Definitely still an outstanding prospect mate. Missed some time but has played the last two matches for Burleigh in the GCRL First Grade competition playing primarily right second row.

He has put on some muscle this season and is a big young man but with outstanding speed and mobility. He should at the very least play in the NRL trials in 2020 and from there the sky is the limit for the extremely decent young man.

Runaway Bay front row/lock Matthew Kinchin has quietly put together a very solid 2019 season spanning the GCRL U20, Doug Lipp Cup and First Grade competitions.

Even though he was U18 eligible this season, Matthew Kinchin started off the season in the GCRL U20 competition, to date playing in six matches and scoring against Currumbin and Southport in Round Nineteen last weekend.

Matt Kinchin’s try in that match came as a result of him diving over from dummy half down the shortest blind that you will ever see, I am serious when I say that the ball was played within a foot of the touchline. Matthew Kinchin dummied to pass to his right before putting the ball down in the left corner. Matt Kinchin had in fact set up the break which led to the play the ball so close to the line with a deft pass down the left side of the field.

Matthew Kinchin also had a try assist in the match when he got through the line about twenty metres out and got the ball away to the fullback to score.

Matthew Kinchin progressed to the Doug Lipp Cup competition making his debut in early June and has gone on to play in nine more Doug Lipp Cup matches.

Matthew Kinchin made his GCRL First Grade debut the same day that he made his Doug Lipp Cup debut and has since played two more GCRL First Grade matches with those matches being against Southport and Currumbin.

Against Currumbin in Round Twenty last weekend Matthew Kinchin started at lock in both the Doug Lipp Cup match and the First Grade match.

In 2018 Matthew Kinchin played eleven matches in the GCRL U17 Division One competition scoring four tries.

In the U16 Division One competition in 2017, Matt Kinchin scored three tries from his eleven matches including a Round One try against Ormeau and tries in separate matches against Helensvale. In relation to his matches in the U17 Division One competition Matt Kinchin on all three occasions played in the U17 match after playing in the U16 match earlier.

In the U17 Division One competition also in 2017 Matt Kinchin scored in his third and final match against Mudgeeraba.

In 2017 Matt Kinchin also represented Gold Coast Vikings Green in the South East Queensland U16 pre-season competition and after that competition was selected in the South East Queensland U16 Training Squad.

Previous seasons has seen Matt Kinchin make a number of U14 representative sides including the Vikings and South East Queensland. Matt Kinchin also started on the bench for the Titans U14 Development Squad late in 2015 against a giant Samoan side, a match which the Titans won 28 - 10.

When the 2019 Group Two U18 Major Awards came out one Grafton Ghosts player being Elliott Speed topped three of them being the Most Valuable Player, Top Point’s Scorer and Top Goal kicker and impressively the young man who is also an outstanding field hockey player is U18 eligible again in 2020.

In the 2019 Group Two U18 competition, Elliott Speed played in nine matches scoring 82 points from seven tries and 27 goals.

His tries included a Round One hat trick against Sawtell, a double against Woolgoolga and tries in consecutive rounds in July against Macksville and South Grafton.

With the boot Elliott Speed had some big matches, none bigger than against Woolgoolga when he kicked nine (he scored a double that match as well for a 26 point haul) and kicked six goals also against Woolgoolga later in the season.

The Titans have a great relationship with Grafton with the likes of Ben Liyou and Jake Martin currently in the TEDS program and of course they are the junior club of Titans cult hero Anthony Don.

The focus is understandably on the GIO School Boy Cup but on Monday night a number of other school boy competitions had their Grand Final with Gold Coast Schools to the fore.

In the Year 7 Broncos Old Boy Trophy PBC went down to Forest Lake State School 14-6. For PBC forwards Mason Nelson and Hiawa King were prominent.

In the Year 8 Renouf Cup Coombabah State High School defeated Forest Lake 36-16. For Coombabah Titans linked five eight Coby Black and centre Izayah Petricevich were amongst the try scorers and front rower Dahnte Te Whiu-Hopa named Player of the Match.

Finally in the Year 9 Hancock Cup PBC defeated Coombabah 24 – 18 with PBC lock Reico Ratana prominent as well as scoring a critical try late in the match.

One thing is for certain after watching replays of the matches, there is plenty of talented young players on the Coast and also the Titans could do far worse that forging a relationship with Forest Lake SHS, they had some very talented players in both their Year 7 and 8 sides including Jacob Tinsley who has already played for the Titans U14 side.

Individual class mate, obviously Kaleb Ngamanu (Titans contracted) has been great and it is scary to think that he is only 16 but across the board they have individual skill but more importantly they play as a team and a very good one.

Can not wait for tomorrows match against BBC who have a few NRL contracted players of their own including star centre Jack Howarth who is a Storm contracted player.

Exciting Casino RSM fullback Lachlan West was the stand out player in the NRRRL U18 competition this season, finishing as the competitions leading points scorer and last weekend in Week Two of the NRRRL First Grade Finals made his First Grade Finals debut when he was part of the Casino RSM side that progressed to the Preliminary Final with an 18 -14 win over 2018 Premiers the Tweed Coast Raiders with the talented youngster scoring a double.

In the 2019 NRRRL U18 competition, Lachlan West finished as the regular season’s leading point’s scorer with 138, the equal leading try scorer with sixteen and the fourth leading goal kicker with thirty seven goals. In fact Lachlan West scored in each of his fifteen 2019 NRRRL U18 matches.

Lachlan West scored a hat trick against Evans Head and doubles against Evans Head, Tweed Coast, Cudgen and Lower Clarence and also scored in matches against Tweed heads Seagulls, Lower Clarence, Murwillumbah and Kyogle twice.

With the boot Lachlan West kicked six in a mid-May match against Evans Head and kicked four goals on three other occasions being against Tweed Heads, Lismore Marist Brothers and Tweed Coast.

As you would anticipate Lachlan West had some big matches from an individual point’s scoring perspective including 20 points against Evans Head (two tries and four goals), eighteen against Evans Head (three tries and three goals) and sixteen against Tweed Coast (two tries and four goals).

In early 2019 Lachlan West played the opening three rounds of the U18 Laurie Daley Cup for the Northern Rivers Titans starting Rounds One and Two against the Newcastle Knights Development Squad and Parramatta Eels at fullback and Round Three against the North Coast Bulldogs on the wing.

In 2018 Lachlan West started the season playing for Casino RSM in the Group One U16.5 competition playing in eleven matches and scoring ten tries including consecutive hat tricks in early season rounds against Clarence Coast and Ballina.

Lachlan West then as a 16 year old moved up to play in three NRRRL U18 matches for Casino RSM making his debut in July 2018 against Lismore Marist Brothers and scoring his first try in the NRRRL U18 competition in just his second match which was against Tweed Coast.

Lachlan West started at Keebra Park this season and in addition to rugby league performed well in the triple jump and javelin athletic disciplines.

Will of the wisp half Tyrelle Roberts U18 NRRRL season may have come to an end last weekend as Lismore Marist Brothers lost 36 – 28 to Byron Bay in Week Two of the finals but he went out with a bang scoring a double and kicking four from five conversions.

Formerly of Casino RSM half Tyrelle Roberts moved in the off-season to Lismore Marist Brothers starting the season in the Rams U18 NRRRL side, having a break out match in Round Four scoring 18 points, made up of a try and seven goals as Lismore defeated Evans Head 58 – 0.

In total for Lismore Marist Brothers in the NRRRL U18 competition this season Tyrelle Roberts played in seventeen regular season matches, scoring 132 points from eight tries and fifty goals including an outstanding Round Seventeen match when he scored twenty eight points from a try and twelve goals against Kyogle.

Tyrelle Roberts also had a big game in Round Eighteen against Evans Head scoring eighteen points from a double and five goals in a big 50 – 4 win.

Tyrelle Roberts 132 points and fifty goals was enough for him to finish second in each tally for the 2019 NRRRL U18 season.

The young former Casino RSM half had an outstanding year in 2017 in the Group One U15 competition and as a consequence was selected in the Northern Rivers U16 side for the 2018 Andrew Johns Cup competition.

Tyrelle Roberts in fact started at half back in their Round One clash against the U16 Newcastle Knights Development squad with Northern Rivers defeating Newcastle 22 – 12 in difficult slippery conditions.

In the Round One match Tyrelle Roberts kicked three goals from four attempts and also set up a try for exciting young fullback Layne Hardy with a deft chip in the second half. The only goal attempt that Tyrelle Roberts missed was after the fulltime siren from right on the right hand touch line.

In total for Northern Rivers in the Andrew Johns Cup Tyrelle Roberts started at half back on all five of their matches scoring twenty two points in the process, coming from eleven goals, including three goals in matches against Newcastle, Central Coast and the Greater Northern Tigers.

Post the Andrew Johns Cup, Tyrelle Roberts went back to the Group One U16.5 competition, to play for Casino RSM.

Tyrelle Roberts finished the 2018 Group One U16.5 competition as its equal second leading try scorer (behind Titans stand out Ethan Foster), top goal kicker and leading points scorer, one in front of Ethan Foster.

In total in his thirteen Group One U16.5 matches in 2018 Tyrelle Roberts scored 140 points from eleven tries and forty eight goals.

Tyrelle Roberts scored a May hat trick against Ballina and scored an April double against Lismore Marist Brothers. He also scored tries against Clarence Coast twice, Lismore Marist Brothers and Ballina twice.

With the boot, Tyrelle Roberts kicked seven against Lismore Marist Brothers to score twenty two points in the match when you add in his double and Tyrelle Roberts kicked six goals in matches against Ballina and Kyogle. In the Ballina Tyrelle Roberts also scored a hat trick to finish the match with twenty four points.

At the completion of the 2018 season Tyrelle Roberts started at half for a Group One U16 side in a match at Cudgen against a Western Mustangs selection in a curtain raiser to a U15 match between the Titans and Balmain and scored one of the best tries that I have ever seen when he chipped twice from seventy metres out to score and exceptional try.

In 2017 Tyrelle Roberts finished the season as the Group One U15 competition’ leading points scorer and fourth leading try scorer. In total in 2017 Tyrelle Roberts scored 84 points from ten tries and twenty two goals. Tyrelle Roberts’s ten tries came from just eleven matches and included doubles against Clarence Coast early in the season and against Clarence Coast later in the season.

From a goal kicking perspective, Tyrelle Roberts kicked six from seven in a July match against Kyogle and five in a match against Clarence Coast when he also scored a double to finish the match with eighteen points.

Tyrelle Roberts also played one U16.5 competition match in 2017 which came against Lismore Marist Brothers in early June where he backed up after playing in the U15 match earlier on the Saturday afternoon.

I think that the development of the relationship with Keebra Park is equal in importance to any decision the Titans have made in recent years.

The Titans currently have outstanding links to PBC (Ediq Ambrosyev, Toby Sexton, Caleb Hodges, Bailey Martin etc), Coombabah SHS (Joseph Shannon, Kobie Mackay-Taylor, Nicholas Hilton, Arama Hau etc) and Ballina Coast High School in Northern NSW (Rowan Mansfield, Reshawn Anderson etc) but adding Keebra Park into the mix is a huge step forward.

Keebra Park attracts players from all over Australian and New Zealand to the school and with the Keebra Park coaches actively working with Jamie McCormack to bring the right players into our TEDS program the future is even brighter. Obviously that does not stop the Broncos from nabbing players but it will be harder for them but the earlier that Keebra Park and the Titans can get them into the TEDS program the better the chance that they will stay at the Titans when other clubs come calling.

I should note however that the Titans have had success in signing players straight out of school from Keebra Park in the past, the most notable being AJ and Mo and also Jamie McCormack has also snared current students such as Seth Nikotemo and Te Haeta Takamore amongst others. Then of course there is the come home factor which has assisted the Titans signing Jai Arrow and Tannah Boyd.

In recent seasons Keebra Park has attracted a lot of talented players from Ipswich and New Zealand (Terry-Jack Smart this season) and recently also Northern NSW with the likes of Thomas Vickery, Kade Hill and the exceptionally talented Lachlan West also moving this season.

Jamie McCormack now has a bigger pool of players to develop which he has proved that he can do, and do quickly.

The Titans TEDS staff will also continue to work closely with PBC etc, they will not let the association with those schools to drop off either, they are far too smart for that to occur.

I encourage every rugby league supporter on the Gold Coast next season to go and watch a derby match between PBC and Keebra, the crowd which has been in excess of 5 000 in the past and atmosphere is amazing as is of course the standard of play as the young men represent their school.

Great to see a couple of young Titans players getting an opportunity for Burleigh in the Gold Coast Rugby League Finals series in the Bears 26-12 Major Semi-Final victory over Currumbin on Sunday.

Reece Tapine started on the left wing, scoring a try and kicking three goals, Tyler Szepanowski started in the front row and Luke Maiden from the bench.

In relation to Reece Tapine’s try, Burleigh spun the ball to the left wing with Reece Tapine receiving the ball in a stationary position on the left wing about twelve metres out from the Currumbin line, he then cut back inside before stepping off his right foot to split the defence and he then was able to bring the ball around to put it down under the goal posts with a celebratory arm raised to the crowd at the dressing room end of Pizzey Park for good measure.

MDREW-if we during the Calamity Annesley years had our act together we’d now have Haas, Fifita, Nikora maybe Deardon and be on the precipice of being a contender in a year or two.

That’s the preamble to my question which is are there any players of that caliber in the age 14-18 age groups coming through on the GC to be in our system and be future superstar Titans?

PS-this question is also asked if anyone in the forum that follows the Juniors closely

Absolutely mate, at the U18 level we have some real stars such as Will Evans (centre), Juwan Compain (second row), Carsil Vaikai (lock) etc and of course recent signing Toby Sexton.

Will Evans and Juwan Compain have already played Q Cup when still U18 eligible. I would argue that Juwan Compain will be Fifita's equal and Will Evans is as good as any outside back the Bronco's have at the U18 level and that includes Xavier Coates.

In the U16's we have the best U16 in Australia in half Thomas Weaver and our version in Angus Creighton in Ryan Foran and Bailey Martin is no slouch and Kaleb Ngamanu and Orlando Swain are already playing First XV at 16.

In the U15 Arama Hau has unlimited potential as a second rower and also forwards such as Nicholas Hilton and Joseph Shannon are in the U15 Emerging Origin squad.

U14's such as fullback/centre Xavier Atoa and second rower William Semu have potential as good as any.

I have omitted multiple players such as Ediq Ambrosyev, Brock Priestley, Jack Cullen.

Also Titians fans will see Ioane Seuili and Jayden Campbell as early as next season and Luke Maiden is not far behind.

Likely the first to play NRL is star to be Darius Farmer.

PS U13 Coby Black could turn out to be anything as well.

Mr Bods, it should be noted that the NRL owned the Titans during the majority Mr Annesley Reign. The NRL did not allocate any fu ds to junior development. The Titans are not to blame. I keep hearing that the titans let all these great players slip through. No they didnt, they didnt have the capability. The junior development would have signed them in they could.
The NRL have left a large hole in our junior development.
The new owners are now allocating funds to the juniors but the best are still lost to the Bronx. It will take a few more years for the new program to get the recognition it deserves. Word will get out! The senior team also need to start winning. Kids want to tell their friends they've signed with a winning organization.

Haas, Fafita and Deardon are quality players. Ones you find once in a decade. It could be a while before we see that talent again. Titans gave some promising juniors. Many will play NRL. Do we have any Haas's or Fafitas coming through the ranks? the answer is no. Not many clubs would.

Tanah Boyd was a junior star, lost his way at Brisbane. He'll be great for us next year.

For me one of the most impressive players in the NRRRL U18 competition this season was Cudgen left second rower Dillon Pinder. In last weekend’s NRRRL U18 Grand Final, Dillon Pinder was one of Cudgen’s best as they went down 24 – 6 to Ballina.

Dillon Pinder played matches for Cudgen across all three senior grades in the NRRRL competition in 2019.

In the NRRRL U18 competition, including finals Dillon Pinder played in thirteen matches scoring seven tries most of the barnstorming variety.

In addition to a semi-final hat trick against Ballina, Dillon Pinder also scored tries against Lismore Marist Brothers in Round One and against Lower Clarence and Lismore Marist Brothers on three separate occasions.

Dillon Pinder also played in two reserve grade matches, his debut coming against Lismore Marist Brothers in March and also played in a match against Northern United.

Dillon Pinder made his NRRRL First Grade debut in April against Murwillumbah going on to play in nine First Grade matches overall, scoring in three of those. Dillon Pinder’s first NRRRL First Grade try came in his 4th first grade match against Evans Head and he also scored against Mullumbimby and Kyogle.

Dillon Pinder also played in the NRRRL U18 competition in 2018 playing in eleven matches scoring six tries including a double in the last round of the regular season against Tweed Coast. Dillon Pinder’s other tries were against Kyogle, Lower Clarence, Murwillumbah and Tweed Coast.

2018 also saw Dillon Pinder play for the Northern Rivers U18 side in the inaugural U18 Laurie Daley Cup competition.

Dillon Pinder made his NRRRL U16 debut as a 16 year old in 2017, playing fifteen matches that season and scoring three tries.

Bods. This guy has written what has happened. Annersley was not to blame at all. He ran the club on the smell of an oily rag. He did a tremendous job and without him TITANS would not be here. It’s a pitty Graham is not around as I would have personally organised for you both to meet and chat. Once he retires back to coast I’ll organise a coffee with him if you like and ask away. We as a Titans community really don’t know what he has done to save our club. It’s also noted that he did a lot of the work by himself when the NRL owned the club. I will defend Graham until the day I die for what he did for our great club.

One of the best players in the U18 Division Two competition this season was Robina Raptor Klese Haas who was a dominant figure over the course of the season and had an outstanding Grand Final when he started at lock not withstanding that Robina went down 34 – 8 to Burleigh in a rough and tough encounter.

Splitting time between lock and five eight Klese Haas played eight U18 Division Two matches (including finals) and finished with a season strike rate of 125%.

Klese Haas (who is a cousin I believe of Payne Haas) scored four tires and kicked four goals in his first U18 match of the season against Runaway Bay, and aslo scored doubles against Tugun and Beaudesert.

Klese Haas’s other two tries came in matches against Southport and Currumbin.

Klese Haas is U18 eligible again in 2020 and should, if he chooses, find his way into either Tweed Heads or Burleigh’s MM Cup squads.

Tira Rau’s 2019 season came to a close yesterday as Runaway Bay went down 20-16 in the GCRL U20 Preliminary Final with Tira Rau contributing a try for the Seagulls.

Tria Rau has been impressive this season for Runaway Bay in both the GCRL U18 Division One competition as well as the U20 competition.

In the U18 Division One competition Tira Rau scored seven tries from nine appearances including doubles against Tugun and Southport and also scored against Mudgeeraba, Currumbin and Southporth.

Including final Tira Rau finished his nine GCRL U20 matches with a 100% strike rate including scoring four tries against Helensvale in early August and backing that up a week later with a hat trick against Southport.
