A BOLD new program set in the heart of the Currumbin Valley is helping young girls navigate their way from adolescence to adulthood.

Former Gold Coast Titans chief executive David May and wife Kortney Olson developed Kamp Konfidence last November to address the pressures that confront young women.

With one in five teenage girls developing depression before adulthood and one in 12 attempting suicide, the statistics were enough to move Mr May and his wife to action.

“The pressures young girls face now are so intense with social media, bullying and body image issues,” Mr May said. “As the parents of a young daughter, we wanted to help.”

The camp runs twice a month as a prevention-based wellness course with fitness, nutrition, body image, boundary setting and self-defence classes.

“It’s all about helping young girls develop frameworks and tools to help them through the difficult years between teenage hood and adulthood,” Mr May said.

Kamp Konfidence has been entered in the Wesley Mission Brisbane Campaign for Change initiative, supported by The Sunday Mail, for the chance to receive $30,000 funding help with its mission.
