Mdrew how do you think Tristan Powell is going ? I feel he’s tracking pretty good with a solid performance each game. Do you think he has it to crack the NRL at all ? I’m aware that stats at QRL level are not a good indicator but I wonder if he will get a crack at NRL or ready for NRL ? Thanks in advance.

In short mate, yes I have no doubt Tristian Powell can play in the NRL, not just in the future but now. He is not going to be a star but he has the potential to be a very solid mobile front rower, hopefully with the Titans.

Surely the Titans can do better than that if they are supposed to have some affiliation with the school.

It's annoying hey. It's because the Langer Trophy competition is sponsored by the Broncos so all of the uniforms have Broncos logos all over them, including the playing jerseys (if you look at the Keebra and PBC sleeves they've got Broncos logos on them too)

Thanks for the info as I didn’t realise there was a connection between the name of the comp and the logos.

First time I saw Keebra this year and that Hau has huge potential. I was also very impressed by the Keebra number 4 who has a tremendous outside swerve and looks a real prospect but unsure whether he is tied up with anyone

I think you'd be looking at one of the Lotaki brothers (Dorian or Taniela) at centre, powerfully built and a very good carry of the ball. They arrived on the coast start of last year I think (from Auckland) and I don't think they're signed anywhere.

Glad you got to see Hau play for Keebra WD.

One of the giant Mabel Park SHS front rowers broke through the PBC SHS defensive line and looked certain to score but Sam Stephenson flew across to his right and hit the front rower on the try line and flipped him onto his back to hold him up next to the right upright, it was a truly spectacular tackle.

Cooper Camby was faced with a two man overlap around ten metres out from the try line and after holding his defensive positioning as the play unfolded in front on him, Cooper Camby raced out of the line and was able to knock down a pass when without Cooper Camby’s intervention, Ballina would surely have scored.

From an attacking perspective Cooper Camby was heavily involved in Stevie O’Connor’s 32nd minute try when Cooper Camby made a line break down the right side of the field near the halfway mark with Cooper Camby throwing a great right arm around the corner off-load to Jett Forbes who then sent Stevie O’Connor away to score under the posts.

Sorry about the spelling of Cooper's surname, I had it in my head that there was an "e" on the end, I appreciate the heads up.

Hope he goes well tomorrow of the Northern Rivers Titans squad.

Yes watched Kwinn play left second row against Forest Lake SHS on Tuesday afternoon and earlier in the season as well. Kwinn has got some very good ball skills on the fringes of the ruck to be sure.

In the 11th minute Thomas Weaver kicked a great conversion from the right touchline to convert Keano Kini’s long range try, then in the 27th minute Thomas Weaver swapped sides to convert another Keano Kini try from the left touchline.

Thomas Weaver’s tactical kicking was also impressive against the Cowboys, including in the 3rd minute when from near the halfway mark Thomas Weave put up a towering bomb which came down just in the field of play with the Cowboys fullback subsequently forced back into his in-goal area with Thomas Weaver forcing the goal line drop-out.

In the 53rd minute Thomas Weaver put up a high towering bomb thirty metres out and in the centre of the field with the Cowboys fullback dropping the ball five metres out from his own try line with Jaylen De Groot scoring in the left corner from the subsequent set of six tackles for the Titans.

Arama Hau started at lock for a Titans U19 side that played their annual match against the North Queensland Cowboys that was played as a curtain raiser at Cbus Stadium to the Titans Round Twenty NRL match against the Canberra Raiders.

Arama Hau made a strong run in the 17th minute down the right channel from his own twenty metre mark to get the ball to thirty two metres out and then in the 35th minute Arama Hau made another strong hit-up down a short blindside with Arama Hau tackled nine metres out near the right touchline after making nineteen metres.

Arama Hau made another strong run in the 55th minute when he bumped off two would be tacklers in a fifteen metre run through the centre of the failed to get the ball within two metres out the halfway mark after making fifteen metres.

I do not recall seeing a match that Arama Hau plays where he does not get an off-load away and the match against the Cowboys was no different when in the 66th minute Arama Hau attacked the Cowboys line before getting a right arm off-load away to Thomas Weaver ten metres out from the try line.

Arama Hau made one of the better defensive efforts in the match in the 30th minute with a big hit as North Queensland were trying to bring the ball out of their own twenty metre area and then in the 59th minute after the North Queensland replacement dummy half (No. 14) broke through the Titans line, Arama Hau chased hard to catch him from behind just ten metres out from the try line.

For the Tweed Heads Seagulls Creedence Donovan moved to five eight in the rescheduled Round Four NRRRL U18 match against the Murwillumbah Mustangs with Creedence Donovan scoring a double in a strong Seagulls victory as well as a try assist and a line break.

Creedence Donovan scored his opening try in the 55th minute when Zane Harrison put in a right foot stab kick which bounced up perfectly in the in-goal for Creedence Donovan to collect and five metres to the left of the uprights.

Creedence Donovan scored his second try in the 58th minute when after minute Zane Harrison ran the ball to the left after receiving the from the dummy half to his right thirty metres out from his own line with Zane Harrison taking the ball right to the line before throwing an inside ball to a flying Creedence Donovan who burst through a gap, beating the fullback by veering to his left to run away to score mid-way between the goal posts and corner post on the left side of the field.

Creedence Donovan had come very close to scoring prior to his first try in the 52nd minute which in many respects was a trial run for a basically identical play that ultimately led to Creedence Donovan scoring in the 58th minute. Just like in the 58th minute Zane Harrison ran the ball to the left after receiving the from the dummy half to his right thirty metres out from his own line with Zane Harrison taking the ball right to the line before throwing an inside ball to a flying Creedence Donovan who burst through a gap, beating the fullback and two other defenders before being tackled from behind just two metres out from the line and directly in front of the goal posts.

Jaylen De Groot added a second try in the 53rd minute when he was put over in the left corner by way of a good ball from Keano Kini.

In late July 2022 Keano Kini started at fullback for the U19 Future Titans Squad that played a North Queensland Cowboys U19 squad at Cbus Stadium as a curtain-raiser to the Round Twenty NRL match between the Titans and the Canberra Raiders with Keano Kini, in my opinion, being the best player on the field with a three try, one try assist effort in a Player of the Match performance.

Keano Kini scored his opening try in the 11th minute and what an absolutely superb solo try it was. Keano Kini took a North Queensland clearing kick in the centre of the field twenty metres out and immediately right to his right, running parallel to the defensive line before stepping off his right foot to burst between two defenders to race away downfield. As he approached the fullback near the halfway mark Keano Kini shaped to pass to his inside before stepping off his right foot to beat the fullback with Keano Kini then racing away to score in the right corner.

Keano Kini scored his second try just four minutes later in the 15th minute when he backed up a line break by Jack Cullen to receive the ball after Jack Cullen had drawn the fullback with Keano Kini racing away to score under the posts.

Keano Kini completed his hat trick in the 22nd minute when after good work from near the halfway mark from Jaylen De Groot, Keano Kini dived over in the left corner from close range after Kaleb Nagamanu had drawn the Cowboys fullback and passed to Keano Kini.

Keano Kini’s try assist came in the 53rd minute when Kenao Kini received the ball around ten metres out on the left side of the field, Keano Kini cut to his outside, drawing in the Cowboys winger and got the ball away to his right to put Jaylen De Groot over to score in the left corner.

Keano Kini also made a line break in the 29th minute when he received the ball on the halfway mark after cutting back underneath Thomas Weaver with Keano Kini stepping off his right foot to isolate and beat one defender with Keano Kini making twenty metres through the centre of the field as a result.

Keano Kini made a further line break in the 63rd minute when from twenty eight metres out on the left side of the field, Keano Kini dummied to his outside before slicing through only to be tackled four metres out from the try line.

Keano Kini also did well in the 35th minute when after running onto the ball to the right of the play the ball, Keano Kini was able to get halfway through the line before getting away a good right arm off-load.

Keano Kini got a further off-load away in the 57th minute when after running the ball on the left side of the field twenty metres from the try line Keano Kini stepped off his left foot before getting an off-load away to his right to Oskar Bryant.

Keano Kini also had a strong match defensively starting inside the opening minute of the match when after the Cowboys fullback had made a line break through the centre of the field from the Titans first clearing kick of the match, Keano Kini took him in a great low one on one tackle near the halfway mark.

Then in the 6th minute along with Ryan Foran and Thomas Weaver, Keano Kini made a strong tackle on the North Queensland right second rower to prevent him from scoring just to the left of the uprights on the last tackle.

Kenao Kini made a great take of a high Cowboys bomb in the 46th minute with Keano Kini leaping high to take the ball on the full just out from his own try line with Keano Kini subsequently being awarded a penalty for being tackled in the air.

In the 21st minute Keano Kini when just six metres out from his own try line took a Cowboys kick on the full over his head with Keano Kini breaking two tackles as he promoted the ball to twenty six metres out from his own line.

Whilst Kenao Kini played the majority of the match at fullback, he did spend time on the left wing after swapping with Jaylan De Groot.

In many respects all three of Ray Puru’s try assists which came in the 2nd minute, 16th minute and 36th minute were similar both in terms of execution and also who Ray Puru set up to score. On each occasion Ray Puru received the ball on the left of either the play the ball or a PBC SHS scrum win and ran flat out to his left at the defensive line and on each occasion Ray Puru’s speed and running line meant that he got on the outside of his direct opponent and forced the Wavell SHS right winger to come in. Cole Geyer has been playing very well for the Storm U20 side mate. It would be great for him to come back to the Coast. If he did where would he sit in the hooker hierarchy?

Interesting question, the Titans have a number of outstanding hooker prospects in Oskar Bryant Vaka Skiahele and Tanu Nona above the U16 level and a stand-out in Corey Pearce at the U16 level.

I have Vaka Sikahele the closest to the NRL (still a few seasons) due to his size with Oskar Bryant not far behind. In saying that Tanu Nona may surpass both in a year or two such is his talent.

Cole Geyer is similiar in my opinion to Oskar Bryant but he can also operate at lock which is is big bonus.

Thanks mate... It will be fascinating to see how the next few months play out.

Titans contracted Nic Hilton put in a typically strong performance this afternoon from No. 8 for the TSS First XV side in their GPS School Boy Rugby Round Four win over Churchie 22-12.

He did however get a yellow card with a touch under ten minutes to go after tackling a Churchie player without the ball.
