

The 21-year-old also took out the Red V Members Player of the Year, voted on by the Dragons membership base.

Baily has played great this year...really well deserved. He seems to be one of the most consistent forwards over recent years.
