Phil in for Young.

I'd say Sami or Copley (if fit) in for T but they both play left, so I'm not sure. Or do we just persist with him?

I want these entitled bastards to get the spoon
A loss is totally unacceptable
We will be letting the whole world down if we lose this one
Hurricane and the Coaches and the players better understand that.

Failure is not an option

Posted in the Dogs thread but Copley tore his pec so he is done for the year and probably the Titans.

Does anyone know if Kelly or Joliffe are any chance of playing?
It’s Tuesday and I already feel sick in the stomach over this one.
We have to beat the Drongoes.
I won’t cope with a loss.

Yeah we’ve got a shocking record since the KG/Mead days. Pere will be gone, Spry isn’t ready to play centre and has wingers in front of him, GL is a specialist winger who doesn’t have the match fitness to be a reliable option, and Seiuli is caught between second row and centre without any reserve grade to find out where he fits. Jax Paulo is playing great for Souths I’m really happy for him. Their structure does though have a knack of making wingers looking very good - look at Robert Jennings for example.

This is going to be a tough game and Kelly out is a big loss to our attack. Our edges both look underwhelming and I imagine Fifita will actually turn up wanting to play this weekend.

Mr Bods
08-09-20, 07:21 PM
I expect the Drongoes to see this as the game to target to get the wooden spoon off their backs and yes I’m very worried Fifita wants to make a statement.
However, Hurricane understands what the fans want more than any Coach we have had and I’m sure he’s going to have our team primed for the Derby.

HZ do you think that Paulo would have been given the opportunity if he stayed with us? It’s seems to me that over the years we have been reluctant to give these younger guys a go and happy to stick with the status quo - despite their shortfalls. This year has been tough on the extended squad with them having no chance to impress in QCup. Take GL for example, we have heard how he lacks match fitness but how is he meant to gain that without being given a run?

Other teams outside of the eight tend to look to the next season and blood younger players tsp they experience for the next year. We don’t seem to do that when it comes to outside backs. We have been happy to do it in the forwards but apart from Arthars, who was the last rookie winger or centre we played? Sami? He’s now played 50 games.

Saw Dominique Loudon post a training vid of spry spending some time in the centers with don, I know fermor will do a solid job in the centers and might be better defensively but I'd love to see spry in there or even on the bench, staggs is horriblly defensivly would be good to have a natural center attacking that edge, only one way to find out if he's up to it or not

If they put Dearden/Fifita on the same side now that Glenn is back...that could be lethal too. Apart from his kicking game which hasn't been great, Dearden has looked dangerous these past few weeks. Pretty nervous going into this one.

Titans v Broncos: Kelly, Jolliffe out; Glenn returns
https://www.nrl.com/

The roles are shockingly reversed as former NRL easybeats the Titans head into their derby with Brisbane as Queensland's leading team.

Six points clear of the Broncos and four in advance of the Cowboys, the Gold Coast are already two wins ahead of their 2019 tally and in the form to add to that total.

The Titans enter the contest fresh off their first back-to-back wins of the season, having accounted for the Dragons (14-10) and Bulldogs (18-14), while Brisbane haven't claimed two points since they beat Canterbury 26-8 in round nine.

The Broncos have conceded 38.1 points per game during their eight-game losing streak to saddle them with the worst defensive record in the competition - their 548 points against a massive 121 more than the 15th-ranked Titans.

Team news
Titans: Centre Brian Kelly is out with an ankle injury. Beau Fermor will move from second row to centre and Keegan Hipgrave comes into the pack. Prop Jaimin Jolliffe is also sidelined with an ankle problem and his place is taken by Moeaki Fotuaika, who will move from the bench to the starting side.

Jai Whitbread has been added to the bench. Jai Arrow played long minutes in his return from a shoulder issue last week and could move into the starting side closer to game time.

Hooker Nathan Peats (calf) has been included in the extended squad and could return. The Titans are aiming to defeat the Broncos twice in a season for the first time.

Broncos: Captain Alex Glenn will return from a knee injury in the back row with Ben Te'o going to the bench. Suspended duo Jordan Riki and Jamil Hopoate both drop off the interchange while Joe Ofahengaue returns from a ban.

Winger Xavier Coates (foot) has replaced Ethan Bullemor on the pine. The Broncos are aiming to avoid a club record ninth consecutive loss.

Key match-up
Jamal Fogarty v Tom Dearden: These two young halfbacks have made strong claims to being their teams' play-making future. Dearden (15 career games) has been one of the few bright spots in Brisbane's dismal 2020 collapse while Fogarty has progressed so rapidly that he was installed as stand-in Titans captain despite still only having 17 total games under his belt

Stat attack
The Gold Coast are chasing their first season double over the Broncos in the club's 14th NRL season. Five times the Titans have won the first clash of the year and failed to seal the deal in the return bout, including in both 2018 and 2019, but with all the momentum sixth time could be the charm.

Just looking at the gallery of the captains run on Facebook and you can see Jamal taking charge! Photos of him addressing the group, addressing players.
I may be biased as a Bears fan, but he has really taken what he learned as a 2 time QCup premiership captain and bringing it to a team that has lacked leadership.

Titans claim historic win over bumbling Broncos
https://www.titans.com.au/n

The Gold Coast Titans registered their first-ever season sweep of Brisbane with an 18-6 victory on Saturday at Cbus Super Stadium that also condemned the Broncos to a club-record ninth straight loss.

Playmakers Jamal Fogarty and Ash Taylor orchestrated an adventurous and expansive attacking game that was backed up by a physical and committed defensive effort which twice denied Brisbane players after they had crossed the tryline.

Brisbane had the possession to make a game of it in the second half but failed to show the same sort of creativity with the ball.

The Titans put the game away just three minutes into the second stanza with a marvellous team try ignited from in front of the posts inside his 10m line by Taylor and finished off by centre Young Tonumaipea.

Gold Coast led 12-6 at the break thanks to a mountain of possession and a heads-up play by winger Corey Thompson who punched the ball out of David Fifita's arm just before he touched down in the Titans in-goal.

The Broncos had defied the form line to score first when veteran fullback Darius Boyd got his hand to a grubber that took a lucky ricochet but hooker Mitch Rein evened the ledger soon after when he bulled his way over opposite Issac Luke from dummy half.

Rising rookie halfback Fogarty then gave the home team the lead when he kicked for veteran flanker Anthony Don and back-rower Sam Stone pounced after Corey Oates made a hash of his second successive high ball.

Great win. I have constantly bagged him but Peachey was excellent tonight. Worked hard, good defensive technique rather than arm grabs and no stupid penalties. If this is the Peachey we get every week we have our lock. Credit to Holbrook who has challenged him and I am guessing dangled the carrot of the 13 next year. Holbrook also had the foresight to keep Peachey starting even though Arrow is available, with an eye to next year. Love our coach.

Don't think Young is the answer in the centres next year (neither is Spry), but he did well containing Staggs tonight.

Loved the team performance overall but we definitely need to invest in a centre for next year. I am just not seeing anything from Young T in attack and he seems to leave his halves very much exposed in defence. Kotoni has been weak defensively all year and yet Young never even looked likely of a line break or getting on his outside. For all the wraps I heard about him when he signed, he has been quite disappointing.

Whats Doing
12-09-20, 08:26 PM
Great team effort and Perenara didn’t disappoint in that 2nd half.

The structure Holbrook has given this team is light years better than I have seen in any Titans team since inception.

Special mention tor Ash who had his best game for 2 years. He was immense in defence.

That 90 minute team try will be a contender for try of the year.

The only disappointment were our centres who really struggled all night.

I also thought Mo easily outpointed Haas

Sucked in Pereneum trying to get them back in it

And Holbrook is a god of a man to get this roster playing like this
Hurricane Holbrook has been sent to us by the footy gods and must be treasured and supported

Don't get me wrong I dislike Perenara as much as the next bloke but I honestly don't think he was particularly bias this game. Sometimes it just seems like he is a poor referee rather than bias in my opinion. Plenty of other fans don't like him either.

On YT being aggressive in defence, sure he may have been, probably had bias goggles on, but that did also leave Ash 1 on 1 with Fifita because he rushed out which annoyed me a bit. After that seeing his ineffective attack just wore thin especially that dud kick on 4th... wtf

Anyway out of the bottom 4. Extremely proud of the team this year and hopefully they can beat manly at the very least. Seeing Ash dominate DCE would be absolutely beautiful. Either way exciting times to be a Titans fan.

It was just great to be at the ground and feel the dislike for the Broncos tonight and to hear the boos as they ran on was music to my ears.
A bit of a grind in the second half but who cares - two wins over the Broncs this year.
I have been a great critic of Taylor but he was superb tonight.
As for Young, he had a shocker again, but who cares, we won.

And look how Badel and co. have already spun the Fifita signing..

What a joke. I hope Dave remembers this when he plays them next year.

Can't blame Fifita for failing to turn chicken **** into chicken salad. We get Stone, Fermor, Proctor and Hipgrave through the line every week. If we can train an athlete the caliber of Fifita back into hitting the line with some purpose instead of just turning him back inside with no momentum just to probe as the Bronco's have been he has the potential to be the best backrower in the comp.

Wow! Just read it. Badel is a dick, so is the Broncos interim coach. Pretty well Focused on Fifita’s efforts (and not the team as a whole). Yep, Fifita cost them the game lol.

awesome grind from our guys. lots of little efforts especially on the goal line that won us this match.

Ash was great, and had the job with Young T of handling Staggs and Fifi and they did a great job.

couple of other things - i agree Bods, the broncs looked huge and very intimidating in warm up... maybe that size is working against them this year, im not sure but the difference was noticeable and had me slightly concerned pre game.

secondly, i glad we beat them twice, and top QLD team or whatever... but we need to stop being happy with these small minded, consolation milestones from here on out. I could Tell coach was annoyed having to pretend to care about it when journos brought it up. Just focus on winning more games every year and these petty things become irrelevant. its almost embarrassing

Yeh it does feel like we are getting a present in every wrap of pass the parcel. Which I absolutely hate too.

Posted this after the Bulletin ran the same CM article ... what a turd Badel is:

“Where are the GC Bulletin writers? Sure syndicated articles are the norm but in a local derby I don’t want to read the Brisbane vitriol from their hacks. The Titans outplayed the ‘Ponies and deserve the accolades.”

Brisbane Broncos condemned to record losing streak by Gold Coast Titans
The Titans claimed their second consecutive win over the Broncos, who crashed to their ninth straight loss - the worst losing streak in Brisbane’s history - while the man under the spotlight went missing.

The Titans did a hatchet job on their big-money recruit David Fifita as the Broncos superstar copped a stinging reality check in Brisbane’s 18-6 derby defeat at Cbus Super Stadium.

Facing the Titans for the first time since inking a $3.5 million deal to join the club next season, Fifita was well contained by a pumped-up Gold Coast pack which showed no mercy for their future teammate.

The Broncos were banking on Fifita to carve up the Coast in a bid to impress his future club but it was the Titans who flexed their muscle to claim bragging rights over their marquee signing.

Underscoring the power shift between the clubs, the Titans claimed their second consecutive win over the Broncos, who crashed to their ninth straight loss - the worst losing streak in Brisbane’s 32-year history.

The Broncos started well, striking first when Darius Boyd crossed in the seventh minute, but the Titans gradually took control and belted Brisbane in midfield to leave Big Brother in wooden-spoon territory.

Fifita was by no means poor. He amassed 150 metres, three offloads and one tackle bust, including the powerful 35th-minute charge in which he beat Ash Taylor and carried three Titans over the tryline, only to lose the ball as he was about to score.

But Taylor exacted revenge in the 44th minute, exposing Fifita’s lazy defence when he sliced through inside his own 20-metre zone in the lead-up to a superb Titans try which gave the Coast a crucial 18-6 lead.

Premiership-winning coach Phil Gould took to social media to lash Fifita for his jumper grab on a night where the Coast were sharper and hungrier as the Broncos slumped to their 15th loss in 16 games.

“A lot of teams are doing their homework on Dave, leading early and getting in his face,” Broncos interim coach Peter Gentle said.

“The Titans can’t rely on him to be a one-man team (next year), defences are getting up on him.

“There are areas on Dave’s game we are working on.”

BUMBLING BRONCOS
Brisbane’s freefall this season has been so dramatic that the Titans have usurped the Broncos as Queensland’s No.1 team.

Last night’s clash was an emphatic snapshot of the two clubs. The Titans are on the rise, while the Broncos’ $52 million empire is in ruins. A banner in the stands read: “Broncos Qld’s Shame.” Ouch.

ROLLED OATES
Corey Oates is in danger of losing his Queensland Origin jumper. It’s been a turbulent season for a number of Broncos players and Oates has endured the worst campaign of his career.

The lanky winger had a nightmare first half, making four errors inside 30 minutes, including his failure to defuse a Jamal Fogarty cross-field kick which led to Sam Stone’s 24th minute try to give the Titans a 12-6 lead.

NO SIX APPEAL
Sean O’Sullivan should be dropped as Brisbane five-eighth for Friday night’s away clash against Parramatta. O’Sullivan is simply not an NRL standard player and he was totally outclassed by Titans pivot Taylor.

The halves were the difference at Robina. While Titans duo Taylor and Jamal Fogarty were slick, O’Sullivan and Tom Dearden never clicked.

TITANS 18 (Rein, Stone, Tonumaipea & Goals: Taylor 3/3) BRONCOS 6 (Tries: Boyd & Goals: Staggs 1/1) at Cbus Super Stadium, Gold Coast.

I’m just fed up with the Broncos dominating the media. No matter how well we play we will still be lucky to get anymore than on decent sized article compared to the Broncos 4 pages. I also hate how we never play well in the eyes of the media and it is always the broncos who play badly. Also, those are **** comments by Gentle about how we can’t be a one man team, we are pbviously not as we beat them with our ‘one man team player’ playing for them. And Badle starting the article off with a jab at the titans rather than praising them for a good performance and then consistently talking about how Fifita is a bad player and making him look like he was the reason they lost the game even though he managed to sum up 150 metres in a quiet game by his standards would seem to show something completely different. Broncos aren’t the only team in Queensland and not every Queenslander supports them, in fact a majority of them probably don’t, so it is time the media accepts this fact and stops writing pages on top of pages of Broncos bull**** and focus on some of the teams which are actually performing alright and building a solid fan base.

Also, while it may be impossible for the Titans to make the 8 according to the ladder predictor this isn’t entirely correct as the ladder predictor doesn’t factor in the slight chance of the sharks, who can’t not make the 8, decide to protest against the strict COVID-19 restrictions and don’t turn up to the game. This could get them removed from the rest of the comp leaving a window of opportunity for the titans to make the top-8 and fight deep inside the finals proving themselves to be gueniune premiership contenders and maybe even win the grand final. This is my bold prediction for the 2020 finals.
