TWO of the Gold Coast’s best ever halfback talents are set to continue their schoolboy rivalry into a potential battle for the coveted Brisbane Broncos No.7 jersey.

Tanah Boyd, 18, has long been touted as a future star.

Last year, he guided Keebra Park to the NRL Schoolboy Cup national championship before graduating into the Brisbane NRL system.

He spent 2018 playing at various levels for Souths Logan Magpies, including a brace of Intrust Super Cup appearances.

Also in the Broncos’ production line is Tom Dearden, who comes from the archrival of Boyd’s Keebra Park, Palm Beach Currumbin.

Dearden, 17, captained the Reds to national championship glory this year, earning the Peter Sterling Medal along the way for his playmaking prowess.

He is now in the United Kingdom on tour with the Australian Schoolboys and will next year follow in Boyd’s footsteps on the development pathway.

The Broncos have not had a superstar halfback since Allan Langer (right) retired in 2002 – but they could have two future ones on their hands at a time when the club is undergoing a facelift led by Anthony Seibold’s replacement of long-time coach Wayne Bennett.

“It’s a competitive sport … challenging against each other you are going to get the best out of them,” said Keebra coach Glen Campbell.

“You’ll see no doubt both of those boys will get to the NRL somewhere, whether it be the Broncos or somewhere else.”

PBC mentor Aaron Zimmerle said both teens had plenty of assets going for them. “I don’t know Tanah that personally but I just see how meticulously he prepares, how physically fit he is,” Zimmerle said.

“He’s someone that is professional already even if not by definition of how much he earns but just by the way he approaches the game and Tommy is exactly that.

“Tommy is a perfectionist. His greatest gift is he just strives to be better at everything he does.

“The thing I think that is so exciting is the halves are key to any team’s success and there is a steady pathway of halves that go on to the NRL but there’s only a few that become the elite halves.

“There is only probably four or five that can win you an NRL premiership and Cooper Cronk proved that last year.

THE Gold Coast Titans links with schoolboys rugby league powerhouses Palm Beach Currumbin and Keebra Park State High Schools is set to further strengthen the city's ability to provide a conveyor belt of talent to the State of Origin arena.

The Titans officially signed new deals with both schools last week and with a host of players, including AJ Brimson, Jai Arrow, Moeaki Fotuaika, Darius Boyd and Ben Hannant all playing in the interstate series, they are likely to see more reach the top level.

Here are 10 Gold Coast talents to watch in the future.

Willison has been a dominant force on the school circuit but missed out on a Queensland jumper in 2019 due to injury. His athleticism is remarkable for the position with endurance to match the power generated by those long legs.

Adamson was selected in the Queensland under-18 squad in 2019 and has a bright representative future. His playmaking ability is rapidly catching up to his strong defence.

RYAN RIVETT – FIVE-EIGHTH, PALM BEACH-CURRUMBIN SHS CLASS OF 2020

Picture Alfie Langer in a bigger body. Whether Rivett reaches those illustrious heights remains to be seen but good judges have been impressed by organisational skills in the meantime. Rivett was stuck behind young Titan Toby Sexton last year but broke out of his shadow in 2020 as a selection in Queensland's schoolboy team of the season.

TYRONE GUNN-JAMES – LOCK, KEEBRA PARK SHS CLASS OF 2020

One of the star’s of Kirwan State High School’s Payne Cup and national title-winning side, Gunn-James moved south to Keebra to further his football. His outstanding defence was an asset as Keebra reached the Langer Cup final.

FLYNN DANIEL – EDGE, PALM BEACH-CURRUMBIN SHS CLASS OF 2020

Daniel injects chaos onto the right edge, with a potent combination of size and an ability to pick out uncomfortable running lines to stress defenders. A strong skill base contributes to a productive offloading game as well. His season was cruelled by an ACL injury in 2020 but Daniel will be back in 2021.

DAMON SOMERVILLE – CENTRE, PALM EACH-CURRUMBIN SHS CLASS OF 2020

Somerville represented the Queensland under-15s in 2018 and has only grown as a strong, dynamic ball-carrier. His agility and footwork match well with his physicality to provide a well-rounded attacking presence in the wider channels. Palm Beach Currumbin sorely missed their skipper (ACL) in the Phil Hall Cup state schoolboy final.

TREY PENI – OUTSIDE BACK, KEEBRA PARK SHS CLASS OF 2020

Peni is the incumbent Queensland Schools winger from 2019 and would have pushed for the start in the Australian team in 2020. Peni has blossomed at Keebra since making the move from Western Australia to test himself in their system, and was rewarded with the captaincy when Sioasi Tonga went down.

Tekani left the GPS rugby system this year to pursue his rugby league dream.

He has some pedigree in the sport, having represented the Queensland Under-16s in previous seasons.

He will lead a hungry Keebra Park backline in 2021.

The Canberra Raiders pounced on Savage not long after he set the all-time State under-16 100-metre record with a blazing 10.5. The incumbent Queensland winger so would have expected to feature again in 2020 with a future Queensland jersey in the Cairns product's sights.

The younger brother of Payne Haas isn’t built the same as his Broncos star sibling but the footballing ability is just as strong. Klese is rangier, with speed and a similarly massive engine. He’s the fourth of 10 Haas children so you know he’s learned how to tackle.

I read that Blake Mozer from Keebra in the article is said to be the “ premier “ No.9 in the competition but the article goes on to say the Weaver and Bryant have the best combination in the competition. It says that Mozer is Broncos contracted. How long has he been Broncos contracted ?

Mozer has been with Broncos since he was old enough to sign a contract. I think he's better than Bryant personally but they're a different style of player.

Bryant & Weaver have the best combination because they have been playing footy together since they were babies.

Will be a good match this afternoon. PBC will be out for redemption.
