did anyone here on the channel 9 coverage of the tigers game the commentator saying they are trying to groom mead as a long term fullback with zilly going to the centres ??

Is that why Taka was on the right side so that Zilly will slot into left centre?

Round 22

Roosters V Raiders

Sharks V Knights

Sea Eagles V Warriors

Our immediate competion have a tough gig next round. If we sneak a win against the dogs we go to 7 on the ladder. Yes I hear you...it's the subsequent four rounds that you're worried about. Means we'll play a dispirited Cowboys in Rd 23 and Warriors in 24 whose finals chances might be scuppered...blah, blah, blah I've got to do some real work!

Agreed I'd have the exact same team on the weekend (obviously a few injured) I'd just slot zillman centre as I believe he backed up very well

Titans' backrower Greg Bird won't face suspension if he takes an early guilty plea
NSW star Greg Bird has been slugged with a grade one dangerous contact charge by the NRL match review committee following his high shot on Wests Tigers' Braith Anasta.

The Gold Coast back-rower won't face suspension if he takes the early guilty plea for the incident in the Titans' 36-6 home win on Sunday.

Should he contest the charge in front of the NRL judiciary on Wednesday and lose he would miss one game.

Can't believe this drew any charge at all :nope:

Worth persevering with him but those little bobbles and the lack of a passing game need to be addressed ... an infinitely better option than the "total package". Where was he in that last intercept play?

My question was because I noticed he wasn't a part of the chasing group and of course I would have questioned him if I didn't know where he was but it was a question not a criticism.

I thought he went alright but has a lot to learn. I would still have him before Zillman because he looks ready to play every play.

I'm in the same boat. I love Mead and has been one of our best this years. He looks to be abetter option up the back then Zilly, but Mead's best position is on the wing and we desperately need a quality fullback. In saying that though I'd like to see Mead stay fullback the rest of the year in the hope he can learn the extra qualities needed with a modern day fullback.

The iSelect Gold Coast Titans have today named an unchanged line-up for Monday night’s Round 22 clash against the Bulldogs at ANZ Stadium.

iSelect Titans Coach John Cartwright has elected to stick with the same 17-man squad that ended a four-match losing streak with a dominant 36-6 win over the Wests Tigers at Skilled Park on Sunday.

With playmaker Albert Kelly (sternum) and fullback Will Zillman (groin) still sidelined through injury, Ashley Harrison and David Mead will remain at five-eighth and fullback respectively after performing strongly in the roles against the Tigers.

Monday night’s clash will mark Luke O’Dwyer’s 100th match for the Titans, with the Tweed Heads junior becoming only the ninth player in club history to reach the milestone.

The 30-year-old joins a list that includes Mark Minichiello, Scott Prince, Luke Bailey, Preston Campbell, Anthony Laffranchi, Nathan Friend, William Zillman and Ashley Harrison.

DEFENSIVE specialist Ashley Harrison has been entrusted with patching up the Gold Coast's leaky right side with the Titans needing to fix their weak flank to keep in touch with the NRL top eight.

Harrison was deployed at five-eighth against the Tigers at the weekend as Albert Kelly faces a month on the sidelines with a badly injured sternum.

The former Origin lock's presence was a welcome addition to an area where the Titans have struggled in the past month.

The Gold Coast's right flank has leaked the third most tries in the competition, conceding 21 four-pointers this year, and most of those have come since Jamal Idris' injury.

Opposition teams have targeted the area with great success recently. Harrison didn't look out of place in his first start at pivot in five years against the Tigers at the weekend, registering a try-assist and making 22 tackles without missing one in the 36-6 victory.

''I didn't think Harro would have much trouble,'' coach John Cartwright said.

''He's a laidback character and a very good footballer.

''He drew on all his experience on the weekend, kept a cool head and in the end that's probably what the team needed.''

The combination of Kelly, Idris and David Mead was impressive on the right side earlier this season but has been completely overhauled with Harrison, Brad Takairangi and Anthony Don now defending there.

Don found himself dragged in twice by the Tigers attack on Sunday and he was exposed by Newcastle a month ago when opposite winger James McManus scored four tries.

Monday's clash against Canterbury is crucial to the Gold Coast's finals hopes and Cartwright said they had been working on their defence.

''We certainly have been (working a lot on our defence). You've got to base all your wins around defence,'' he said.

''We lost our confidence in that month with a lot of changes to the side as well.

''They've been working very hard and put a lot of time in the training field and video room to correct things. Defence wins the big games and we'll work on it again.''

The Titans will have an opposed training session tonight against the club's under-20s team. They held a similar session last week for the first time this year in a bid to work on a number of new combinations.

I knew he was close that's why Carty played Mead at FB last week. Finally seeing him at FB and playing well and maybe playing Zillman out of a position. If he would have given him 3 or 4 weeks there would have spelt big trouble for Zillman. Feel for David wanting to play there. If Zillman is fit play him at six. If he can't kick at 5/8 then he shouldn't be on the field. Frustrating.

Titans must lift against Dogs: Bird
Adam Gardini | Sunday 11 August 2013, 10:23 AM

http://staticnrl.sportalhosting.com/site/_content/LeadImage/00088664-leadimage.jpg

iSelect Titans Co-Captain Greg Bird says his side must lift another gear when they take on genuine top-8 contenders the Bulldogs at ANZ Stadium tomorrow night.

The Titans got their season back on track with a 36-6 win over the struggling Wests Tigers on home turf last weekend but face a step-up in class to face the fifth placed Bulldogs tomorrow night.

Bird said while the Tigers victory was a moral boosting result for the side after four straight losses, the Titans must build on that performance if they are to compete against the Bulldogs who have won three matches in a row.

“Getting that win was good for everyone’s mental state but at the same time, they (Tigers) were struggling just as much as us so we can’t take too much from that,'' said Bird.

“We’ve got to replicate that style of performance against one of the top-8 teams.’’

Bird said the Titans were wary of the Bulldogs but were more focussed on getting their own affairs in order ahead of tomorrow night’s clash.

“They’ve got stars all over the paddock and the forward pack alone – they’re a real big squad and once they get going forward, they’ve got the two halves which are probably in career best form at the moment,’’said Bird.

“We’re going to be wary of them but we’ve just got to be focused on what we’re going to do. That was the style of football we played against the Tigers, really focussed on what we do by controlling our own game and our own destiny and we’re taking the same mindset in this week.’’

Bird said the Titans were anticipating greasy conditions at ANZ Stadium tomorrow night and in preparation for the match had trained with soapy wet balls at the team’s final training session at Skilled Park this morning.

“It’s just the greasy conditions at ANZ Stadium, it's always the same down there and I guess they (Bulldogs) are used to it but we are coming off an afternoon game on a pretty fast track,’’ said Bird.

“So it’s just getting it in the guys ahead that it’s going to be a greasy ball and a slippery night.’’

I'm hopeful of causing an upset in this one. Our season is on the line. I don't bet very big but I've thrown a couple of dollars on us at $5.25 and for a half time lead. Let's hope we build on what we started last week and don't make those couple of errors we made early in each half. It's finals time already for us and we'll need to beat the Bulldogs, Warriors and Cowboys at least to get our shot in the 8. All the pundits are writing us off, I reckon we've got a few canons to fire yet.

FRUSTRATED Titans fullback William Zillman may be wrapped in cotton wool for another week and forced to watch his desperate team tackle the Bulldogs from the sideline tonight.

Zillman travelled to Sydney yesterday after having a light training session as he recovers from a groin injury that has so far kept him sidelined for five weeks.

It's likely he will be rested given the short turnaround to Saturday's clash against the Cowboys in Townsville but Titans coach John Cartwright said that he won't make a decision until this afternoon.

"We'll take him down but he's in extreme doubt. In fact, I don't think he'll play," Cartwright said.

"He's not far away but it's probably not the night to make a return from that sort of injury.

"He's very close (to returning) and he's very frustrated. They knew when it happened it was a six-week injury and it's about that now.

"When you take the conditions into account it was a slippery, greasy ground when it happened (in Newcastle) and it's going to be that (tonight).

"If we were desperate we could probably play him but the side went well last week and we've got a short turnaround and a lot of travel going into the Cowboys game. We want some fresh heads coming into the side next week."

David Mead ran at fullback for most of yesterday's session and could rotate with Anthony Don during tonight's game.

Mead had little defensive work to do against the Tigers last weekend but co-captain Greg Bird said he wasn't worried about the Bulldogs targeting the regular winger.

"I don't know whether they can go after a bloke like that. He's a pretty tough character," he said. "He enjoys playing fullback and the way he plays is accustomed to that style."

It's a crucial match for the Titans who are desperate to win to keep in touch with the top eight given their final two matches are away to premiership favourites Sydney Roosters and Melbourne.

A victory would be a massive boost before they face the Cowboys and Cartwright said he wanted his team's destiny to be in their own hands.

"If we can get away with a win against the Dogs it's ours then. They've got to take it from us," he said. "It's going to be a really exciting end to the competition.

"All of a sudden that daunting draw doesn't look so daunting.

"This end of the year is about winning form and if we're playing semi-final football we'll definitely be going in with good form against good sides.

"That's the theory of it. The challenge is there to go and do it."

Mate, I would love to have more faith than what I currently do. But the way the club has functioned for the last few years has stripped most of it away. Big decisions need to made to turn the joint around, otherwise Searle will eventually screw it right up.

Yep, love his metres out of dummy half when he runs it...

He has a kicking game as well, something Srama doesn't seem to have just yet.

Really? I honestly always thought his hand got there. Go meady!!!!!!!

The close up front on angle was amazing , it was a falcon and a Fair dogs Try , the suspect hand was below the ball.

Evened out with the dogs scoring off an Inu forward pass.

I'm as close to Neutral as it gets.

Hate the dogs , like the Tits , but a win hurts my Warriors chances ( the Tits deserve it more so I'm cheering them on ).

Great Game Well done !!!

Ryan Jame's stint in QLD cup has done him the world of good. Hope he keeps up this form for the rest of the year.

That was a gutsy win.

Impossible to pick a poor player in that effort. The only negative for me was our last tackle bombs in the second half which were easily caught without much pressure.

We will beat cowboys more to play for.defiantly make the 8 I think way we playing harro has found his calling better for defence there

O'dwyer, Harrison, Don and Dowling ~ all the guys i was worried about tonight, they were all great.
James was my MotM, even with limited minutes. He dominated the "big scary
doggies pack".
As brilliant as Mead can be on the wing - tonight showed how wasted his potential is out there. Scary to think tonight will probably be the last time we see him play fullback this season. Without Idris and Kelly - Mead is our X factor. If Carty has an ounce of wit, he will find another place for Zillly.

Great Win.

Great game!

Meady was fantastic. 11 runs, 164 metres, 1 try assits, 8 tackle breaks, 2 offloads and 3 line breaks.

Good effort from all though, everyone stepped up tonight.

Wow what a win against the odds. Well done Titans.

Bird was massive, as was Falloon, James and Myles.

Mead ran some fantastic lines and had a great game. I'd now like to see him play the rest of the year there and see how he improves. He really need to improve his passing game.

I thought Falloon did a great job in defensice and controlling the ruck

James again a standout

They played for each other tonight and all deserve a big wrap

So happy we stay alive for another week was a huge win for morale, James, Bird and mead outstanding. My only negative.. We gave away 8 penalties in their 30 when we had them on the ropes. If we stayed disciplined and just muscled up there pack wouldn't have even of got back, plenty of room for improvement. But I'm confidnent we can improve.

I reckon we need to keep everything like it is. Dowling picked up a knee injury which is where Zillman should step in at centre. I was most impressed with Harrison's kicking game, he didn't overplay his hand. He has to stay on the right edge even if it's in the back row when Kelly comes back with Bird, who was great again tonight, in the middle.

James was immense. I've been backing him all year. He was just playing frustrated and now that he's been told "you're the man" take as many hit-ups as you can he is playing free. Bailey's injury, as good as he's been for us, has come as a blessing for James as Bailey was taking hit-ups that James should've been.

Myles was great after he gave away some silly penalties early and I agree with the sentiments about Falloon, stellar effort and didn't take a backward step.

Sezer 7 Kelly 6 doesn't really matter that much, but Sezer has been great.

Mead has to stay at the back now and with Zillman's injury, playing him at left centre (even against Tate next week) is a must as he will do far less running than at fullback. To keep the balance in the team that's the only change I'd make.

Minichiello is playing the best football he's played in years and he is being used just the right amount in tandem with Taylor.

Cowboys will be a tough match as they've run into some form. the match will be won in the forwards and if we can contain Scott and Tamou who have been on fire, it will go along way toward victory. No small feat.

Great win by the Guys one thing that stood out for me was they just played and done most little thing right. bird was awesome he is a machine, always dragging 3 or 4 guys for that extra 5 - 10 meters. James has learnt run straight and hard, Falloon looks good aswell nice and aggressive, the suprise has been Harrison.

I need some sauce, there are some words I have been made to eat. I had written us off completely for this game, but a fantastic team effort has proved me wrong. Ryan James was a standout for me, he seems to have got his discipline in check for the last couple of games, and he is playing much better for it. Congrats to Flash on the hatrick, and well done everyone else for a solid performance. Hopefully we can get a roll on for the remaining rounds and get into some finals footy.

Just slipped in to the Doghouse (Bulldogs Forum) damn weren't they blowing up about losing to, and I quote, a "**** out of Sydney team". One of my good mates from work is a rabid Bulldogs fan and even he admitted we played very well. From here - mongrel 'never say die' attitude is what is needed!
