Awesome - This is something I like betting on - but have always wanted to own Greys!!

How would you advise someone who wants to become involved?

HodgoBerro
13-03-06, 04:14 PM
ok what i know is that if you want to own a racing greyhound must contact your GRA (the one in brisbane is in Amy St albion) you must get an application for a owners licence which is i think $58 each year.

this is a 3/4 week wait as they check criminal records and so forth

you can then join syndicates or apply to train your own greyhounds.

to 'adopt' a retired greyhound its a little different, we've never done the GAP program with our dogs, usually when their racing career is through they are pretty much put out to greener pastures

my family are pretty much against euthanasing our dogs for no apparent reason

I'm involved in the Greyhound Adoption Program. Last year I used to volunteer nearly one day a week for G.A.P. I love the dogs, the program and the people.

For anyone who wants to see some greyhounds, check them out at the pet and animal expo.

Dates - 17 - 19 March
Times - Friday 10 - 5, Sat & Sun 10 - 5.30
Place - Brisbane Convention Centre South Brisbane

I'll have a few dogs racing soon, got the papers back.

In my family we have about 20 greyhounds of various ages. Most retired. Greyhounds get treated better than humans in our family.

Greyhounds are the light of my life.

Maybe in the future we can see a challenge between the Titans and Broncos in greyhound form, in the tradition of Lions v Broncos and the greyhound State of Origin. Titans v Broncos, run at the Gold Coast and Brisbane race courses.

how du volunteer?

how du volunteer?

Well I just got in contact with Kirsty O'Brien kirsty@greyhoundpets.org.au and asked.

There is a heap of things you can do.

I used to do the weekly meat run to foster carers, which I don't have to do anymore because our meat company now delivers to Ipswich. Also transport dogs to vets and foster carers.

I also turned up to a good few of their appearances at fetes and shows, which is definitely the fun part, showing off the greyhounds and how fantastic they are to the virgin public.

You aren't just promoting GAP but greyhounds as a whole.

Many other people help out other ways, the GRA finances the operation, vets, food and vet products companies donate their time, service and product or at a fantastic discount.

Owners donate/provide kennels or transport for dogs in the program.

And the foster carers are usually ordinary people who look after a dog for a few weeks to get them used to life as a pet, certainly the life blood of the program and great people.

You could also attend fetes and shows with your favourite greyhound and share them with the public.

You should try and catch up with GAP over the time the pet and animal expo is on. Catch up with them and say g'day, they'll answer all your questions.

They'll be delighted to meet you.

Check out the GAP website. http://www.greyhoundpets.org.au/
I'm not rostered on, but I'll make an appearance one or two days.

I reckon Diehard has an excellant idea about the Broncos & Titans greyhound race. Imagine seeing Darren Lockyer & Preston Cambell running around a track chasing a rabbit. What a great idea. LOL. I think Preston would win. :win: :win: :win:

What is the cost in buying, maintaining, racing (with trainer costs) etc. a grey hound over a year approximately?

HodgoBerro
15-03-06, 10:09 AM
you can't just give a greyhound pal...

including the best meat, attitives (that includes feramo, iron, calcium, vitamin e, etc), science diet, milk, eggs

you're looking at about 5 grand at the least.

i'm really interested in taking one of my brood girls for a pet fete - can you give her a buzz to see if its appropriate?

Is most Lee one of your as well?

Most Lee and Cyclonic Lee are ours
we sold Convincing Lee last year for 50 grand

at the present time the one's that we have are 'racing' (racing meaning some of them are injured) are

Most Lee
Cyclonic Lee
Ebb's Ebony
Its Academic (actually Helen Ivers' dog)

we sold Convincing Lee last year for 50 grand

we were actually the people who started the 'Lee' thing if you didn't know

Most Lee come 7th last night - i wasn't expecting much since she did have a 238 day lay off with a hip injury

Cylconic Lee - running at wentworth park on monday in the Magic maiden qualys - non tab so you can't bet on him

Steve Dangerous
31-03-06, 04:57 PM
never taken any interest, myself. probably because i'm not a betting man.

HodgoBerro
31-03-06, 05:02 PM
i don't bet but i know that greyhound racing is worth a lot of money

okay i'm not the richest person out but because of the dogs we are pretty well off

DIEHARD
31-03-06, 06:20 PM
I'm a betting man and I love to bet on the dogs. In fact it is all I bet on besides rugby league.

I can't believe you guys came up with the LEE suffix, I always wondered who was responsible!

We'll have a few dogs running around in a few weeks, just finalising the names.

Love the dogs.

HodgoBerro
03-04-06, 06:38 PM
yeah it was us...

what happened was we put in 3 names and they were

Convincing Lee
Most Lee
Distinct Lee

Convincing Lee - no introductions to him we sold him last year and have heard he might be back on the track

Most Lee - had a start on Thursday after a 236 day lay off - has had a niggling hip injury that has plagued her career - i think dad said that if it goes again - she's retiring.

Distinct Lee - we sent to someone to be trained - however he suffered a serious back injury and had to be put down...

DIEHARD
03-04-06, 08:15 PM
Do you yourself get to the track much HodgoBerro?

HodgoBerro
03-04-06, 08:21 PM
i only go to the trials these days

the last time i went to the track was at albion park on the 26th of November 2004 and i saw brett seymour and justin hodges there and they recognised me...

we have a 'murphys law' thing with our dogs - everytime we as a family go the dog does no good.

HodgoBerro
04-04-06, 02:53 PM
Cyclonic Lee won his heat and will be in the semi final next week

fingers crossed.

HodgoBerro
10-04-06, 12:50 PM
Cyclonic Lee is in at Wentworth Park tonight Race 4 Box 7 (8:30pm AEST)

he's drawn the seven which could be the problem - he's an inside dog
however he's quick early (did a first section at 5.47 - which is flying)
hopefully he can get inside and get on the rail at the 1st bend.

fingers crossed he's been hot dogged in at 2nd.

DIEHARD
10-04-06, 03:43 PM

Capalaba is a great track, I should get down there more often.

Albion is my usual haunt though.

I got the names of some of my dogs back. Tell you more about them another time. But I got all my first choices, so I'm very happy.

HodgoBerro
24-04-06, 04:11 PM
looking forward to it....

never asked before whats the breeding of your dogs?

should get the name of our second brett lee x jeanies queen pup back soon...

we sold the other 2 for $5000 each to a guy in christchurch NZ

HodgoBerro
26-04-06, 02:38 PM
hey dad's decided not to nominate any of our dogs this week for capalaba - he went to the physio with them and have discovered they all had torn muscles - bit of a shame but thats racing

DIEHARD
26-04-06, 04:34 PM
November Ghandi x Susie Rythum = 7 dogs

November Fury x Whirlpool Sal = 2 *****es, 3 dogs.

looking forward to delivering some History Lesson x Lady Keros in a few weeks if she's in pup!

Shame about the last births we've had they've all ended up C-Sections!

dad's nominating one of our brett lee x jeanies queen dogs (still waiting on name) in the eric thompson next sunday...

fingers crossed - he has so many traits about him that are similar to convincing lee its starting to freak me out a little.

NO REST FOR MR RAUDONIKIS

Vastly improved Queensland galloper Mr Raudonikis will back up in Sydney on Wednesday week in the heats of the Peter Mosman Classic at Wentworth Park.

But first the son of Elite State-Quicksilver Sal has a date with destiny when he lines up in the Group 1 Maturity (525m) at The Meadows on Saturday night.

Owner-trainer Lee Elgood is ecstatic at the improvement in the dog and his chances on Saturday night.

?I came home from Melbourne with the flu and a Group 1 contender,? he said. ?I?m quietly confident he can win because he has drawn exactly where I wanted him.

?He came from last early in the semi-final and gave Collapse 12 lengths start and ran him to a head.

?They paid $50,000 for Collapse a few weeks ago. I paid $1500 for my bloke as a pup.?

The first person on the phone to congratulate Elgood was rugby league legend Tommy Raudonikis after who the dog was named.

?Those Victorians and their silly AFL ? they could not pronounce Tommy?s name when it came to the box draw last Saturday night. My daughter Mia soon put ?em right. He?s a legend.

?And Tommy?s wrapped. Both of us have backed him pre-race at very big odds,? said Elgood.

?I got 200-1 early in the series and Tommy jumped on at 50-1. He?s now down to $13 on Sportsbet in Queensland,? said Elgood.

?But we have only backed him straight out. Where we come from at Wests it?s all or nothing.?

Elgood could not have been happier with the way his dog pulled up after the semi-final performance. ?He was ready to go again on Sunday morning,? he said.

?He only has to be a half length closer in the final and he can win. The three box is exactly where I wanted him to draw.?

Elgood rates hotpot Train A Journey the dog to beat.

?But he?s come off the inside every time in the series,? said Elgood. ?He?ll know he?s got something chasing him this week.?

Anyone see Rove last night. Where they got a bloke to do a lap of Albion Park Greyhounds, Brisbane, even crawling out of the boxes?

That would be a mean feat!

I thought it was hilarious and I want to give it a go.

The bloke looked like a greyhound as well, really lives up to his nickname. haha

And let's not forget Fred Basset coming to Albion Park and sweeping all before him, winning his race!

good to see i found this thread. some news on our puppies!

ginger legs is heavily in pup to surf lorian she is due this friday

we sold jeanies queen for 8 grand to sue smith in vic. she had a litter to pure octane in march and sold 2 for 5000 each. sue has given "jessie" back for free as they have made a profit out of her - she will be back tomorrow

our hallucinate x ginger legs pups (im willing to palm off a noisy girl!) are doing very well and we have got back 2 names

jeanies queen is getting "served" by surf lorian (its really a frozen semen inplant) next week. some pretty nice pups there but she went to pure octane in jan. when we didnt have her. i wished we had one of them.

i must say a huge effort to bonnie goes out. this was her first natural delivery after 2 prior c - sections. and the vet said she'd never deliver naturally as she has a narrow birth canal.

BRONCOS SALVAGE THEIR SEASON

FOUR members of the Brisbane Broncos rugby league team went some way to salvaging their 2007 season at the Gold Coast today.

Shaun and Barry Berrigan, Toni Carroll and Casey Maguire are the proud owners of Miss Southerly who made a winning debut at the Gold Coast today.
She is a daughter of Elite State-Call Collect and was bought by the four-man syndicate when a pup from breeder Kaye Thrupp.

The b itch ran 23.10 to win a maiden heat and will back up next week in the final.

The Berrigan brothers also have shares with a couple of other Broncos in a Pure Octane-Delicate Lee pup also bought from the Thrupps.

DIEHARD
18-10-07, 09:57 PM
Unfortunately due to EI the GRAQ has cut a lot of funding. The QDOG payments are part of this, for the time being they are gone.

Unplaced prize money is gone at all TAB Tracks.... which is a joke because those are the dogs and the people we should strive to keep in the game and survive on a small margin or do it for the love of the game.

Take it off class 1 and group 1s as far as I am concerned. Stripping unplaced prize money is a disgrace.

The Brisbane club says there wont be any immediate changes in prize money at their track so possibly they will use some of their reserves to hold off any cuts.

It's devastating news and I'm furious about it. Most of my fury is directed at the selfish horse industries.

Terrrible news about chuck, he is one of my favourite dogs!

Get better soon Chuck!

Betfair would cause long-term pain: Greyhound Racing

November 1, 2007

The greyhound racing industry says any plans to allow online betting exchange Betfair to have a presence in NSW would create ongoing financial pain.

The NSW Government has said it is looking at amending regulations which prevent interstate gambling operations, such as Betfair, advertising and trading in NSW.

Premier Morris Iemma has admitted talking on a few occasions to James Packer, who is a 50 per cent owner of the exchange, in relation to proposals.

Greyhound Racing NSW today joined Racing NSW in saying it was alarmed that it had not been consulted about the move.

"The equine influenza outbreak has already led to the greyhound industry losing over $1.2 million in revenue, with this figure expected to climb above $2 million by its end," Greyhound Racing NSW chairman Professor Percy Allan said.

"What is reportedly being considered by the Premier and his Racing Minister will cause much greater financial pain, but on an ongoing basis."

Professor Allan also said it was not the NSW Government's right to be selling the racing industry's core product.

hey all long time no write (work work work!) anyway my dad has now moved to Victoria to a place around 30kms outside of Ararat called Crowlands (If you wanted to get any closer to Woop Woop - this is it)

Unfortunately in the last few months we have had some setbacks including the passing of the great Jeanie's Queen to kidney failure. She was a very well loved animal and is sorely missed.

Dad said that one of the broodies, Ruby/Tricky Time is in pup to Kiowa Sweet Trey (US) as the vet services are very limited out his way now (No Dr. Phil Thomas now!) they said possibly 8/9 pups as they couldn't tell with their ultrasound.

She is due sometime this week.

Unfortunately due to work and I'm on overtime till next week - I'm not sure when I'll be on next but will tell you asap.
