Titans: David Peachey - depth signing?

David Peachey after a chat with Preston on Friday night at the City vs Country game hinted at speaking to the Titans to test the water on a possible NRL return...thoughts?

Personally, Peach' I think is done as a NRL player though he could be a good depth signing for the club who is put on an incentive based contract playing for one of our feeder clubs in the QRL. Richie Mathers or Clinton Greenshields is my preference for fullback and Peach as great as he has been would not be able to hold off either player.

what about a fullback coach. he could help some of our back three with some things like positioning, counter attack and the high ball.

as far as i remember peachey an preston used to work very well together. he would be a great depth signing. but yet again also a great fullback coach also.

I think he could keep a fullback spot if he was signed... All it takes is a bit of form and wham!

No youth is the way to go we don't want to become a retirement village, leave that for the UK super league.

dont sign him as a player, coach only
he only has a few years left in him

Geez all you talking about young players.. we need experience too... some good leaders for the first few years... and Peachey is one of those who could do it.. he still has 2 seasons in him.. and will give the side the leadership it needs for the start of a new club.. GO FOR DAVO I SAY.. :D :D

I tend to agree with both Jas and BDT311 here, we should be aiming for the youth, but we do need a steady experienced leadership core to base the youth around. Peach would be good for all the players at the club with his experience and skills.

The focus we at the club should have is one eye on the future, one eye on the present. Suggesting we could be a 'retirement village' is ridiculous given two reasons;

1. Michael has made it abundantly clear we will be anything but seen as a place to 'retire' and I am sure the addition of Billy Johnstone only confirms that. If you show interest in the Titans and are lucky enough to get a contract, be prepared to work and work hard.

2. All of our current signings are under the age of 30

Honestly, I don't think Peach is an option with the club given again, we are going to be pushing hard for Richie Mathers - we all know this. The other preferred option of mine is the signing of Clinton Greenshields as a fullback, not 32 y.o. David Peachey.

Suggestions of Peach coaching has merit though I am not sure there is any club in the NRL with a 'fullback coach' currently. David Peachey is one of those rare players who relied solely on instinct, alot of what he did in the game is not coachable, it just happened. Let's be honest, the fundamental flaws in his game (e.g. running the ball one handed, poor tackling) are not what I want being passed on to young stars on the way up.

I see your point but just because a footballers body can handle the game doesn't mean that have the ability to play. Some people can and have lost the flare for the game even in the mid to late 20's but they garentee themselves a contract purely on reputation until the body gives out early or mid 30's

It has been said but Peach and Campbell would also be great to interact with the indeginous community from Northern NSW up!

he will get more exp this season with the dragons as head is out

He should play like Darren Smith did for the Broncos, shelled out to a feeder club and playing when called upon. Tweed and Ipswich don't have outstanding fullbacks (but Burleigh has Reggie Cressbrook). I also feel we should take him as a fullback coach, we need specialist coaches.

Even if Peachey did sign for one or two years his experience and maturity would be a bonus for the Titans or any team. As Deegan said calling the the Titans a retirement village is ridiculous. A team need youth but it also need old heads.

Bowen cant handle the high ball to well, but he a great fullback in other aspects. He did alright last game with the high ball so who knows, if that make sense. :hmm:

a few years is all we would need him for. enough time for some of the juniors to gain some experience and confidence in first grade.

The Gold Coast can't be allowed to be the transit lounge of rugby league, meaning old hack players using the club for one or two more years before retirement.cya. :peace:

I would hate to see 6 or 7 players like that, but surely we can have 1 or 2 to add some experience to the club?

I was thinking you do need one or two old heads - if for nothing else but to impart their knowledge on how to be a thourough professional..

If Peachey was fair dinkum & didn't want much money he would be worth looking at for a year or two.He only left the NRL last year & was playing okay.

I think the experience would be beneficial, BUT we have Richie Mathers, the England fullback for crying out load. Richie is young and still is yet to reach his ful potential. In my opinion buying Peachey would be a lost cause, with the money he would be asking better spent on junior development. This would benefit us as a team a lot more then him playing two years in the Qld Cup. Yes, we need experience, but David Peachey, in my opinion is not the way to go.

I don't think we should sign Peachey unless Souths don't want him and he comes cheap. I think he adds something for Souths but he's not someone the Titans will need with Campbell providing the experience in the backline with Brian Carney
