EASTS TIGERS v TWEED HEADS
Saturday, July 23 ? 2pm* Live on ABC 1 - Langlands Park

LAST time these two sides met, it was only a final-minute try from Tweed?s Shannon Walker that proved the difference. Scores were locked at 12-12 when Walker showed his skills to tip the game in the Seagulls? favour. Since then the fortunes of the two sides have been quite different, with the Seagulls yet to be defeated and Easts struggling to find their feet in the competition. However, this week?s TV game still promises to provide entertainment with players on both sides capable of eye-catching performances. Easts will retain the same squad that went down to the Norths Devils last weekend, with former Tweed Heads coach Troy McCarthy continuing to keep the faith in his first year with the Langlands Park club. The Tigers were outscored 24-14 by the Devils, with their attack proving to be an issue this year. Easts have the third worst attacking record of any team in the competition having scored 288. Conversely, ladder leaders Tweed are the best attacking side, with 468 points under their belt. Tweed Heads will also field an unchanged side from the one that enjoyed their biggest win of the season, a 48-8 result over the Wynnum Manly Seagulls. Last week saw the return of try-scoring whiz Nathanael Barnes, who got straight back in the habit with a double, as well as the debut of Nathan Mossman who came into the side for the suspended Kayne Lawton. Mossman joined the club earlier this year after moving up from Canberra and did a good job supporting Tweed veteran Tim Maccan in the hooking role.

SPEED, power and guile ? this Tweed Heads team has it all.

The Seagulls yesterday survived a scare from the Easts Tigers to extend their unbeaten run in the 2011 Intrust Super Cup season.

The 32-14 win over the Tigers at Langlands Park was the Tweed?s 16th of a season that is on track to break all sorts of records.

With just five rounds remaining, the Seagulls are a genuine chance of becoming the first Queensland Cup team to go through a regular season undefeated.

Their biggest threat will come in the final three weeks, with matches against top four sides the Ipswich Jets, Redcliffe Dolphins and Northern Pride.

But going on yesterday?s clinical second-half performance, the Tweed will give it one big shake.

Like all good sides, the Seagulls lifted the tempo at the right time to put the plucky Tigers away.

Easts led 14-12 at half-time but they couldn?t stay with the Seagulls in the second period as the visitors tore through the middle with their mobile forwards who were able to get regular off-loads away under pressure.

Halves Brad Davis and Matt King had plenty of quality ball and they were only too happy to fire it out to the quicker men who did the bulk of the scoring.

Wingers Nat Barnes and Tom Merritt completed doubles, while Residents centre James Wood showed his class with an early second half try that got the Seagulls on the front foot.

Tweed?s ability to swing the ball from one side of the field to the other continually caused trouble for the Tigers.

However, the Tigers fired plenty of shots of their own early in the round 17 contest and were rewarded with the opening try of the match through Kevin Stephensen who combined wonderfully with halfback Isaac Kaufmann.

Tweed hit back immediately with two quick fire tries, although replays suggested that Merrit may have been lucky to get the first of his two touch downs as King had knocked the ball forward in the lead up.

Easts didn?t let the setback derail their upset bid though and were the next to score through Kaufmann.

Dane Chisholm converted the try to lock proceedings up at 12-12 and the Storm contracted utility then kicked a penalty goal to give the Tigers a two point buffer at the break.
