Proctor will be suspended, who knows for how long.

Copley looks like a serious injury. Not sure about Arrow.

I think Thompson has earned his place in the team again.

Titans v Raiders: Double pack blow looms; Canberra count blessings
http://www.nrl.com

The Raiders won't want to get off to another slow start against a much-improved Gold Coast if they are to maintain their challenge for a top-four spot.

Canberra trailed the troubled Broncos at the break last round but restored normal transmission with a five-try second-half blitz which delivered their highest score and biggest winning margin of the season.

That gave the Green Machine a share of fourth place with the Roosters - and Canberra will be looking to capitalise on a nice run home as the premiers struggle with an overflowing injury ward.

The Titans have been a much better side in August, going to-to-toe with the Roosters and Sharks either side of ambushing the Cowboys to claim their fourth win of the season.

Titans: Captain Kevin Proctor will defend a biting charge at the judiciary on Tuesday night. Proctor is adamant he didn't bite Sharks halfback Shaun Johnson, but if found guilty the second-rower faces a lengthy stint out. Star lock Jai Arrow suffered AC joint damage to his shoulder against Cronulla. Scan results will be known on Monday afternoon, but it seems unlikely that Arrow will play. Centre Dale Copley is out - likely for the season - after suffering a major pectoral strain. Backs Anthony Don (ribs) and Phil Sami (knee) could come back to offset that loss.

Raiders: Few changes are expected for the Raiders, with no fresh injuries and none of their sidelined players slated to return for another week at least.

Key match-up
Brian Kelly v Jarrod Croker: The Titans centre has been in fine form in recent weeks, scoring tries in three of his past five outings and setting up the Gold Coast's first four-pointer in their loss to Cronulla with an early break. He represents a potent threat for the low-scoring Titans, especially in combination on the left with winger Corey Thompson. Veteran rival Croker, providing much-needed stability and experience for the injury-ravaged Raiders, has five try assists and sits in the NRL's top 10 point-scorers but has just three tries to his credit against Kelly's five.

Stat Attack
Canberra have won five of their past six clashes with the Titans but, notably, the underdogs' only victory in that four-year span came on the Gold Coast. The home team held on for a 30-28 victory after leading 24-12 at halftime.

I'd love to hear Holbrooke reasoning for picking Sami and don over Thompson on the wing, he's our best outside back for making metres coming out of our own end which is where we really struggle. It's the only criticism I have for Holbrook

Thompson in the reserves...come on. Thought he had a great game last week...tackle busts galore.

And Don is so slow I shudder every time teams shift towards his side to catch him infield. Apart from his height, he offers absolutely nothing else anymore.

Hail Sezer
18-08-20, 05:13 PM
Thompson was also behind Robert Jennings at West’s, so I can’t help but think there is something on the field that he is deficient at which our level of footy IQ doesn’t register. I also would have him over Don.

Not a fan of Sam Stone at all either - watch how much of the contact he wins.

Proctor’s hearing is starting shortly, for those who want to tune in you can do so via the nrl website.

I can’t see how Thompson misses out too.. don runs sideways a lot when running in and gets caught in defense nearly every game.. and Sami I don’t see what’s the hype about him, he looks lazy a lot or not interested.. Thompson looks so dangerous with the ball in his hand.. feel sorry for him! Hopefully proctor gets off.. I like Fermor on the bench too.. he looks dangerous with the ball in his hand

The evidence being provided by Johnson isn't clearly saying wether Proctor did or did not bite him

JunctionBlock
18-08-20, 08:36 PM
It does now. Johnson wasn't the best witness but certainly wasn't the worst. Lawyers must be into OT rates by now. Chaching.

FalconSloth

with the statements made so far:

Perenara stating there was no teeth marks

Johnson saying he didn't bite him

Proctor saying denying that he bit Johnson

It would be a massive call for the judicairy to say he is guilty based of the video alone despite all of those statements

FalconSloth

8.57pm: The panel has returned. NRL counsel McGrath now making his submission.

McGrath says the panel have to be satisfied there was intentional dangerous contact. "My case is what you see, and what all the evidence adds up to, is biting by player Proctor in that moment - perhaps in that very short moment - on the forearm of player Johnson."

He points to Johnson's initial angry reaction to the incident and the observation of a red mark on the player's forearm by referee Henry Perenara. "Whatever [Johnson] wishes to say now, at the time we saw that honest reaction."

McGrath argues that Johnson "opened a box that he couldn't put everything back in" and started to backtrack after realising the effect his complaint could have on Proctor's reputation, outlining the pair's long friendship.

Ex Footballers aren’t going to convict a bloke of biting when there was no bite especially with KP’s record.
He will be exonerated.

FalconSloth
18-08-20, 09:25 PM
Apparently Johnson’s arm comes away from Proctors mouth and Proctor then goes forward and bites him. While Johnson shows an expression of pain. What the **** is this. I don’t care if his mouth closed or what way his head went there was obviously no intentional bite. Johnson doesn’t think it was, proctor doesn’t and perenara isn’t saying yes or no. And for McGrath to focus on Johnson anger afterwards is a joke. He thought it was a bite due to the pressure he was placing on Proctors bottom teeth and therefore was angry at proctor but him. This is the same reason there was pain in his face; because of the pressure on his bottom teeth.

- - - Updated - - -

Sorry for the long rant but hat probably makes no sense and has heaps of spelling and gramatical errors. I was just typing out whatever game to my mind. Also I feel sorry for Fuimaono. His first trip to the judiciary and he has had to wait nervously for 2 hours longer than he was supposed to

- - - Updated - - -

9.20pm: Wrapping up, McGrath says it may not have been a long or strong bite, but he submits all the evidence points to Proctor being guilty. Over to Fuller.

Fuller says there must be proof of a bite occurring in order to find Proctor guilty, and after the extensive review of video footage, "it is unclear as to whether an actual bite has occurred". He submits there is "absolutely no evidence" that the red mark on Johnson's arm was caused by a bite.

TitanPremiership

The worst part is the penalty count is even so looks like we have actually been given a fair go. Anyone loaded and able to stump up the fine so Holbrook can absolutely let loose at the press conference?

FalconSloth
22-08-20, 04:55 PM
Would have been 22-34 and we would have had a great chance. We haven’t been great but we’ve been reffed out of the game

Just going back to the captains challenge. It was a knock on by a useless player. But Canberra broke from the scrum before the ball had left the scrum. No penalty though.

Peats, Peachey and Sami. Not up to standard.

I’d be happy to never see Peachey pull on a Titans jersey again. Prick has no respect for us and always looks like he’d rather be anywhere else.

Agreed... If the ref has done no wrong what is there to worry about and the coach themselves is left with egg on his face. There is just absolutely zero accountability for these referees with Annesley's weekly shenanigans missing plenty and offering a pathetic apology for repetitive mistakes. I can put up with some poor calls but they literally change the game for us almost every week and we have to go in expecting the garbage. In saying that if Peachey gets a run next week that is me. Just so poor and looks lazy all the time.

I agree with we can't blame the referees in whole because the defence was terrible, however, most of their possession in our end did come off soft penalties and 6 agains so I am happy to say they limited our chance. The fact Fogarty threw his hands up at the ref before he indicated it was our penalty down their end says it all really. He literally expected a bad call.

Don’t cover for them
In the first half they got all the soft pens and 6 to go calls and we got nothing
Plus the bunker did their thing too

Forgaty tried his gut out today great captain's knock he been good for us
No good to complain about the ref as nothing will get done about until we are challenging for the finals
The Raiders had to stay in the top 4 somehow couldn't see a bottom team beating them today
Taylor watch out T Boyd is knocking on your door
Peachy should be on a plane as well to Sydney for any team that would take him
as soon as he came on we lost the game does it all the time
Jolliffe is my rookie of the year been strong for his 1st year
but again we are let down at dummy half

I never really expected a win today. Always knew we'd struggle without the experience in our forward pack of Arrow and like him or not, Proctor, and boy did it show. Stone and Whitbread are not NRL standard at all.

Titanic
22-08-20, 05:57 PM
We saw some very good things today, such as: (1) Fogarty displaces Proctor immediately and never relinquishes the [C] after his name, (2) Boyd showed Titanic [and a few others] that he is worth his place, (3) AJ had another cracker of a game, (4) Jolliffe should become an honorary Coaster [arrange that please Bodsie], (5) Hipgrave deserves his spot no matter his occasional brainfarts [every team has one like him who the opposition try to avoid], (6) Thompson out jumps Don even though he's half his size and has twice the heart running it back, (7) MoFo although great again needs help, he's looking a tad jaded.

Then we saw the failures: (1) 'Softy' Wallace getting stripped was one instance, (2) Peachey's ability to give away the most stupid penalties while generally looking like he was miffed by not being captain, (3) Sami had a dig but I'm sure we can do a lot better, (4) agree with 101 that Stone and Whitbread are not NRL standard, (5) Peats is a shadow of his former self and seems to be carrying an injury.

May as well finish them all off with those who got marginal pass marks: (1) Kelly strong without being exceptional today, (2) Lisone held his own without setting the world on fire until it was too late, (3) Fermor needs to do far more ... and (4) the missing person award goes to Young T who was [dare I say it] missing, gone fishing.

Difita, Tino and Ese2 for Whitbread, Stone and Fermor (at this stage), find a hooker (one of the Smiths would do just fine and dandy) and get Crystal Copley on steroids (yes, I know we can probably do better but I was very disappointed with Young's effort today). I know that leaves Proctor out but them's the breaks. Funny how the Cokey incident has been forgotten.

Today was not a complete shambles. Apart from peachy just collecting his paycheck, the rest of the team had a crack. We got a good look at what our side without arrow and Proctor and we need Proctor around for another year in my opinion. Our defence fell apart in stages, due to inexperience mainly.
Fogarty needs to keep the captaincy and it needs to be his side. Boyd looked good and is quality replacement at the moment. I would love to see fogarty play like that behind our forward pack next year with Taylor firing as well. My only criticism of fogarty is that he needed to find the grass more on his long kicks. Very minor gripe.
Brimson is our best player by far. His positional play and support was outstanding today. He will absolutely love running off tino and fifita.
Last thing was the reffing. I am watching the tigers game now and it seems like a trend to me with the referees. That is, if you are in the bottom eight and especially bottom four, don't expect to get a 50/50 call at all. Sloppy pay from peachy but it wasn't a knock on. They just don't seem consistent. That is the problem.
One last thing, Broncos lost 36-8 to Canberra last week, so we are still out performing them. ( in my mind only)

Surely we have someone other than Peachy to sit on the bench. How can this muppet get picked every week.
Something dumb within two minutes of coming on every week for about six weeks now.
I see him come on , I sigh , and then a high tackle or a stupid penalty.
Please stop picking him in the side Garth.
Surely he could just go off for a haircut with TPJ, anything please.

Justin has plenty of options other than Peachey. Given he’s contracted and has no intention of going anywhere I dare say the Coach is trying to Coach him out of his poor form.
He was once good enough to get an Origin jersey.

How would you (and others) compete the Mo and Vaughan tackles?

willhelm
23-08-20, 01:52 PM
I think by the letter of the law, it was a crusher tackle by Mo. However, the Fox commentators were quite fair and said that if a player is trying to back their way through the defense, there's not much alternative for the defender than to try to bring him down on his back. It's very easy to accidentally cause a crusher tackle in this case.

He's already been charged and will miss 2 games, only 1 if he takes the early guilty plea though. We're gonna have absolutely no forwards next week so not a chance Peachey gets dropped

only memory is that peats didn’t look up to it, and Tanah looked promising, decent ball movement and very energetic in defence.

How good is Tanah going? Haven’t thought that much of him to date but that ball for Stone was special and then the kick. Imagine Fifita running lines off that.

As an aside — I’m watching on Fox and the commentator keeps saying pronouncing it Foe-garty instead of Fog-arty. Like nails on a chalk board.
That's how his name is pronounced, the commentators mentioned he corrected them.

Watched the replay last night after skimming through some comments here first. Not much to add apart from the fact that Stone didn’t make a dominant tackle the whole game. We got absolutely torn apart by their big mobile forwards with only Mo, Joliffe and Hipgrave there to stop them.

Neither Stone or Whitbread are ever going to be NRL standard imo. They are both too small and lack any real footwork or physicality.
