Titans help Rebels with a cause.

The Gold Coast Titans has answered the call from Australian Rugby League Chief Executive Geoff Carr to lend some coaching support to the South Grafton Rebels playing in the Northern Rivers competition after the team lost its coach Ray Mercy because of work commitments last week.

Titans Head Coach John Cartwright, Football Manager Scott Sattler and Development and Coaching Manager Gavin Judd will all pitch in over the next fortnight taking 2 sessions a week while a new coach is found.

Cartwright said, ?They?re obviously in a trouble and hopefully we can provide some help to them to tied them over. It?s a strong rugby league area in our catchment and while we had the time we wanted to just help them out?

Sattler will take the team for a session next week and said, ?They are still in the trial period and we?re only too happy to lend support. To have an NRL coach coaching them is probably something you would never see happen anywhere and it should draw profile to the team and hopefully flush out a prospective coach to take the reigns.?

The Rebels are pleased by the support they?ve received since the news of their departing coach said club President Janita Cooper. ?We have been overwhelmed by the interest this has generated and to have the support from the Titans is so great for the whole Clarence Valley. It will give the players an extra boost of confidence to have John Cartwright and his staff involved with the team and I will never forget the facial expressions when we announced this to the team ? it was priceless.?

This afternoon?s session will be taken by Cartwright and Judd at JJ Lawrence Field Ryan Street South Grafton at 5:30pm New South Wales Time. All media are welcome to this session.

This is nothing out of the ordinary for the Titans boys, take note other NRL teams.

Nice work - but do give you the drum - the Rebels look like folding due to lack ofsenior numbers. The have a strong junior base but not the seniors.

Sth.Grafton are one of two clubs in Grafton - a city barely not really big enough to support both of them. The only thing keeping them both alive is the league culture of the place.

Hopefully this will attract some players back to the club, as they face quality opposition in the NRRRL.

Maybe the juniors can remain separate, but the seniors merge to make the 1 team a super power. This may not feasable, but worth a look i think.

Definately - though there is a great rivalry between the Grafton Ghosts and the Rebels.
