NRL's Cowboys re-sign Murray

February 27, 2006 - 1:15PM
North Queensland coach Graham Murray has signed on for another two NRL seasons with the Cowboys.

Murray - who is also the NSW State of Origin coach - ended weeks of speculation over his future when he officially signed on the dotted line on Monday.

Murray - off contract at the end of the season - had become hot property after revitalising the Cowboys since his 2002 arrival.

Since his appointment, Murray has guided the Cowboys to their first finals campaign in 2004 and last year's NRL grand final which they lost to Wests Tigers.

"Graham's retention has been a high priority," Cowboys chairman Laurence Lancini said.

"Graham has played a vital role with the club over the past four years, his knowledge of the game, along with his coaching skills have been of the highest quality.

"His interaction with players, staff, sponsors and the general community is evidence of his commitment to the wellbeing of the club".

Murray has had the Midas touch at his previous first grade clubs Illawarra (1991-95), Hunter (1997), England's Leeds (1997-99) and the Sydney Roosters (2000-01).

He won the 1992 Tooheys Challenge midweek competition with Illawarra, took Super League team Hunter to the 1997 World Club Challenge final, won the 1999 Challenge Cup at English club Leeds (1998-1999) and took the Sydney Roosters to the 2000 NRL grand final.

awesome news. plus, when he's there the players are more likely to re-sign whenever coming off contract.
