A NECK injury threatens to end the career of Melbourne Storm prop Dennis Scott.

Scott, 29, has been diagnosed with a bulging disc in his neck and his playing future is uncertain.

The powerful former Brisbane and Bulldogs forward who played 19 matches for Storm in 2005 said he was doing everything he could to remain positive as specialists assess the severity of the problem.

"A week before Christmas I got pins and needles down my left arm," Scott said yesterday.

"I still can't feel two or three fingers because it is pinching on a nerve.

"At the moment we are just trying to get it to settle down. I have had a cortisone injection between the vertebrae and since then it seems to be improving each day.

"It is all a bit scary."

Scott and wife Mia welcomed their first child, daughter Matilda, in June last year and Scott said he would not risk playing again if there was a chance of permanent damage.

"At the moment I am just trying to cross each bridge as I come to it and remain positive," Scott said.

"I am still trying to do a little bit of fitness work and I have my fingers crossed that come the start of the season I won't be that far away."

I hope this all turns out for the best for Scott who is a really developing into a fine front rower running around with the Storm. Depth wise for Bellamy, this is a huge concern heading into the 2006 season.

I wish Dennis all the best in sorting this out and returning to the paddoct at 100% for the upcoming NRL season.

Not good news at all for both Scott & the Storm, i hope for both his sake & the Storm's he can overcome the problem.

I hope for the Storm sake that he gets match fit. Doctors have been able to solve the problem that Brent Tate had with his neck so hopefully Dennis Scott can obtain similar outcomes.
