If any one is watching through the week when the videos go live, the team lists were a little out of whack. They list the players in the positions, but they played in there original jersey numbers from naming the squads.
So Reece Walsh played fullback but wore 6 etc. nice and confusing...

Evening update on Blake lenehan played tonight for Westend seniors A grade and just killing it against Fassifern and was awarded best forward and my opinion was the best forward out of both sides good yards but so strong in defence well played tonight son

Looks like another one has slipped through the Titans system, maybe they will rue the day they let him go.

Thanks mdrew. You are always the man.
I’m specifically wanting to know about the development of a big forward Josh Gilbert.
I’ve seen him play games where he single handedly destroys oppositions however I’m wondering how he shapes up when up against higher quality and sizeable opponents.

Good to see Titans Rookie Squad member Jaxson Paulo having a great start to the season including an outstanding display for Burleigh Colts in Round One against the Sunshine Coast Falcons when he scored a try himself and set up winger Reece Tapine for another. His performance in Round Two last weekend against Redcliffe was also very good.

At the start of the season Jaxson Paulo moved from left wing to left centre and has performed well since, including spending time in the off season training with the NRL squad. He may even sneak a Queensland Cup match or two for Burleigh before seasons end.

Another young Titans Rookie Squad member having a solid start to the 2018 season is Tweed Heads Seagulls Colts player Ben Thomas. After copping a knock in Tweed’s trial against Souths Logan, Ben Thomas has played two solid Colts matches starting both. He has started both Rounds in eth front row even though he giving away a lot of size and scored a second half double on the weekend against a giant Victorian forward pack.

Some incredible statistics from two of the younger Titans through two NRL matches:

Jai Arrow is averaging 181 metres and 27.5 tackles (80% tackling efficiency) and Max King is averaging 118 metres and 17.5 tackles (98% tackling efficiency), very impressive from the two youngsters.

A couple of other young Titans have also been solid including Keegan Hipgrave making 21 tackles (77.8% tackling efficiency) and 83 metres, with 20 of those post contact on the weekend and Morgan Boyle is averaging 75 running metres (26.5 post contact) and fourteen tackles (80% tackling efficiency), not a bad young core to build an NRL pack around.

Also Phillip Sami is averaging 133.5 metres and has a try, two line breaks and eleven tackle breaks on the season.

18 year old Moeaki Fotuaika has been extraordinary for the Tweed Heads Seagulls Queensland Cup side through two matches this season.

To date Moeaki Fotuaika has run for 316 metres at an average of 158 metres per match and made 57 tackles at an average of 28.5 per game at a tackling efficiency of 94% whilst playing on average 64.5 minutes per game. Moeaki Fotuaika also has made 114 of his running metres post contact, has had four off-loads and six tackle breaks and one line break.

For an 18 year his statistics are simply incredible and he currently leads the league in a number of categories and is leaving a number of more hyped teenagers (from other NRL clubs) playing in the Queensland Cup in his wake.

I thought that he may get an NRL match or two at the end of the season, that time frame and the number of matches he may get has altered significantly.

The Titans have a group of talented young forwards in the NRL but Moeaki Fotuaika may well be the best of them all once he gets there.

The scary thing is that Moeaki Fotuaika is still U20 eligible in 2019.

The Group One NSW Junior Rugby League competition starts on Saturday April 7 with a number of Titans youngsters involved in the competition including U15 Ballina Seagull Rohan Mansfield who will start his season with a home game against the Grafton Ghosts.

Rowan Mansfield is an exceptionally talented Titans contracted youngster who can pay either at fullback or centre. He actually played in the centres for a Titans U15 side against the Western Mustangs at Nerang a couple of weeks ago.

The best judge of talent on this forum said to me that day (sorry for dobbing you in HS) how well he played that day and I agree.

Another Titans contracted player who will be involved in the Group One JRL is Ethan Foster who will play for Clarence Coast in the U16.5 competition.

Titans contracted Ben Liyou is still eligible for the U16.5 competition is likely to play for the Grafton Ghosts in the Group Two U18 competition instead.

MDrew, whats your thought and prediction on the MM and 20s games this weekend in between Burleigh and Tweed?

Tweed MM look extremely strong with a number of QLD U18s, Titan and Bronco contracted players in there side in comparison to Burleigh. On paper you would think Tweed should make easy work of Burleigh?

I'm assuming 20's will be close, with a number of Titans contracted players in both sides?

In terms of MM, I agree from "name" perspective Tweed are in front but Burleigh have been solid in their two matches so far. I do think that Tweed are favoured though but I do think that it will be close.

In terms of Colts, I think that it is the opposite. Burleigh have won both of their matches but have not played anywhere near as well as they can and against Norths Tweed played quite well in Round One. I think that Burleigh win on the back of a great forward pack, two centres in outstanding form and five eight Taine Tuaupiki who has simply been outstanding this year

I will acknowledge that I thought scrapping the NYC competition was the incorrect decision but seeing Moeaki Fotuaika’s development in the Queensland Cup for the Tweed Heads Seagulls, and also the play of Jai Whitbread (Burleigh) and AJ Brimson (Tweed Heads) I have to take my lumps and say from a player development perspective the decision from the NRL appears to be absolutely correct and will make the transition to the NRL by these youngsters and others of course less extreme and daunting.

Just commenting on mdrew’s statement about the transition from man-child to NRL and the relevance of the QCup v NYC, I believe that there is no perfect solution due to the players who develop at a different pace to the majority. There will always be ‘child prodigies’ and ‘late bloomers’ however to have enough players for a meaningful competition then it’s the majority that must be catered for.

The old 17’s, 19’s, 3rd, reserve to A’s pathway had it right and the sooner QCup slots fully into the reserve grade role the better. My wish is that with expansion and greater lower grade tv coverage comes promotion and relegation between 3rd’s and QCup.

I don’t think we can do much more with the NRL franchises other than expand and consolidate but I think there is a lot of room to foster more clubs at QCup level all over Australia, align them to NRL franchises and then split them into two grades as mentioned above.

For example, Tweed and Burleigh plus let’s say Toowoomba and Northern Rivers and more even could be competing for one QCup place (promotion and delegation) while playing in a regional statewide comp of their own.

In summary :) also a solution for the prematch program:

NRL franchises and comp
Reserve grade (QCup and NSWCup) comp
3rd grade regional comp
Juniors

ja4220
30-03-18, 12:58 PM
I think a return to the old Reserve grade ways is a better option, but that the clubs need to have a number of juniors.
For example we have a 30 man nrl squad now, if you added a 15-20 under 20 squad you could fill 2 teams and have the younger players gaining experience against men.
I personally dislike the feeder club arrangement. The players going back to qcup generally get little opportunity to train with the teams, and the coaches of the teams never know who they are getting. While it mind sound nice to have NRL players com8ng back to the comp I think it’s more destabilising than anything.
But that’s just me.

There has been some outstanding performances in the opening rounds of the South Burnett junior rugby league competition, none more so that in the U16 competition where Jake Keating who plays for Nanango has scored four tries already, including a hat trick in Round One against Chinchilla. Jake Keating has played in the back line this year after being a second rower earlier in his career also scored in Round Two against Murgon.

This is the second season for Jake Keating in the South Burnett U16 competition with the outstanding youngster being dominant in 2017 on his way to scoring 28 tries from just 15 matches.

Another stand out in the U16 South Burnett JRL competition is Murgon’s Glenn Fisher. This season Glenn Fisher has moved up from the U14 competition and has not missed a beat scoring fourteen points from three tries and a goal in the early going. All of Glen Fisher’s points came in his last match out against ccb. This season Glenn Fisher has played half after playing at five eight through the 2017 season.

Speaking of the 2017 season, in the U14 age group last year Glenn Fisher scored 112 points to lead the competition, with those points coming from 21 tries and 14 goals from 13 matches.

Outstanding young Titans Top 30 contracted front rower Moeaki Fotuaika continues to impress in the Queensland Cup for Tweed Heads, last weekend he, in 39 minutes, ran for 94 metres at an average of more than 10 metres per hit-up and 36 of those metres were post contact. Moeaki Fotuaika also made 16 tackles at a tackling efficiency of 94.12%.

He started the day starting in the front row in the U18's scoring a double and then backed up to come of the bench in both reserve grade and first grade.

Sunday was Adam Kliendeinst's second ever Group Two First Grade match after he made his 1st grade debut in July 2017 against Woolgoolga.

Great to see Grafton Ghosts youngster Caleb Barker back on a rugby league field. The outstanding former Titans Development squad member has played two of the three Group Two U18 rounds this season.

The recent season Caleb Barker has played a fait bit of rugby including NSW Combined High Schools at the U16 level last season at the NSW Championships where he played No.8.

In rugby league in 2017 Caleb Barker was only able to play in five matches in the Group One U16.5 competition for Grafton including a hat trick against Lismore Marist Brothers and also tries against Casino and Ballina.

Caleb Barker is a very talented multi - sport athlete who has an outstanding future regardless of what code he chooses.

Two of the most explosive young players that I have seen in Titans Junior Development Squad over the years are the Cooper brothers, Austin and Lewis. Unfortunately for Austin injuries impacted. Both brothers were well known in the Grafton area but moved in the offseason.

Austin and Lewis Coopers move to Group Two rivals the Sawtell Panthers is paying off in the early going. Through three matches Austin Cooper is the leading try scorer with four tries. He scored a double last week against Nambucca Heads and scored in his other two games as well which were against Orara Valley and Grafton.

Lewis Cooper whose season started playing for North Coast in the Laurie Daley U18 competition with Titan Ben Liyou has played in two Group Two First Grade matches scoring in both being against Nambucca Heads and Grafton with the try against Grafton being the match winner in the score in the last minute. He has also played in one U18 match and scored then as well against Grafton.

Both brothers are big strong exceptionally physical, powerful and athletic players who I would like to see give the Queensland Cup a go. They both would likely surprise.

Come on mdrew!! Please answer my Keebra Park thing or anyone else out there in the know...

To be honest, I think the “pathway” from schools to the club is overstated. For all the years Keebra was with Tigers and now Bulldogs, there is still a fair few boys through that program going elsewhere. Payne is a perfect example, was with Titans then went to Broncos.
Silmilarly at PBC, who are aligned with the Titans, but of the kids I know, some are with Broncos, some with Roosters, and a couple with the Titans in various capacities.
From what I have seen, the clubs provide the school with support but is in no way a “direct path” for either the club to the kid or the kid to the club...
That’s my take on it anyway

Mr Bods
03-05-18, 06:59 PM
I listen carefully to what new bosses or coach etc say when they get a job because I expect they are echoing what they said to their interview panel...
Anyway Brennan said he’d future proof the Coast and make sure the pathways to being Titans would be made direct.
I want to see it followed through on because it’s tragic what we lose from our community.

Don’t get me wrong, from what I hear the Titans put a lot of work in to the kids at PBC, and I am sure that they are watching a lot of the Keebra kids as well.
But as it stands, Keebra has a contract with the Bulldogs. When that expires we’ll hopefully the Titans get a look in.
My point is that just because the school is aligned with a club that club doesn’t instantly get a monopoly over the students.
Our issue, as a club, is always going to be funding. We all know that clubs like the Broncos and Roosters have much bigger budgets for juniors and will always throw a wider net.
The other issue as I see it is our relationship with the various player managers. When 14 and 15 year old kids are signing with agents, those agents are going to shop them to the clubs they have better relationships with , or have deeper pockets.

This is a very good post. At the end of the day, the kids are going to go wherever they can get the best opportunity or deal. The whole "school to club pathway" is overhyped and means very little in the long run. The Bulldogs didn't even get Keebra's best players from their 2017 GIO cup winning side - the Broncos did.

Bods - it is not as simple as us deciding that we will now try harder to make sure the Keebra students are in some way associated with the Titans. There are many factors at play and in some sense the school needs to make an effort to co-operate with the Titans junior pathway system as well as they currently do clash at certain points. Let's not also forget that these students are not really "gold coast juniors"..yes they go to school here, but lets remember that the school recruits heavily from elsewhere and often brings in players for their final years of tuition. If you are expecting that we retain these kids because they are "our juniors" then you're gonna be disappointed.

I'm all for an opportunity to work with the school to give us a better opportunity to get boys involved with the club but until these boys want to pay for the titans, we will be competing with the same currency as always.

Brennan is working hard on our junior systems Bodsy i'll tell you that. But it's never going to be a case of the Titans being able to cherry pick Keebra and PBC.

Since his elevation to the NRRRL First Grade side for Cudgen midway through last season, young 18 year old winger Connah Mills cannot stop scoring. After a double last weekend in a 34-4 win over Murwillumbah, he has a 100% strike rate through the opening four rounds.

In the Murwillumbah First Grade side was former Keebra Park forward Wade Riley who was backing up after playing in the U18 fixture earlier in the day. Wade Riley was a key member of Keebra Park’s GIO Cup success last season and started the National Cup Final from the interchange bench.
