Kiwis Set To Face Off For Tri-Series Spots
08/06/2006
Marcus Forbes
The Kiwis could face a State of Origin style trial at the end of this season.
New Zealand Rugby League chairman Sel Bennett told XtraMSN there was the potential that Kiwis playing in the NRL and Super League competitions will play each other in October.
"We're looking at a window of opportunity on October 7," Bennett said.
"It's a week after the NRL grand final but a week before the Super League grand final in Great Britain.
"There's no football on at all, we're not committed to the Tri-Series until the following week.
"We're looking to bring a Northern Kiwis side down to play an NRL Kiwis side."
Bennett said talks had already begun to find a venue for the game.
"We're talking to several stadiums - Hamilton being one and Palmerston North - about hosting this game.
"Our Tri-Series team would come out of that game."
Meanwhile next season's re-creation of the All Golds tour looks set to be finalised by the end of the month.
"It will be finalised when we go to England," Bennett said.
"At the moment it looks like we'll play a warm-up against Cumbria, a game against Northern Union and then we have a three test series against England in preparation for the world cup
