Youtube is becoming a haven for collaborating footage of players and there are some excellent videos of current Titans players, as well as some of our new recruits. I know these have been scattered throughout the SS & R thread, however it's going to be easier to view these if they are all in one place. By all means continue to post these in the SS & R thread, however if you ever need to refer back to them or simply want to kill some time with some footy highlights then this is the thread to do it.

I'll take it upon myself to update this with any highlights posted in other threads to bring them here as well for your viewing pleasure.

agreed. what do we really lose by playing him over mortimer? we gain so much, and it looks like we dont lose any defense really. especially since morts has been average in defence despite his tenacity and willingness.

Man! I can't believe the board offered Elgey very late on a piddly one year deal. The board needs to sign him to a good deal now. With due respect to Mortimer, Elgey should be getting a run in grade very soon, and persisted with. What talent!

Thanks for posting this HS. I've re-watched many, many times already. For my own sake, as much as anybody else's... I thought I'd do a little bit of video analysis for fun.

Disclaimer: I am aware that it is more or less arbitrary to analyse a highlights reel of a player, especially one as young as GL. There is simply too much all together left out of the clip for any kind of meaningful conclusion to be reached. I reiterate, this is just for fun, and is something a lot of NFL fans do over at r/NFL (reddit) for no purpose other than to stimulate discussion and negate boredom during pre-season/bye weeks!

Things I like:

- The upper and lower body strength to bump off and break through would be tackles [@3:57 (https://youtu.be/6NnOS1FaC-w?t=232); @9:50 (https://youtu.be/6NnOS1FaC-w?t=239)], push for meters after contact [@3:11 (https://youtu.be/6NnOS1FaC-w?t=191)] and turn half holes into full-blown open field breaks [@2:21 (https://youtu.be/6NnOS1FaC-w?t=141)] is very good.
- Ability to fend with both right arm [@00:21 (https://youtu.be/6NnOS1FaC-w?t=21)] and left arm [@2:38 (https://youtu.be/6NnOS1FaC-w?t=148)].
- His speed looks around average for an outside back of his build, however what he lacks in blistering top gear pace, he makes up for with explosive acceleration [@2:07 (https://youtu.be/6NnOS1FaC-w?t=127); @2:41 (https://youtu.be/6NnOS1FaC-w?t=158); @4:24 (https://youtu.be/6NnOS1FaC-w?t=264)].
- With this limited footage, it's easy to assume that GL is a predominantly direct runnner of the ball, who likes to square defenders up and go through them, there is enough to suggest that he is equally adept at either floating to the outside when the line is sliding [@ 2:37 (https://youtu.be/6NnOS1FaC-w?t=157)], or change it up and swerve while accelerating passed approaching edge defence that shoots out of the line [@5:12 (https://youtu.be/6NnOS1FaC-w?t=312)]. So pretty to watch
- His footwork is perhaps his most impressive attribute. What an ars3nal.

* Left foot

* Benji skip-step [@1:00 (https://youtu.be/6NnOS1FaC-w?t=38)] and the odd Karmichael jump-step for good measure [@7:42 (https://youtu.be/6NnOS1FaC-w?t=462)]... He can turn blokes inside out on a dime.

For me, what is perhaps most impressive, is his ability to utilise his wide array of skills just as adeptly on both sides of the field (as seen in the stunning plays @7:58 (https://youtu.be/6NnOS1FaC-w?t=478) and @8:12 (https://youtu.be/6NnOS1FaC-w?t=492))


Things that need work:

- His ball security [@3:04 (https://youtu.be/6NnOS1FaC-w?t=184); @ 3:53 (https://youtu.be/6NnOS1FaC-w?t=233); @08:41 (https://youtu.be/6NnOS1FaC-w?t=521)]. Quite a few dropped/stripped balls in this highlights video and while it's hard to tell how many of these errors come down to his handling - he can be sure that oppositions will test him on this facet of his game with increasing levels of aggression/gamesmanship at each step up towards first grade.
- His offloads. Again, love the urgency in his game and his willingness to extend the play. His ability to get an arm free is exceptional, but as you can see in the tape, many of his offloads go wide of the mark. Hopefully this part of his game is refined rather than coached out of him.
- Passing game. While there clearly is a nice pass in him [@7:22 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NnOS1FaC-w&feature=youtu.be)], GL is obviously a run-first guy, which I love. That said, there is evidence to suggest that some opportunities go begging due to this tendency [massive un-utilised overlap at @7:54 (https://youtu.be/6NnOS1FaC-w?t=473)]. With the amount of defenders he draws to him on every play, I hope he is already working on a nice short pass at the line, and watching guys like Hodges to learn how to line-up his outside men.
- "Hero ball". So called for the (usually young) NFL QB prospects who jump to the low-percentage, hail-mary long-pass without considering all options first. Greg looks to want to score on EVERY play. His sometimes wild offloads, reticence to pass, (and one unsure kick) indicate a desire to be the guy who puts on the winning play when perhaps sometimes it's not needed. This is not an inherently bad tendency, but is something that can potentially undermine a young player's progress if not managed/coached wisely.

Is he a guaranteed superstar who is ready for the NRL right now? OF COURSE NOT! But based on these clips alone (even taking into account everything they don't show like his defence, motor, fitness, injury history etc etc) ... his ceiling seems extraordinarily high.




* In my mind, Greg's last name sounds like "LEH-LAY ISY-YA-OW" with the 'LELEISIUAO' pronounced similar to the Rooster's TAUKEIAHO - but I'm absolutely guessing, and I'd love to know for sure...

Onya K2G, saved me doing it :) I totally agree and in short think that he is indeed a rare talent who will improve out of sight with some quality coaching. I must admit, some of his team mates weren't too shabby either but suffered a bit from having such a big personality in the team ... that part really needs work.

You can hear Paasi drop an F* bomb in the game audio. He was very upset not to receive the ball, would've scored for sure.

What gave me the most joy from Elgey's contribution in this play, was that it demonstrates his adjustment to the speed of top level NRL. In our Rd 20 thumping by the bronco's, Kane was shutdown all night by big guys flying out of the line and limiting his time ... I was worried about how he'd bounce back from it (and the K.O which ended his night). Plays like this one against the Raiders shows that he is already learning to adapt to being targeted. Love watching him play.

All I have seen over the last month is 6-8 ppl Indian file behind the ruck cramping the hell out of the TV screen, it's terribly chaotic.

Yeah mate. Played for Raiders in the backs. Winger maybe. From Wiki.

Henry was a foundation player of the Raiders, having played for the club from 1982 and 1984 in the lower grades.[citation needed] After a succession of player-coach positions at local clubs in the Canberra competition, he was made coach of the Western Reds' Under 19 team in 1997, before coaching Raiders lower-grade teams between 1999 and 2002.

He played lower grades at canberra in 82. Dont remember if he cracked first grade or not. You'd find more highlights of Annesley refereeing than Henry playing.

Tell me about it. Elgey is insane. Yes, sure he was set up, but the video also shows how good a finisher Don is. That's what you need from your winger.

I cant think of anyone better to have on the wing in our squad currently, until some of the kids come through. He is rock solid and gives us one less problem position while we work out our centres.

Don't forget SL is wayy easier than NRL. I don't think Taia will be a game breaker, solid player perhaps.

Two good buys, thanks for the vids champ, they have showed alot of good play in these two players. Especially Taia, very strong, athletic and rather fast. Our foward pack is looking pretty good. Taia has also played centre in the past so he could be a later fill in for that role but our squad isn't looking half bad.

Definitely. 2 very good pick ups in my opinion. Im surprised how strong and fast Taia is even at his age of 31. McQueen will be good too hopefully. Expect more vids to come, maybe a Friendy :)

true. But from what has been seen in the small amounts of preseason content we have been given you can see the effort is there. Especially birdy, he is looking very fit and hopefully can play a whole season with us. I wouldn't write us off like others have because on our day we have very good forwards who can lay the platform for our rather young halves. If we can get a strike centre similar to roberts to finish off our plays I think we would be reasonably well off.

Heres a Catalan Dragons fans opinion on Zeb Taia on reddit- "My player of the year from last year. Got injured towards the back end of the year but my god he was unstoppable until that point. He would have been a strong candidate for man of steel up until that point. Will be sorely missed but hope he does well for the Tits." Hopefully Zeb can be a great recruit for us and replicate what Josh Hodgson did at the Raiders last season.

Mate you've done a great job with that video. You obviously have a lot of talent in that area.

Watching it of course rams home the huge loss that will be felt by Roberts leaving and my further resentment to the people whose actions led to him leaving.

We sure we miss Roberts' speed in attack but we won't miss his dropped balls, defence and sometimes laziness.

Hopefully Nene steps up and has a big year. Hope he has improved his defence because he is an attacking gun.

Geez mate you have been putting a lot of faith in Nene. I thought as the year went on last season he got better but I feel he is way behind where Roberts was and never likely to get to his level. He has a great build to be a top centre so we'll see what this season brings, however I reckon we need two centres, not one.

I agree 100% with you there JunctionBlock. Roberts was a very lazy defender majority of the time and only had a go in attack when he felt like it.
Elgey will be massively missed, but i hope with young Ash next to Tyrone, we can cover for the two losses of not only LG but Sezer too

I think Titan4Life is showing much deserved faith in Nene. He does look to be a star of the future, he may not become as electric as J Rob (few are) but i can see him becoming a big, solid centre that will possibly come close or make an Origin team.

Nenes big striding runs from dummy half eating metres remind me of Justin Hodges.

Its deceptive as he doesn't look to be flying, but all of a sudden he's made 15 metres, and he does it consistently.

Sorry to change the subject again but I reckon Nene will be a top centre. I reckon in 3-5 years he'll be top 5. Big call but he'll get there. Size, speed, those legs that make around 8 metres a stride, if he works hard on his defence then who knows what he could be.
