I agree, definitely positive signs

To be fair I think they are starting to move in the right direction. I got the impression that they have a bigger budget next year. Jamie mentioned that they were in a position to sign a complete under 16 and under 18 team for next year, which is what the boys in the training squad were building towards.

Who would have picked that a front rower would lead the try scoring tally after six rounds of the Gold Coast Rugby League U19 competition but that is the case with Titans linked young front rower Logan Cootes scoring two more tries on the weekend. Unfortunately his Mudgeeraba side were defeated 34-28 by the Burleigh Bears.

In the first five matches that he has played in the U19 competition, all of which he has started in the front row, Logan Cootes has scored seven tries. Logan Cootes scored in Round One against Ormeau and since that time has scored doubles in three consecutive matches, being Rounds Three, Five and Six against Runaway Bay, Bilambil and Burleigh respectively.

When you add in a conversion of one of his own tries in Round Three against Runaway Bay, you have a front rower who has already scored 30 points in the 2018 U19 season.

There's nothing more baffling than Qld junior Origin selections. So many times they get it wrong, especially the bench hooker/utility role. Like Rhyse Martin coming off the bench a few years ago to play hooker in an U20 Origin game, or Will Brimson, a half, being selected at centre one season (although he did later get ruled out and they picked an actual centre). Two examples of many, unfortunately.

If they kept it simple and picked players in their usual positions, like NSW normally do, they'd probably pick up a few more wins in the age groups. Last night was bizarre with all the switching.

Paix did well last night considering he's never played hooker but what a waste it was not having him in the halves.

Junior Qld selections have always been dominated by broncos contracted players as well as selectors and coaching staff. Broncos kids will always be favoured over others. That is the current mentality by the powers to be at the QRL and QAS. The current Qld under 18 coach Kurt Richards is in the coaching ranks of the broncos. Not sure on his football background but I know he is another ex school teacher throwing his hand at rugby league coaching. Therein lies the problem.

Great win for the young Burleigh Agrade side over a very experienced Tweed tonight. I think they won by 6 points. But more impressive is the amount of u20s that played and Titan linked. Kai O'Donnell, Lochie Sheldon, Api Noema, Mikey Williams, Ben Valeni, and Darius Farmer.
