THE Gold Coast Titans have "money left in the tank" for more big-name players following the signing yesterday of young goal-kicking Parramatta centre Brett Delaney and hard-running South Sydney prop Mark Minichiello.
Titans CEO Michael Searle said they would look to strengthen the halves and front row while another outside back could come into the frame.
Searle will meet with Bulldogs and Queensland forward Nate Myles on Saturday but said the fledgling club could not compete with offers reportedly on the table from the Roosters and Melbourne.
"But as far as our budget goes we are on schedule and we are in a position to sign big-name players from what we have left in the tank," Searle said. "With Brett and Mark's signing that takes our roster to 21 and we would be looking to get to 23 in the next week."
Myles is also scheduled to meet Broncos coach Wayne Bennett on Saturday but Brisbane CEO Bruno Cullen yesterday reiterated his stance that the club had not chased the Bulldogs player and was in no position to compete with rival offers.
Minichiello shapes as a starting prop for the Titans next year while Delaney will challenge Preston Campbell for the goal-kicking role.
Exciting Storm youngster Jackson Nicolau will join the Cowboys next season with the club hoping he will prove to be Johnathan Thurston's long-term halves partner.
Melbourne had been grooming Nicolau as the replacement for Scott Hill, who will join London club Harlequins next season, but Storm recruitment head Peter O'Sullivan is philosophical about the 18-year-old Innisfail product's decision to move to Townsville.
"The Cowboys have offered way more than we can afford," O'Sullivan said."But one door closes and another door opens. We're talking to someone and hope to clinch a deal soon."
O'Sullivan said five-eighth was Nicoloau's best position.
Manly hooker Michael Monaghan's chances of joining the Cowboys have effectively been torpedoed by Nicolau's signing.
Fraser Anderson is set to accept a big-money offer from Cronulla with the Titans dropping out of the bidding for the Broncos utility.
