Flying winger Luke MacDougall will skipper a South Sydney's squad at this month's Orara Valley Axemen Sevens Tournament, a two-day event near Coffs Harbour hosted by Hollywood star Russell Crowe.

MacDougall was unveiled as skipper of a 15-man Souths squad that will rub shoulders with nine international teams, a Barbarians outfit of rugby league greats and new NRL team the Gold Coast Titans.

Although not entering the NRL until 2007, the Titans will make their debut at the January 28-29 tournament with a team packed full of the Gold Coast's elite academy players.

The Titans team will be made up of young contracted players hailing from northern NSW, the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

The Barbarians team - which will play exhibition games along with a St George Old Boys and North Sydney Old Boys - will boast the likes of Brad Fittler, Luke Ricketson, Rod Wishart, Gorden Tallis, Mark Carroll and Paul McGregor.

The sevens tournament will also feature defending champions Lebanon, Malta, Australian Maoris, Samoa, Fiji, Japan, Cook Islands, NZ Maoris, USA and the Orara Valley Axemen.

The sevens tournament is part of Orara Valley Axemen Big Week of League from January 26.

The program incorporates the sevens tournament, a coaching clinic, Men of League golf day and dinner, exhibition sevens matches and senior internationals between Japan and the USA and Fiji Bati and New Zealand Maori.

The International Rugby League Board has officially sanctioned the Fiji Bati-New Zealand Maori fixture that kicks off the weekend as a full international.

The Men of League project supports former players, officials and referees who have fallen on hard times.

Joven Clarke will be one to keep an eye one and I have to laugh, 'Mad Pup' as a skipper  It makes sense as he has the most first grade experience though the younger MacDougall would be one of the last players I would nominate as a budding captain.

Good luck to Souths!
