Andrew Vela was contracted to us as a 16 year old, he has some sort of chance to still get to the NRL.

I see a few Titan's 20's boys from 2014 there in Connor Broadhurst, Jaiden Hawkes and Caleb Morehu.

Siuatonga Likiliki also still hanging around, Khan Ahwang too.

I think that is Jack Goodsell there too...prolific try scorer for Roosters U20's last year.

Great Win by Burleigh Colts and they have 12 Titan 20s in Team, and will definitely keep the Top NYC 17 in their toes, as some very good 20s players in Burleigh & also Tweed Colts.

On the team list I counted 4 not with Titans - Talor Walters and Jack Cook only ones in starting 13. Then Kyle Kalkohven and Dylan Pelo on bench. But agree that if they perform well then the current Titans 20s will be on notice to perform or be replaced. Good thing in my opinion

Titans' Ioane stars for Burleigh Bears
Sun 19 Apr, 2015, 9:00pm By Matt Harris, Queensland Correspondent, NRL.com (http://www.nrl.com/titans-ioane-stars-for-burleigh-bears/tabid/10874/newsid/85517/default.aspx)

http://www.nrl.com/image.ashx?src=/Portals/NRL/images/41/41261_39_2.jpg&cn=620x349

Burleigh prop Mark Ioane may find it difficult squeezing his way into an in-form Gold Coast Titans side at the moment but based on his performance in Burleigh's 28-18 win over Ipswich he won't be far from coach Neil Henry's thoughts.

The 24-year-old scored one try and set up another – terrorising Origin veteran Chris Walker with a series of barnstorming runs – during a devastating spell for the Bears midway through the second half of their Round 7 Intrust Super Cup clash at North Ipswich Reserve.

Ioane has 20 NRL appearances under his belt and last featured for the Titans in their 40-0 hiding at the hands of the Panthers in Round 2.

However, based on Sunday's outing against the Jets the Auckland-born enforcer could be trading Burleigh's Pizzey Park for Cbus Super Stadium in the coming weeks.

Former Penrith centre and current Titans squad member Brad Tighe also crossed the try-line for the Bears, who moved to sixth on the ladder on eight competition points with the Jets fourth on 10 points.

Trailing 16-6 at half-time, the Bears crossed seven minutes into the second stanza through young centre Connor Broadhurst before Marmin Barba eased the pressure on the Jets with a penalty goal to take the score to 18-10 after 54 minutes.

The Jets began to run out of fuel at this stage of the contest – the result of making 50 more tackles than their opponents – and soon conceded their third try when Ioane bullocked his way over Walker and company to have the Bears within two points of the hosts.

Despite some desperate Ipswich defence, sustained pressure on the Jets' line soon took its toll when Tighe crossed out wide and fullback Tyler Chadburn converted to see Burleigh hit the front 22-18 with 11 minutes to go.

Poor ball control cost the Jets inside the final 10 minutes and the Bears eventually sealed the result when Ioane sent skipper Darren Griffiths over under the posts for a 28-18 victory.

The only sour note for the Bears were injuries to halves Ryley Jacks and Todd Seymour with the latter stretchered off seven minutes from full-time with a knee injury.

In other results, Easts Tigers moved to second on the ladder with 50-point thrashing of Central Queensland in coach Jason Hetherington's final match in charge of the Capras.

The former Queensland hooker, who played eight games for the Maroons from 1998 to 2000, is stepping down from his role due to personal reasons with assistant Lionel Harbin set to take the reins in an interim capacity.

Saturday's other results saw the Northern Pride win their second game in a row after trouncing Norths Devils 42-10 with Javid Bowen bagging a hat-trick, while the Wynnum Manly Seagulls defeated Sunshine Coast Falcons 23-10 at Pinklands Sports Complex.

Townsville's 40-10 victory over Redcliffe keeps them outright competition leaders on 12 points with third-placed Mackay Cutters (10 points) unable to capitalise due to their 26-24 loss against the PNG Hunters, who managed to snap their two-game losing streak at home in Kokopo.

Tweed Heads Seagulls handed Souths Logan Magpies their fourth-straight loss with a 24-0 win at Piggabeen Sports in the final match of Round 7.

Burleigh Bears 28 (Brad Tighe, Connor Broadhurst, Mark Ioane, Jason Chan, Darren Griffiths tries; Tyler Chadburn 4 goals) def. Ipswich Jets 18 (Marmin Barba 2, Carlin Anderson tries; Barba 2, Anderson goals) at North Ipswich Reserve. Half-time: Jets 16-6. Man of the Match: Jason Chan.

Three tries from the Schwass brothers were not enough to help Burleigh to an upset win over the PNG Hunters, going down 44-24 in Port Moresby on Sunday.

With the Hunters holding an imposing home ground record, it was always going to be a tough ask for the visiting Bears side. PNG showed why they are sitting second on the ladder, running in the first three tries of the game to take an early 16-0 lead. Burleigh didn’t roll over, bouncing back with two tries in ten minutes before the Hunters scored again just before half-time to go into the break with a 20-12 lead.

Young Titans playmaker Daniel Schwass, in his second game for the Bears after impressing in the Gold Training under-20s side this season, said the Bears paid the price for a slow start, having to claw their way back in front of a big home crowd.

“We started the game slow and gave them too much ball and they capitlised on that,” Schwass said.

“They got out to a 16-0 lead, but we fought back to 16-12 until they scored right on half-time which was disappointing.”

In a replica of the first half, PNG came out and scored the first three tries of the second 40 minutes, only for the Bears to quickly reply with two converted tries of the their own to bring the margin to just 14 points. The Hunters put the game to bed in the 76th minute when Timothy Lomai crossed to finish the game at 44-24.

With a big home crowd and a unique playing style, Schwass said it was a tough trip but a great experience.

“They scored in patches where they had 10 minute periods of dominating us, but we didn’t just roll over,” he said.

“They play up the middle and out wide, they can do it all. It’s a different style and hard to defend against because they are a quality side. It’s a great atmosphere up there though with a big crowd, it was a great experience even though we didn’t get the win.”

Having recently stepped up from the under-20s to Intrust Super Cup, Schwass said he enjoyed testing himself against in the bigger bodies, with Daniel and his twin brother Hayden accounting for three of the Bears’ four tries.

“I like playing for Burleigh, it’s a step up from under-20s and a lot tougher playing against men, but it’s a good challenge and one that I enjoy,” he said.

“I put a kick through for our other half, and then somehow the ball bounced my way again and I was just lucky to be in the right spot so I just picked it up and pinned the ears back. It was nice to score a try at that level, Hayden got two as well so that was good.”

Kevin Gordon and Jamie Dowling both played in the loss, combining out wide for the full 80 minutes.

Tweed Heads finished their season on a good note, running out comprehensive 40-22 winners over Norths Devils at Bishop Park on Sunday.

It was the first 40 minutes that set up the win, the Seagulls running out to a 28-6 half-time lead to make a second-half Devils comeback highly unlikely. It was an impressive team performance by Tweed Heads with seven players scoring tries the line in their final game of the year, including Titans back-rower Jai Ingram.

The Devils bounced back in the second half, scoring back-to-back tries with Bronco Dale Copley involved in both. The Seagulls quickly responded with two tries of their own, taking them out to a 40-16 lead to put the game to bed.

Titans winger Leva Li was dangerous on his wing, while playmaker Jamal Fogarty had a hand in numerous tries, causing plenty of headaches for the Norths defence, and scored six goals. Youngster Tevita Folau was lively off the bench, providing some strong carries for the Seagulls.

The win has the Seagulls finish in tenth position for season 2015, giving coach Aaron Zimmerle plenty of optimism heading into next year.

“I’m a little bit excited,” he said. “Will Budgen is 21, Sam Meskell and Sam Saville are 23. We’ve got a few 20 and 21 year-olds. We’ve got veterans like James Wood and Nat Barnes who’ve hinted they’ll go around again.”

TWEED HEADS SEAGULLS 40 (Ali Grant, James Wood, Shaun Carney, Jai Ingram, Sam Saville, Ricardo Parata, Shane Gillham tries; Jamal Fogarty 6 goals) def NORTHS DEVILS 22 (Michael Lucas 2, Rogan Dean, Matt Mizzi tries; Liam Tyson 3 goals) at Bishop Park.

Tweed Heads Seagulls: 1. Ali Grant 2. Nathanael Barnes 3. James Wood (c) 4. Shaun Carney 5. Leva Li 6. Jamal Fogarty 7. Sam Foster 8. Will Bugden 9. Sam Meskell 18. Jarrod Morfett 11. Jai Ingram 12. Blake Anderson 13. Sam Saville 14. Ricardo Parata 15. Shane Gillham 16. Dane Clarke 17. Tevita Folau

I watched some of the game and Burleigh made a lot of unforced errors to start game. Simple drop balls and kicking out on full etc. Inexpected better from that side especially with the side they had out there.

This game could've been anything on the scoreboard , when the Bears lead 30-0 it looked like a blow out was on the cards but there was a cyclonic wind behind Northside in the 2nd half & the Bears kicked off & didn't get a single set in the 2nd half for the 1st 15 minutes of play & when they finally got the ball it was 30-24 before they kicked a penalty goal & scored a late try.

Schwassy made a great try saving 1 on 1 tackle on his own try line against the biggest bloke on the park in the 1st half & set up a couple try's , when Deacon came on I thought he made a massive difference & scored a nice solo try , good games from Grant & Swifty..

They will need to improve to beat Wynnum but I'll be there to yell at the if they don't

Congrats to them and a fantastic season of record breaking proportion. Many have played senior footy whether in A Grade or woth QCup.

Wish them all the best in their future and no doubt the Storm will be happy with the 5 they have picked up for next year as well as Jenan to the doggies (from what ive heard).
