Last night i ventured down to Langlands Park at Stones Corner in Brisbane to watch the Ipswich Jets final hitout before the start of the 2006 competition against Easts. The Colts game was an entertaining high quality trial match which ended with Easts hanging on for an 18-14 victory. The Jets dropped the ball with a try on with two minutes to go which would've given them victory but in any case considering it was the boys 2nd game in the space of four days they did the club proud. They look as if they could be in for a good year. The FOGS Cup A grade trial ended with Easts recording a 38-6 victory with Ipswich turning in an embarrassing display which has coach Matt Ralph a little concerned. They just fell off too many tackles & allowed too many off loads while in attack their completion rate was disgusting & made a number of areas in their own 20 metre area which made life rather difficult. The Qld Cup trial ended with Easts recording a 34-8 victory aftrer they led 10-8 at half time. It was a game where Ipswich had their chances but failed to capatalise where Easts took full toll with the opportunities they were given. The Jets have some talent there but need to play for 80 minutes against sides like Easts who will hurt you at every opportunity. Ipswich have a particularly tough start to the Qld Cup with their first month consisting of Burleigh, Redcliffe, Toowoomba & Wynnum, with the side still gellingit certainly won't be easy. If they can happen to win 2/4 to start the season i think they will be well placed. The Jets next game is round 1 of the competition against the Burleigh Bears in all three grades down at Pizzey Park in 2 weeks.
