Maybe we should start looking for more quality from Idris, rather than quantity - and I'm not referring to food.
Put him on the bench, play him as second row impact on the edges.
That also relieves us from taking up a bench spot with a back - any injuries in the backline Idris to #3 and Zillman to wherever.

I've been wanting to see Mead in #1 for ages, and he showed more than enough to stay there. He was everywhere all night, running off every forward up the middle, and shadowing the playmakers out wide.

I'm not sure where all our injuries will be at, and assuming we lose Bird, Myles & Harro to origin\injury, if not their inclusion would be a bonus:

1. Mead
2. Gordon
3. Zillman
4. Champion

If Bailey doesn't play White will go starting and James will come on to the bench.

Prince actually hits Mead a fair bit, when I say fair bit I mean alot more than Kev. I dont think Kev has ever been given a tunnel ball from Prince. It's interesting that Sezer doesnt do much work on the right side, his passing would be great on this side of the field.

Illness can?t keep White down
Adrian McMurray
Monday 2 July 2012 5:23 PM

Jetstar Gold Coast Titans prop Matt White has recovered from a bad bout of tonsillitis and has declared his availability for the Round 18 match with the Warriors at Skilled Park.
After missing the clash with the Dragons, White revealed he subsequently lost 5kgs while recovering in hospital.
?I had tonsillitis and a cyst on the back of my throat. I had three nights in hospital, it wasn?t too much fun,? White said.
?I lost about 5kgs. I?m just getting into training now to put a bit of weight back on, I?ve put a few back on already which has been good.
?When I was in hospital I was pretty much only eating jelly and ice cream. I couldn?t really open my jaw or anything because of the cyst.?
?It was hard missing the game - it?s always hard sitting on the sideline watching.?
When asked about the Warriors, White said last year?s grand finalists would prove to be a real challenge, but is relishing the opportunity of coming up against their big forward pack.
?They had a good win last weekend. They?re always tough - a big physical pack. But we?ve got a home game, so hopefully we can get a win.?
With the back end of the season fast approaching, White believes there?s still plenty of time for the Titans to mount a challenge for the top eight.
?We got a bit of a roll on there - I think we won three or four games in a row, and then the last couple of games we?ve just slackened off a bit.
?The boys were a bit unlucky last week - a couple of things didn?t go our way.
?There are a lot of teams on 16 points, so I suppose we?re only two or three wins out of the eight. Hopefully we can string a few together.?

Key quartet named for Warriors clash
Adam Gardini | Tuesday 3 July 2012

The Jetstar Gold Coast Titans have today named key quartet Luke Bailey, William Zillman, Beau Champion and Matt White to return from injury for Saturday night’s clash against the New Zealand Warriors at Skilled Park.

Jetstar Titans Coach John Cartwright today named Bailey (ribs), Zillman (hamstring), Champion (ankle) and White (tonsillitis) in a near full-strength 17-man squad to tackle the Warriors.

Bailey has not played for a month since suffering a rib injury against the Cowboys in Round 13 while Zillman, Champion and White were all unavailable for the club's last start loss to the Dragons in Wollongong.

Cartwright said there were still some doubts over the availability of Bailey, Zillman and Champion, with a final call on their fitness to be made later in the week.

State of Origin duo Nate Myles and Greg Bird have also been named in the hope the pair will be fit to back-up after tomorrow night’s Origin decider.

"We're coming off a bye so it's given us the chance to hopefully get a few back from injury,'' said Cartwright.

"We've got another session tomorrow (Wednesday) and then I suppose the main one will be Friday when we see how the Origin boys have pulled up.''

Cartwright said Bailey was still a 50-50 chance to make his return from a serious rib injury.
"He's got a few more hurdles to jump,'' said Cartwright.

"It was a pretty serious injury. He did a bit of contact today and it didn't feel too bad so we'll give him up until Thursday because we've got to wait on the Origin guys anyway.

"It's just the pain threshold, whether he can get through that pain and whether another week is going to make it any better or not.''

Many benefits from bye for Titans

Jetstar Gold Coast Titans coach John Cartwright believes the club?s second and final bye for 2012 came at the perfect time, with Origin III looming large over the Round 18 NRL fixtures.

Speaking during the week, Cartwright said it provided his side the opportunity to freshen up ahead of the final stretch of the the season.

?The bye came at a good time,? Cartwright said.

?With the grind of the season, a week off is fantastic for them. You just get a sense at training that they?re a little bit more alert, more sharp.

?It?s like anyone - you often complain about your work at times, but when you get away from it you realise how much you miss it. It was good coming in today full of energy.

?It?s hard for every side during this Origin period. You just have to look at the games on the weekend - while you don?t feel sorry for anyone you have to sympathise with the Cowboys and Broncos, who were really up against winning their games with the amount of players they had out.

?It just seems this period of the year, the focus goes to State of Origin and the club footy takes a bit of a back seat. But from our perspective we can?t let it do that.

?We?ve played pretty well through the Origin period, we?ve won a couple and lost a couple. If we can win this one and get all our troops back on deck with eight games to play, we?re not in such a bad position.?

Experienced prop Luke Bailey has been missing since Round 13 through injury, but there?s every chance he could return for this weekend?s clash with the Warriors.

?We?re hopeful. He?s down in Sydney getting a guard made up. They?re pretty confident if not this week, the following week. If he?s OK for this game, we?d be mad not to use him.

?It?s always very physical against the Warriors. We?d like to be as close to our best as we can, but that?s out of our hands.

?We won?t risk him either - he had a really bad injury, a very painful one as well, we?ll give him a bit of test later in the week.?

Titans thoughts with Mead family
Wednesday 4 July 2012 4:27 PM

The thoughts of the Jetstar Gold Coast Titans are with winger David Mead and his family following the death of his father overnight.
Stephen Mead, 63, passed away in Brisbane overnight after a two year battle with cancer. A funeral will be held in Papua New Guinea in the coming days.
A decision on whether Mead takes to the field for the club against the New Zealand Warriors at Skilled Park on Saturday night will be made later this week.
A moment?s silence will be held at the game in respect to Mr Mead.
Jetstar Titans Coach John Cartwright said the thoughts of the club were with David and his family.
?He?s had a really horrible last couple of weeks, he lost a cousin that was very close to him and now he?s lost his father so it?s been a really tough time,?? said Cartwright.
?He knows that the club, and the boys in particular, are behind him.??

Titans v Warriors preview

Nicholas Janzen NRL.com Thu, Jul 05, 2012 - 10:00 AM

Eight weeks ago, no-one would?ve expected this match to have any impact on the top eight. At the end of Round 9, the Titans had won just two games and, it seemed, were destined to hug the bottom of the table in 2012. A week earlier, the Warriors were going down a similar path ? last year?s grand-finalists were just three wins from their opening eight clashes.

Now entering Round 18, the two teams are riding warm-to-hot patches of form and surging up the competition ladder. In the past month and a half, the Titans are four wins from six matches, while the Warriors are improving and have recorded four from seven.

With the home side in 10th and the visitors in ninth, the result in this clash will have huge ramifications for both teams. A win keeps the victor in touch with the top eight? but a loss, with two competition points currently separating the finals-qualifying cut-off from the rest of the teams, could prove deadly.

There is a raft of changes to the Titans side that lost 8-6 to the Dragons in Wollongong, although coach John Cartwright will make his final decisions on the players later in the week.

In the backs, William Zillman (hamstring) and Beau Champion (ankle) have come into the side to replace Phil Graham and Steve Michaels respectively. In the forwards, veteran Luke Bailey (ribs) returns to the front row, shifting Origin forward Nate Myles to lock, and Luke O?Dwyer to the bench. Matt White (tonsillitis) has also been added to the bench. Ashley Harrison (broken toe) will not return for at least the next fortnight.

The Warriors have made just one forced change to the team that defeated the Cowboys in Auckland, with forward Micheal Luck once again succumbing to his troublesome left shoulder. Luck had already missed the first half of what is going to be his final season of NRL. Steve Rapira comes onto the bench to replace Luck, with Samoan rep and halfback/hooker Pita Godinet also named on a five-man interchange. Winger Omar Slaimankhel has retained his place in the line-up and for the first time in his career has been named in the run-on squad (he was a last-minute replacement in his previous NRL appearances).

Watch Out Titans: The Warriors are an NRL attacking superpower? when they want to be! The team?s ninth position on the ladder is belied by the fact they are the fourth-best attacking team in the competition ? they have already scored 63 tries this season, and in the process scored an average of almost 24 points per game. If they ?click? in this game, and begin to show some of the team play that saw them march to the 2011 grand final, John Cartwright should begin to feel worried.

Danger Sign: The Titans are struggling to negotiate opposition kicking games? and you can bet your last dollar the Warriors? scheming halves have already noticed. The Gold Coast have defused just 60 per cent of chip kicks (13th in the league), 43 per cent of cross-field kicks (14th in the league) and just 68 per cent of all kicks overall (14th in league). If the prospect of Kevin Locke, Bill Tupou and Konrad Hurrell running at them wasn?t enough, they?ll have even more ? in Maloney and Johnson?s kicking games ? to deal with this week.

Watch Out Warriors: The Warriors rely on a power game, particularly close to an opponent?s line. So far they?ve scored 34 tries from the 0-10m zone (fourth in the league), but when an opponent dominates field position, how will they cope? If the Titans, as expected, try to tire the Warriors? big forwards and hulking outside backs with an intelligent (and possibly early) long-kicking game and make the game an arm-wrestle for field position, the Warriors may need to turn to Plan B.

Danger Sign: On paper, this Titans team offers little in attack ? with just 55 line-breaks all season (only Parramatta have fewer) they could easily be seen by an attacking team like the Warriors as ?easy-beats?. But the visitors had better watch out ? on the back of some stronger efforts from their most experienced players, the Gold Coast have recently stretched the Dragons, smashed the Panthers, thumped the Cowboys, and upset the Knights and Bulldogs. This?ll be no easy two points for the visitors, especially as the Warriors have the worst tackling efficiency of any team in the comp (just 85.9 per cent) and concede an average of 22.8 points per game.

Jamal Idris v Konrad Hurrell: The earth will shake when these two giants cross paths down the same edge of the field. In recent weeks both the hirsute Idris and hulking Hurrell have been impressive. So far in 2012, Idris has proven a handful, breaking 35 tackles and averaging almost 80 metres per game. The former Bulldog has also four tries, broken the line six times and recorded three line-break assists. The Warriors centre has been even more damaging in his debut NRL season. The Tongan-born former Toyota Cup star is averaging 126 metres per game, has scored nine tries, broken 57 tackles and split the line nine times. Who gets the running ? and pulls out the game-changing defensive play ? in this match will give his side a huge advantage.

Where It Will Be Won: Two evenly matched forward packs (the Titans average 1375 metres per game, slightly more than the Warriors? 1319 metres) and equally explosive outside backs means it?s all up to the halves in this match. It?s veteran Scott Prince and rising star Aidan Sezer up against exciting pairing James Maloney and Shaun Johnson. No doubt the Warriors duo is the more settled, with the Titans shuffling five-eighths throughout the 2012 season and Prince missing several games through injury. Who gets the decision here? The Warriors? No.6 and No.7 definitely have the upper hand with 26 try assists between them (the Titans have 18) as well as 19 line-breaks (the Titans have just seven). If the Titans? halves provide good service and challenge the line, and the Gold Coast defence doesn?t over-read the Warriors halves, the home side are still a chance. A lot will rest on Prince?s attacking game. The No.7 is the linchpin for the Titans? and he?s poised to become just the fourth man in NRL history (behind Lockyer, Orford and Kimmorley) to crack 200 try assists. He has 198 in his career to date, and interestingly has scored 17 tries from just 18 appearances against the Warriors.

The History: Played 11 ? Gold Coast 6, Warriors 5. At Skilled Park, the Titans have a significant advantage, with four wins from five starts. The Gold Coast, however, have not won against the Warriors since 2010

Last Time They Met: It was a one-sided contest across the Tasman back in Round 4, with last year?s grand-finalists 26-6 winners.

The Warriors powered to a 14-nil half-time lead on the back of a 644 metres to 517 metres first half, which the home side also dominated three line-breaks to one.

Warriors halves James Maloney and Shaun Johnson were particularly tough for the Titans to handle; Roosters-bound Maloney broke the line twice and busted seven tackles, while No.7 Johnson ran for 129 metres, recording two line-breaks, five tackle-breaks, one try assist and two tries.

No doubt the Titans? preparations entering the match were marred by revelations the club was drowning in debt and, potentially, ready to fold.

Match Officials: Referees ? Matt Cecchin and Phil Haines; Sideline Officials ? Paul Holland and Michael Wise; Video Referee ? Rod Lawrence.

The Way We See It: Expect a bottler ? two teams on the rise desperate for the two points to remain within striking distance of the top-eight finals cut-off. The Origin impact, though, with Titans forwards Greg Bird and Nate Myles in the final match, sways our prediction. Without them, or with both playing below full fitness, the visitors should prevail. The Warriors by four points.

Televised: Fox Sports 2 ? Live 7.30pm.

Battered Greg Bird unlikely to face Warriors
CHRIS BARCLAY | 05/07/2012

The New Zealand Warriors must combat State of Origin's man of the series but another cornerstone of the Gold Coast Titans forward pack is destined to miss Saturday's NRL clash at Skilled Park - and potentially the rest of the season.

While star second rower Nate Myles' recovery from last night's cliff hanger at Suncorp Stadium revolves around the extent of his celebrating Queensland's seventh successive series win, glum NSW adversary Greg Bird has practically ruled himself out of backing up against the Warriors.

Bird self-diagnosed a torn pectoral muscle when he emerged from the dressing room and if scans confirm his medical opinion the rugged back rower could be sidelined for the remainder of the Titans campaign, denting their hopes of making the play-offs.

He also sustained an ugly facial wound - his right eye was swollen and practically shut, another body blow likely to rule him out of the 18th round match with the New Zealanders.

Bird was punched in the head by Brent Tate during the fiery opening stages of the decider but it was Petero Civoniceva's knee that inflicted the damage.

Tate today entered an early guilty plea to a grade one striking charge and escaped suspension due to his previous disciplinary record.

A Titans spokesman said Bird's status will be confirmed tomorrow, his absence would be another headache for head coach John Cartwright who has already lost Maroons back rower Ashley Harrison to a toe injury suffered in the second instalment of a closely fought interstate series.

Veteran prop Luke Bailey's comeback from a long-term rib injury is also doubtful with the former Kangaroos and NSW representative needing to pass a fitness test tomorrow.

Bird was in a sorry state after the Blues agonising 21-20 loss, his physical state mirrored his mental well-being.

"It's dejecting. We fought hard and fought back but it wasn't to be. It's so disappointing," he said as shattered teammates contemplated another agonising defeat.

Gold Coast Titans v New Zealand Warriors July 5, 2012 - 7:03PM

Skilled Park, Gold Coast, Saturday 7.30pm (AEST)
Last meeting: Round 4 2012 - Warriors 26 bt Titans 6 at Mt Smart Stadium
Head-to-head: Titans 6 Warriors 5
Referees: Matt Cecchin/Phil Haines
TV: Live, FoxSports 2
TAB Sportsbet: Titans $2.40 Warriors $1.60
FootyTab: Titans +4.5

Greg Prichard writes: After winning three in a row to stay alive in the finals race, the Titans have lost two of their last three and need to get going again now. They are one spot behind the ninth-placed Warriors, who have won two of their last three. The Titans had regularly beaten the Warriors until their last three clashes, which were all won by the Warriors - including one at this venue.

AAP writes: The chance of a top eight berth for both sides could ride on the outcome of this game. The 10th-placed Gold Coast - who’ve won four from their last six - will be banking on a win with the return of Luke Bailey, William Zillman, Beau Champion and Matt White, while also sweating on the fitness of Origin stars Nate Myles and Greg Bird. The Warriors, although favourites, aren’t without their own injury concerns. They’ll be missing Manu Vatuvei, flying fullback Glen Fisiiahi and his usual replacement Kevin Locke.

The Warriors came good this time last season, winning seven of their last nine regular season games to eventually make the grand final. They’ll be eyeing off a similar run starting Saturday.

TITANS: William Zillman, Kevin Gordon, Jamal Idris, Beau Champion, David Mead, Aidan Sezer, Scott Prince, Luke Bailey, Matt Srama, Luke Douglas, Greg Bird, Mark Minichiello, Nate Myles. Interchange: Matt White, Brenton Lawrence, Ben Ridge, Luke O'Dwyer

Bailey not feeling pressure to play

Jetstar Gold Coast Titans prop Luke Bailey says his faith in the club?s forward depth has eased the pressure on him to make a return from injury against the Warriors on Saturday night.

Bailey is considered a 50-50 chance to make his comeback from a painful rib injury against the Warriors, but the experienced prop said he would not risk playing if his injury could benefit from an extra week off and he was not 100 per cent.

?I?m going to try my best to play this weekend but if not I won?t be disappointed because this time last year I would have had to play, but we?ve got a bit more depth and have got some quality front rowers there so it?s made my injury and my restless nights a bit easier,?? said Bailey.

?If need be, I?ll wait to the following week but I?m going to try my best to play this week.

?If it?s going to cause any more damage than I probably won?t play.??

With the Warriors boasting a strong contingent of ex-pat supporters living on the Gold Coast, the Titans are expecting plenty of support for the visitors on Saturday night.

Bailey said it would be up to the home crowd to turn out in force combined with the Titans? action on the field to silence the vocal support for the Warriors.

?I think it?s that southern grandstand at Skilled Park that is normally full with Kiwi supporters,?? said Bailey of previous home games against the Warriors.

?Hopefully our crowd can get out there and we?re calling on all our fans to get out there and try and make them quiet and we?ll do our job out on the field.??

PRINCE: Time to kick the door down
Scott Prince | 12:01am July 6, 2012

OUR foot is in the door, it is up to us to kick it open.

Indifferent form at the start of this season has left the Titans with an interesting equation. There are nine games to go and we are in 10th place.

I may not have been the dux at primary school in Mt Isa, but even my knowledge of maths tells me our win-loss ratio has to improve as we gallop towards the home straight in this year's race to the final eight.

The 'let's not look too far ahead and just take one game at a time' line has now expired. That luxury was lost amid our ordinary form in the first half of the season.

A part of every NRL player's mantra is not to get ahead of yourself, to just focus on the next game. Forget what is We are now at Round 18 of a 26-round season, however.

Sure, we have to keep our minds on the here and now, keep focussed on the next opponent, but we also know that we now need more wins than losses.

That's why in this equation our games at Skilled Park take on a greater significance.

These are the games where as a club, we start on the higher ground. These are the games on our patch. There's no travel, we have the crowd behind us. So we start each of these games with an advantage. It is up to us to turn that advantage into points.

Our remaining draw is: v Warriors (home), Raiders (away), Broncos (h), Roosters (a), Rabbitohs (h), Storm (a), Eels (h), Panthers (a), Sea Eagles (h).

So, for me, the five home games are key to our finals aspirations.

There is no easy win in the NRL these days and all our home opponents will be tough - Warriors, Broncos, Rabbitohs, Eels and Sea Eagles.

But we also know we have the roster that, on our day, can account for any team. Our recent form has shown that.

Within the playing group the season started with expectation. We knew what we were capable of, but it took a while to click.

Now that expectation has transformed to confidence. Winning does that.

We may have some injuries, but that is always part of what rugby league is all about.

We know we have a hurdle to overcome to make it to the finals, but we also know we can do it.

Our destiny is in our hands.

I was rapt to see Nate Myles named as the Player of the Series for Origin 2012.

He is one of the reasons I am confident about our football team. Nate is the guy you want beside you when the going gets tough.

He just continually puts his hand up for work and no matter how hard he gets hit he will always get to his feet and look the defender in the eyes as if to say 'is that all you've got'.

Birdy also had a great series, although he looked a bit busted after what was a real tough game.

Mead to be given every chance to play
Travis Meyn | 12:01am July 5, 2012

DEVASTATED Titans flyer David Mead will be given every opportunity to play against the Warriors on Saturday as he comes to terms with the death of his father.

Stephen Mead died on Tuesday following a two-year battle with cancer. His funeral will be held in Papua New Guinea in the coming days.

It is the second family tragedy Mead has had to deal with in recent weeks after a cousin of his died in PNG in the lead-up to the Titans-Panthers match recently.

Mead flew to PNG for the funeral made it back in time to star against the Panthers and Titans football manager Scott Clark said the club had left the decision to play up to the 23-year-old.

"We'll support him 100 per cent and leave that decision with David as to whether he wants to play," he said.

"We haven't been in contact with him much yet so we can let him get through this tough time.

"We'll be fully supportive of whatever decision David wants to make."

Mead was born in PNG and known as David Moore before moving to Australia as a 12-year-old to live with his aunty and uncle, Kila and Stephen Mead, in Lismore.

He adopted their family name in 2009 and Clark said the winger's maturity meant he would make the right decision heading into the weekend.

"It's been a tough time for him and we've been behind him the whole way," he said.

"He's shown great character through it all and has continued to play great football. That's testament to the guy he is.

"He'll know by Friday if he's available. He's a mature fellow and he'll make the decision in time for the team to adjust."

Titans coach John Cartwright said the players were devastated for Mead's loss.

"He's had a really horrible last couple of weeks. He lost a cousin that was very close to him and now he's lost his father so it's been a really tough time," he said.

"He knows that the club, and the boys in particular, are behind him."

If Mead is unavailable, Steve Michaels will be drafted on to the right wing to partner returning centre Beau Champion.

i believe bird does not get the credit he deserves, i believe he is one of the most underrated players in the game. To be honest he would be one of the first people id pick if i was building a team. All it takes is to have a look at the 3 origin games this year , the boy is made for them. His grit and determination is undoubtable and i think he will be a HUGE loss this weekend if he doesn't play.
i personally reckon nsw wouldn't of even got close this series if he wasn't there.

I'm a bit of a fan of Mannering but if he plays in the centers against us we should do them ... he slaughtered at least three tries last weekend by not passing or passing too late. Hurrell on Prince ... not pretty either.

Oh you're so right dude, he was absolutely awful especially when he has Hurrell outside him and didn't give him the ball ONCE!!! Awful stuff, thought he was smarter than that.

On another note I haven't been on here in a while, just wanted to wish you guys luck and say may the best team win, its unfortunate you guys have a lot of your best players out through injury but knowing the Warriors as well as I do it may mean they take your boys lightly which could be a disaster. Entertainment spectacular for Warriors clash

A booming opera tenor, a high energy youth dance crew and some of the Gold Coast?s ?freshest? barbers will combine to form part of the Jetstar Gold Coast Titans? unique entertainment spectacular for Saturday night?s clash against the Warriors at Skilled Park.

The Jetstar Titans are offering more than just a memorable clash between two top-8 aspirants when they play the Warriors, with an array of exciting activities planned for the whole family.

Gold Coast based opera tenor and Titans supporter David De Vito will be back to fill the stadium with the sounds of 'Nessum Dorma' before kick-off as the Titans and Warriors take to the field. The Australia's Got Talent finalist was a fan favourite when he performed at the Titans vs Storm game at Skilled Park last season and returns to lift the fans before this crucial match-up against the Warriors.

Continuing the on-field excitement, there will be a special half-time performance by the ?Li'l Titans Dance Crew?, who will be wearing Titans Legion T-shirts to keep the crowd hyped before the second half.

The dance crew from Shadow Sports Management and Entertainment were founded by former Queensland rugby player Charlie Fetoai and is made up of youngsters from the Logan area ranging in age from 8-18 who have been performing together for about six months.

Fetoai says the kids, who have performed at Queensland Reds matches in the past, have a passion for dance and bring a great mix of musicality, a high energy presence, eye-popping tricks and innovative choreography that will get fans to their feet.

Prior to the on-field entertainment commencing, the Skilled Park precinct will be a hub of activity before kick-off with some of the Gold Coast's 'freshest' barbers from Notorious Cuts showcasing some amazing hair art and patterned designs.

Southport-based Notorious Cuts are offering Titans fans free haircuts by one of their experienced team of barbers before the game.

The activities are on top of the club?s extensive list of regular entertainment including Titans TV, performances by the Titanettes, Funballz Challenge, fairy floss, jumping castles, face painting and Investorfirst mini league.

Since the addition of Sezer i dont think scoring tries hasnt been as difficult as it was during the beginning of this season. As for what Princey said scoring tries wont be a problem, i second that opinion because Warriors defence arent strong. We can target them their but Warriors love scoring tries so defence needs to be good to take the win and have a chance at the top 8.

This performance just shows that in fact the team has learned absolutely nothing ... this is largely the team from last year and playing just like it ... absolutely totally disappointing ... completion rate 50% ... second half structure when we still had a chance nil.

If you add to that a crowd which seemed primarily visitors then our club is in a shocking position.

My god there we had some shocking players on display tonight. Barely QLD cup material the blokes on my list.

Has anyone worked out yet what it is that Zillman actually does in the last 3/4 years he has played for us? We have the worst fullback in the competition. Pathetic effort at the end, along with his terrible inside ball running all night. Slater he is most definitely not.

Sezer also had his worst game for us so far by a comfortable margin. The panic football we were playing in the second half was mind boggling. Minichiello had an absolute shocker as well.

For tonight Henderson and Lawrence were both outstandingly diabolical but what really pisses me off was the lack of composure from THE SPINE when we still could have competed. The forwards are just cattle as we all know. Our panic-stricken bleatings were like a pack of goats ... it must be contagious ... Hendersonitis or maybe Goat Flu.

First half completion rate of 69% was bad enough, but 40% in the second half is nowhere near close enough to being NRL standard. As a paying fan/member I would like a refund for the lack of entertainment I have seen tonight and for most of the season and last season for that matter. Yes Idris got slayed by Hurrell (won't be the last centre that does) and Lawrence was woeful but Henderson was serviceable and up until he missed Johnson when he scored his try he was going well (won't be the last forward Johnson gets by either). This was one that definitely got away and we through it away with lousy ball control and some soft defence. Sezer was going great in attack but missed a few tackles and I thought mead and Gordon were excellent as was Champion until he vanished. The best for us tonight in the forwards was Ryan James who was outstanding in defence and needs more opportunity in attack. Mini was good in the first half but missed tackles in the second. You always suspect O'Dwyer will give away silly penalties and he didn't disappoint. Whilst Idris was poor in defence I thought he ran straighter tonight and put the Warriors on the back foot. I think we under use him in attack, especially of we get a decent play the ball to get a roll on.

Another opportunity lost to make a dent in this years competition. Really need to win 7 out of 8 now with 4 difficult assignments amongst that lot. The Raiders await, and let's hope that we get at least a couple of our big guns back to add the starch and discipline that were missing tonight. So gutted.

My Dad and I talked about wether or not we will bother with 2013 memberships on the way home from the game tonight. We will renew but only because we love footy so much - it is impossible to love the sh!t that the Titans serve up...

I think the saying that forwards win footy games is the biggest myth in all of Rugby League. Forwards put teams in a position to win games but it is up to the skill positions to capitalise on the platform that the forwards create. It is for this reason that I think we lose tonight even with all of our big guns in. Myles, Bird, Harro, Bull would have laid a great platform based on yardage and solid defence but our pathetic attack would have failed to put the game away in exactly the same way they did against Wests, Canberra, St George etc.

We are a stale attacking team coached by a stale and out of touch coach.

Don't get me started on Idris - the fat whale was beyond pathetic tonight. How good did Mead look early on playing outside a centre who knows what he is doing?? (Too bad he is made of glass...) Idris does nothing for Kevvie.

Under Carty our team is going nowhere. We are just going to have a forum full of disappointed people.

I haven't read the rest of this thread so excuse me if this is repeated but how about the crowd?? It was a dead set 'blackout' at the Southern end with Warriors jersey's EVERYWHERE!! Well done to them, they have an exciting team who plays attractive footy.

No team in the comp can lose 4 representative Forwards & expect to compete at this level....look at the Storm playing without Smith tonight...

Also think the Hendo bashing isn't really warranted , he only missed 2 tackles & sure 1 lead to a try but he was responsible for making 40 tackles tonight which was a huge effort from him.

I went to the match & thought we would get beat so I'm not shocked by the result but the ball handling in the 2nd half was rubbish :boo:

Luke Douglas was fantastic tonight with a massive 46 tackles but for me I think James making 43 very solid tackles ,not including the shot on Mini :surprise: , was our best on field & may have just played himself back into the top 17, he was great & will only get better in the upcoming weeks

I think the social media allows for loose interpretations although the English language does lose a lot through the denigration of its structure ... remind you of something?

Solid but hardly superstars like Croker and Ferguson will eat anything we put in front of them and I repeat they are hardly top shelf. Champion looks like he's gone for the season and where does that leave us?

We are in so deep that it looks like those clubs that have toughed it out but stuck at their guns will pass us while we mark time. Panthers, Eels, Knights, Roosters and even the damn Raiders all have momentum while we have ... excuses.

I am totally with Karnage in that our coach is on another planet. I am also with all those who will renew their memberships but I have every intention of flying from China for the AGM to voice my opinion ... I suppose there would have to be a public AGM first though wouldn't there? and therein lies the root of the problem.

The one positive I took out of this game was the Prince to Sezer to whoever on the right side in attack when they were on the front foot. They really sent the ball across the field nicely and the finishing was superb.

The Mead try was one of his best finishes ever.

Disappointing to say the least. Plenty of excuses but no discipline and no development in this squad, no hope of the finals. If the maroons hadn't won on Wednesday I would be pretty down this morning. Just think next years big thing is another big undisciplined player in Taylor. Might have to go back to following the Broncos which I ditched when the Titans formed.

Few things, The negatives. I thought bj was shocking tonight and that hurts me to say! Henderson and odweyer just aren't up to Nrl standard plain and simple. Idris is just overweight if he lost 15 kgs he'd be lethal outside. Positives, I thought Luke Douglas and Ryan James where standouts they both made 40 plus tackles against the biggest side in the comp. hopefully James retains his spot in the 17. And as always david mean that kid is a champion!

DavidBouveng
08-07-12, 07:14 PM
yeah there a **** tonne of negatives last night.

the guys who can stand tall are Meady, Dougie and Big Ryan James, who stopped trying to fight everyone and just cleaned up the ruck and made a heap of tackles. I also thought Ridge looked like a real first grader, not a kid on the cusp.

I thought we looked real good early through Prince,Sezer and Champion, and it was clearly a tactic to attack the warriors over-compressed defensive system, but when we starting dropping ball, we went away from a tacticthat was darn easy to implement when you can throw a long ball like prince and sezer and have finishers like champion and mead.

On Idris, he was woeful at times, but i also think he looked the most committed and interested as he has all year. he was getting back quickly to have a hit up often and getting involved. it wont matter much till he gets 'unfat' though.

Zillman missed a catch at the end for a try that most NRL players should swallow let alone a fullback...

one more on meady...is there anyone better 10 out from the line with only a metre or 2 width to work with? he is special, and similar to prestos farewell last year, some players should be ashamed of the effort they put in for him last night.

You are spot on with the first try - Sezar looked clueless so it wasn't his fault but I still think he should have been able to match motors with Hurrel and tackle him before the line.

You asked so here goes. I am happy to be put straight if anybody disagrees with this:

1. His kick chase is terribly poor. We never present a straight line on the chase on his edge because he does not push up in a straight line with the other outside backs / forwards.

2. He does not run onto the ball. He gets the ball, he ambles up to the line and then tries to swat defenders away ala Greg Inglis. He should be running hard onto the ball and making the defenders work to bring him down. If Carty wants to see how that is done he can show him tape of a player like Steve Matai or even Colin Best, centres who hit the ball up with purpose.

3. We had them shot to bits at one stage in the second half. We were tackled about 2m out and had the warriors shot to bits on the left with Idris and Kevvie one on one with the warriors centre/wing. Idris positioned himself terribly to receive the ball and ended up hitting the ball up into the defenders who were at marker and lost the ball in the collision. If he had any football brain at all he would have positioned himself wide of the ruck and steamrolled the opposition centre one on one.

4. He does not provide a target for wide kicks in attack, but I do concede this could be the fault of our halves who played particularly direction-less football last night.

When Champion is in the team and fit our side is a different prospect. He runs hard and provides space for his elite outside man, making every one in the entire backline look good in the process. Idris provides NOTHING. He creates NOTHING.

Yeah that as a New Zealander was pretty embarrassing to be honest. No respect what so ever, me and my friends watching the game at home didn't think much of it.

Our defense was awful and your guys completion rate was diabolical too and I guess that along with Hurrell and Maloney's brilliance got us the win. You guys were up against it with a lot of guys out though. Our team had a few guys out like Manu, Rapira and Luck but nothing like you guys with your origin guns missing.

Don't be too hard on Idris with his effort V Hurrell either, I haven't seen many people able to contain him this year, if you guys had seen him in the u20s comp last year you would have probably got a good idea that he was always going to go alright this season when he made the step up
